What does DSP stand for when characters are taking actions that only the GM should know about? (I'm still reading the Valcia game and enjoying it – I liked the part where Thaegrin and Anga got jumped in the street and they made Anga invisible—and bonus points for the Firefly reference!)
Update: Dur, I'm an idiot. Darksmokepuncher (DSP) is the DM in that game. I've been using the pictures and not looking at names; completely forgot the DM's short name. I thought "DSP" was shorthand for something about "DM/GM's eyes only".

@SigbiasSilva: Tell you what. If you like, you can trade Irori's Healing domain for Community, or Knowledge for Artifice (but you cannot trade both). You must pick one domain that is Irori's. The Knowledge domain cannot be traded for Community (I won't allow Healing and Community to be your domains, too OP), nor can Healing be traded for Artifice. You're still free to pick two of Irori's domains, I just wanted to give you options (I'll also expect roleplay to reflect which domains you choose).
Ooo, this is great thanks, I appreciate the flexibility very much!
I've decided I will be going for Community and Knowledge. They're definitely the most suited for Gorim from a roleplay standpoint, I believe.
I'm super excited to start playing. I really hope it indeed comes together on Tuesday!

Ok, I'm trying to figure out how these attacks work. If Nme'an attacks with his Longsword which my character sheet list as: (Longsword +3 (1d8 +2/ 19-20x2, S)). How does one format the attack and damage rolls? Mainly I don't really know what the + 3 is for... or where it's coming from.
Is the +3 included in the attack roll like so (along with a first level Paladin's +1 attack bonus) 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 1 = 16? Or am I totally confused?
Assuming a hit, like on a Goblin Dog with an AC of 13 what would the damage roll look like?
Longsword: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 perhaps?
Hmm... I figure I'm doing this all wrong. Help! :p

Mot Casns |

Did you get your char sheet pre-formated by Netherfire? Him and his crazy short hand! :P
It looks like that +3 is your STR modifier (a +2) and your BAB (+1) combined; and yes it applies to your ATK rolls.
The way you formatted your rolls looks pretty good. Unfortunately because your BAB is already added to your ATK bonus, you won't get +3 +1 off the bat. You'd just get the +3 (which is your STR modifier: +2 added to your BAB: +1).
Now Netherfire might request a particular format method for ATK/DMG rolls, but a safe bet would look something like this:
Longsword ATK 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
DMG 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
I like the above formatting because to me it keeps everything clean and easily understood. But whatever floats your (or Netherfires) boat.
If you'd like to see an alternate formatting method for your char sheet check out how I did it for Mot. It might not be clearer (you can ignore all the PA stuff), but it helps me keep things straight.

Ah ha! That would do it. Now for a bit of target practice! Nme'an vs the Goblin Dog trio!
Initiative:
Nme'an (19 AC, 12hp): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Goblin Dog1 (13AC, 9hp): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Goblin Dog2 (13AC, 9hp): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Goblin Dog3 (13AC, 9hp): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Average: 11
Nme'an Longsword ATK (19 AC, 12hp): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 1 = 23 Hit! (Critical?!)
Longsword DMG: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 (Oops... I don't understand how to do critical damage yet! Let's just assume it killed one of the Goblin dogs and move on! :(
Goblin Dog2 (13AC, 9hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Miss!
Goblin Dog3 (13AC, 9hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Miss!
Nme'an Longsword ATK (19 AC, 12hp): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15 Hit!
Longsword DMG: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Goblin Dog2 drops to 5hp.
Goblin Dog2 (13AC, 5hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Miss!
Goblin Dog3 (13AC, 9hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Miss!
Nme'an Longsword ATK (19 AC, 12hp): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4 Miss!
Goblin Dog2 (13AC, 5hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Hit!
Goblin Dog2 Bite DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 + critical damage again. Let's ignore it for Nme'an's sake. :p
Goblin Dog3 (13AC, 9hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Miss!
Nme'an Longsword ATK (19 AC, 6hp): 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 = 19 Hit!
Longsword DMG: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 GoblinDog2 dies.
Goblin Dog3 (13AC, 9hp) ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Hit!
Goblin Dog3 Bite DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Nme'an dies...
Oops...

Chewbaccawakka |

Haha, that's it more or less.
Critical hits work like this:
If you roll a natural 20 with your attack roll you threaten a critical hit. You then roll another attack roll. If this second roll beats your foes AC then that confirms the critical hit.
If you confirm a critical hit, you get to double your attack damage on that strike. So a damage roll of, say 5, would be doubled on a critical to 10 damage.
Now the above is super simplified, but the core of the rules are there. As we play and questions arise, I'm sure Netherfire would be happy to elaborate.

