Any chance to get older promo cards?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Silver Crusade

So I apparently missed out on the first two promo cards, because I didn't subscribe to the game until I already owned the base set and character add-on. Is there any way for newer subscribers to get the older promo cards after the fact, without spending $20+ each to get them from eBay?

Check your PMs.

I was wondering this as well, the cards are going for rediculous prices on ebay.

What I ended up doing was to start my subscription with the character add-on deck, even though I already own it, which gets me the first two promo cards. I'm having them shipped with the Skinsaw deck, to save on shipping, and then I plan to sell my extra add-on deck on ebay. Still costing me some money, but not the ebay promo prices, and I'll recover some on the resale.

If promotional cards are available after-the-fact, they aren't very well "promoting" anything. I suppose they're probably "promotional" in that they encourage continuing subscriptions - a high-value customer activity for Paizo, I'm sure. If you can just land all the promos in one fell swoop by subscribing at the end of the year or they're available some other way, then the "promos" can't very well have the desired promotional effect.

The first two promos are only available with the subscription starting with the base or add-on set, as they came out at the same time. Otherwise you have to find them at a convention or a local store that sells the game. As those options don't work for me, I'm happy Piazo has this option. This has been the case since the beginning, as attested to on the subsciption boards.

I as well wish I had the first 2 promos. I started my subscription after release , and never was able to get them.. And can't afford to pay what they want on eBay for them.. :(

I very much want to subscribe too, and still might.. My game came with Poog tapped to the box (in a little bag), but I'll only be missing Fire Sneeze and it's quite disheartening they won't supply back ones.

Just now did subscribe, but I have little doubt of obtaining a Fire Sneeze.. at least that'll be the only one they ever make I'll miss out on though.

I wish they would offer the ones I missed to buy .. Sux not havering them. We love the game.

In the UK, I (a retailer) only got given Poog by the distributor, no Fire Sneezes were anywhere to be seen!

I had the same experience have Poog from UK but no Fire Sneeze.

I don't think it was ever offered to us from the distributor, I never saw it on the stock list (the Poog promo was listed, and shipped with our base game pre-orders).

Fire Sneeze is their convention promo card for the year.

If anyone has one or both of those promos I'd be happy to throw some scratch your way for it.

As would I .... :)

I spoke to a CSR person from Paizo, and asked that since I had no idea they even had a subscription format to buy them if I could purchase Fire Sneeze from the company with my Pack2 deck, and all they said was "Well go to a convention to get Fire Sneeze then, if you don't want to pay so much for it on ebay"... the guy was really rude sounding about it.
If the game was not as fun as it is, that alone would made me really consider canceling my subscription. But since it is so fun, doing that wouldn't hurt anyone but me in the end.

Edit: Oh, he also told me to RE-purchase the game form their website to get Fire Sneeze with it (meaning they DO have it in stock still) then to sell the game. -_-

I have a spare Fire Sneeze available for trade if anyone is interested in trading for a Poog. My wife and I both got one from Gencon, but werent able to get the actual game, and hence, no Poog. :(

One reason they won't make them available through other means is due to a longstanding policy in relation to their subscriptions model.

When considering "when is the best time to subscribe?" the answer is always "now". Part of this is because they are strict about not offering previous subscriber benefits later. It does mean that if you are late to a subscription, there's no cheap way to replicate what you would have got. The upside is that when you receive something exclusive through the sub, you know it will remain exclusive. If you get a cheap deal, you can have confidence there's not going to be some other, super cheap deal coming along later.

Consider the specific case of the fire sneeze card - some of us overseas subscribers knew we were about to get hit hard by shipping, but signed up for the sub anyhow, since that was the only way to get the fire sneeze card for those of us unable to get to a convention. If it now turns out there's going to be another way - there's a number of subscribers who may feel hard done by (who could be sourcing the game locally, saving a lot of shipping, and then grabbing the promos via another route).

As a latecomer to paizo's subscriptions, I understand the annoyance in having to spend a fortune to go back and replicate how things would have been if I'd subscribed from day one. Nonetheless, as a current subscriber I can recognise the added value brought to the sub by paizo's policy in this regard.

This is a good business model (unfortunately). It encourages more people to sign up early. Getting more of your product out as early as possible helps with the greatest form of advertising: word of mouth. It seems I have missed any promo cards so far. When I subscribed only two days ago the site told me the promo cards are not available. I'll be one of the first subscribers for the next PFACG.

Now, if only they released one pack a month instead of every two months...

Agreed! I can't figure out why they are so far spaced...?

I'm thinking just to give them a whole year to write up the next adventure path. If they released them once a month they'd only have 6 months to work on it.

That's what I'm assuming. Paizo's got a good track record of selling subscription services based on what they're actually capable of producing in a given time period. They know what they're capable of, and they schedule accordingly.

Scarab Sages

I'm actually totally fine with the time between releases. With so many different characters to play, it's easy to go through the game multiple times with multiple groups of different characters and group-sizes and have totally different experiences. In addition, if you're playing with friends, it can sometimes take a while to get together and go through all five (or, in the case of the base set, eight) scenarios.

I'd far rather that they take the time and playtest things thoroughly than see them rush things out and have "new" content that just puts a different paint job on content that's very similar to old content. Consider this, too: once next year's base set is released, it's somewhat likely that there will be new characters, and one could go through the Rise of the Runelords content with those new characters (and / or possibly new monsters, items, etc.).

That is certainly a big part of it.

Maybe that makes sense, but personally I'd prefer to be able to buy this AP in months 1, 2, 3, 4... then wait 6 months for the next one to be released. Having to wait for releases that we know are already printed and sitting in a warehouse somewhere like the Ark of the Covenenant is quite frustrating!