Just finished rewriting Nme'an's backstory. Slimmed it down a bit <edit>a tiny bit!</edit> and almost entirely worked around my lack of geographical knowledge.
<edit>Ha! I titled this rewrite as "Background short" and that's technically correct. I shaved off a whole 21 words... :p</edit>
When do we get to share these anyway?

LeviWasTaken |

Cogito ergo sum?
Descartes had it backwards actually. It's "I exist, therefore I think."
Okay, I'm going to slowly process everything I've missed. Still a lot of moving related stuff to do, the kind of which destroys your brain and energy usually.
Also, I was only half-joking about being Beorn's cat. I could really get into playing an animal, I think.
Also No. 2, this site sells books with my art in it. It feels weird.

Chewbaccawakka |

@Raga: Usually you just plug your background stuff into you char profile. If you'd like, you can post it here for us to read. Or if you think you can work it into the game proper, feel free!
@Gwath: Take your time reading up and getting comfortable with the boards. As for playing "Shank/Shark the Cat." That's up to Netherfire and Beorn both. Though you should know cats cannot speak. So the char wouldn't have much to do outside of combat...

Ragashingo |

Aww. I kinda hoped we'd get to have a formal unveiling / show and tell. :(
Anyway, Nme'an's full backstory will have to wait on a key piece of information, but here is his description:
Nme’an stands a good head taller than most Humans, and is easily recognized by his odd combination of pointed ears, dark blond hair, and ever so slightly green tinted skin, all granted to him by his mixed heritage, such as it is. Though slightly slimmer than a traditional Human knight, he still strikes an imposing figure when full armed, armored, and shielded. Common knowledge says that Nme’an has a grim outlook on life, but this is not especially true. Admittedly, he does not refrain from relating how the world, in his experience, can be quite harsh, but he always makes it a point to conclude with a reminder that the world also contains forgiveness and light, if one only has the perseverance to find it. Although he is not particularly chatty, and is occasionally overly self reliant, Nme'an does eventually open up to those few who he comes to regard as his friends.

Hah, Gwaith playing as Shark could be amusing. I'm certainly game to try it out if Nether is, but it would definitely be a limited experience for you, Levi. Might also be a good way to play if you have limited time, just afraid that the limitations might get old pretty quickly.
Then again, you would bunk with the only lady in the party, so there's that… ;-)

Gorim Coppervein |

Sup all,
I'm busy preparing a set of spells for the first in-game day for once we begin (and Gorim has prayed/meditated for them). I'm just not 100% on whether I've done this right, and this colossal headache of mine isn't helping haha.
This table says I'm allowed 3 0/Orisons, and then 1+1 1st lvl spells, the +1 being from a Domain of mine (either Community or Knowledge).
So I have chosen:
Orisons:
Detect Magic
Stabilize
Light
1st Level Spells:
Protection from Evil
Comprehend Language (Knowledge Domain)
I believe this is all in order so far? I hope it is!
Then because of my WIS is 18 I get some Bonus Spells per day from this table here.
I'm not sure if I'm correct here though? Can you still cast the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th level spells as a 1st level Cleric?

Ragashingo |

My 100% magically uninformed guess is the main cleric table limits you from doing anything above 1st level spells at Cleric level 1 and 2.

GM Netherfire |

@Gorim: A 1st level Cleric cannot cast 2nd, 3rd, and 4th level spells, but you do get a bonus 1st level spell for being SO WISE. Once the cleric class gives you access to the higher level spells, then your high Wisdom bonus spells apply. Other than that, you got it right.
@Gwath: Welcome! I'll be fine with you playing Beorae's tiger as long as you can commit to the once-every-other-day posting minimum. Just know, as previously mentioned, it may get old. Alternatively, you could create a character.
However, with seven PCs, I would split the group for 2 different adventures. One of 3 players, the other of 4, and I will be deciding who is grouped with who.
(edit: to avoid any confusion, if Gwath plays as Shark, I'll keep it as 1 group.)

GM Netherfire |

Sorry Raga, I was so close!
HERE is where we will begin gaming. I ask that you read my post in the Discussion thread first. There will be campaign information in the Campaign Info tab. Heh. Please do not post to Gameplay just yet.