Besides, replaying the first pack so many times is going to wear out the cards so I'll be able to spot the new ones... unless I sleeve the cards and you know what arguments there are about sleeving and the box design!

:)

I have sent you a personal message.

Missed the first two promo cars so I went to subscribe to the adventure packs so I would get the rest of the promo cards. But when I got to check out a message told me the promo cards were removed from the order. So subscibing is not a sure way to get the promo cards either. Disapointing.

I had some weird issues with the displaying of the promo cards earlier in the month (it showed it was going to send me last month's promos for a while) but I suspect it will all work itself out. My subscription page is still showing I'll only get one Blessing of Zarongel despite having two subscriptions plus I'm set to receive both Dance with Squealy Nord and Birdcruncher Crown in December (with set three) - I suspect that's just a glitch too.

I'd speak to customer service, if I were you. I'm sure a subscription is a guaranteed way to get future promo cards, even if there are some display issues.

Silver Crusade

Yeah, their web site seems to mess up the promo cards when you order the subscription. But if you email them, they seem good about fixing it for you.

I understand the business model; so this isn't a condemnation of it or anything of the sort. Just another point of view:

I strongly support my local game shop. So I am purchasing this through them even though I could get a slightly lower price through Paizo directly. I realize it is not as convenient for Paizo to sell through a distributor and game store rather than directly as they already have the infrastructure and support to sell directly at this time. They ARE making the cards available through local game shops, too. So really the only one I'm missing is going to be Fire Sneeze and that is simply because I don't make it to conventions.

To be fair, I'm also not entitled to anything just because it exists. So I don't begrudge them the choices. I just wish they had some other way to get the Fire Sneeze card.

Thank you,
-Atma

I want a Fire Sneeze card...

Yeah, and I want Poog. :-(

Doing them as a Print on Demand some time later would be a good idea.

I really dislike this way of handling promo cards.

I agree that this is a good business model. You sign up early you get all the benefits of the program, and then it is not offered later. In the video game world publishers often charge 20 to 40% for exclusive deals on launch only to discount the content at a lower price shortly after. Now that really is wrong. Anyway everyone pity me, i looked briefly on this site only saw the retail price so ran down to my local outlet. None in stock have it in a week, paid on the spot. THEN came home and figured out if i had just subscribed i would have saved 15% and got the promos. < hangs his head in shame> still like the business model

For some reason my retail came with Poog, which is nice though. But living half a world away there's no way to get a Fire Sneeze at a Paizo convention...

Silver Crusade

I have a second Fire Sneeze from Gencon if someone has a Poog they might be willing to part with.

Most people who sleeve will just do what I did tho; Print the missed cards and put them in front of a random Base card that would get removed from the game in a few months anyways. Plus, I already have 3 other Promos that haven't been released yet, with no plans to remove them when the real ones arrive.

We've been having some issues with setting up the Adventure Card Game subscription with the promo cards. Its a brand new subscription model for us and our existing code base is having some trouble a few of these details. Subscribers will get promo cards with a subscription. If you do not, please let customer.service@paizo.com know so we can set add them in for you.

*********
Poog and Fire Sneeze
Customers who started with the base set + character add on deck bundle or who contacted us to start with character add on deck should receive these.

Blessing of Zarongel:
Customers who start with Skinsaw Murders Adventure Deck or who already had a subscription starting with the base set/character add on deck should receive this card.
*********

Because there is so much confusion going around about these promo cards and how to start a subscription, as well as some issues we had last week with going through the store's check out: if you would like to start your subscription with the RotRL Base Set + Character Add-On deck OR the character add on deck alone start your subscription with Skinsaw Murders Adventure deck and then email customer.service@paizo.com with a request for us to manually add the option you would like to start with (bundle or character add on deck) and we will add that and the Poog/Fire Sneeze Promos to your subscription. This offer to start with the previous items stands until October 31st and is only for this instance of the Adventure Card Game subscription.

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments or concerns: customer.service@paizo.com

Would still be nice to find a way to get Fire Sneeze for the people who had no idea there even was a subscription until after already owning Base/Character sets. But my generic one will have to do, def not paying for the game over again nor paying just as much for it on ebay.

The vast majority of the promo cards are being sent away to friendly local retail stores. We are making them available to the stores through our distributors. What the stores do with them, we don't have any control of. We decided to make them available to subscribers as an easy way to make sure you get all of them. But the vast majority of the cards are going to end up in retailers hands. So go talk to your local retail store and get them to talk to their distributor. It should still be possible to get promo cards this way and there will be more coming over the next year.

Btw, we still have a bunch of the Fire Sneeze card and they will be handed out at various conventions throughout the coming months, so look for them wherever Paizo has a presence!

+1 for this - I am new to Paizo (and outside the USA). I'm a retailer so I'll get most of the promos and all the packs at staff discount rates, but I'm STILL tempted to subscribe now and get the other promos too!

It's just a pain that (a) I have uncertain customs charges to deal with and (b) the only way to get Fire Sneeze is to buy another character add-on pack.

H4ppy, you might also check out the Pathfinder Society boards. They are pretty good at keeping track of whether there might be an upcoming convention near you, and you could probably find out who your local "Venture-Captain" (PFS co-ordinator) is... they might even know if Fire Sneeze is being offered at the convention.

I am - like h4ppy, I believe - on the wrong continent for one of Paizo's conventions. I'm off to the world's largest games convention next week (three times bigger than Gencon in terms of visitor numbers), but I don't think that there will be any way to pick up a Fire Sneeze even from there :(
