yah, but some garbage like that would explain why Coulson just let her into the SHIELD club, no questions asked (or logic/sanity needed).

I'm thinking Coulson brought her onboard for the reasons we saw recently- her ability to hack SHIELD. I don't think that was his conscious reason for doing so, but he's starting to sub-consciously distrust the system since his death and wanted an ace-in-the-hole for when SHIELD stonewalls him, like in Ward and Fitz's mission.

the only episode i liked so far is the one with the Asgardian from Ally McBeal

This is basically it. And it's a build-up to Winter Soldier coming out just before MAoS wraps up its first season.

I believe you're mistaken. That was clearly the Asgardian from Ghostbusters II.

I prefer him in his more seminal television role.

I'm sure that something like that it is the reason, but I just don't buy it.

Skye had actually wiped all traces of herself "from the system," so it's pretty reasonable to assume that Coulson and May had no clue who she actually was until she showed Coulson the redacted file she had found.

Has the time frame for the Calvary incident ever been indicated?

I'm assuming that May was the agent that delivered Skye to an orphanage. I'm also assuming that May killed Skye's parents during that incident that went so terribly wrong. Skye's mother may have been the person of interest they were trying to meet with.

I am curious as to how of much Skye's unnatural hacking prowess stems from the writers not knowing anything about computers and how much of it stems from Skye being anomalous.

You're judging from the standards of Sci-Fi. This is a comic book setting adapted for dramatic television, both of which only stick to science when it boosts audience ratings, and kicks it to the curb when it gets in the way of that very same goal. (this includes of course, most. if not all, "Sci-Fi" TV.)

I find it hilarious that people expect Skye's hacking abilities to cling close to real life, but if Tony Stark were to do the exact same things, then it would be no big deal.

Marvel has always had people who's mastery of certain skills go way way beyond the plausible. Some of them have superpwers (Tony Stark, Reed Richards, etc). Some of them don't. Why is it so impossible to accept Skye as simply being a genius hacker?

For me it's not that I can't accept she is a genius hacker. It's that fact that that I just can't see that as enough to just throw everything to the wind and grant her a place on the team like it's nothing. Even "Gunn" went through intense training for the job and everyone was hesitant because he didn't complete it. But he was devoted to it. Skye on the other hand is (was) both a criminal by choice and a sort of lone wolf, and also has an personal agenda. To me, it just really stinks of "ok, you all met at the bar and now fully trust each other so we can just jump into the adventure" sort of mentality. Doesn't mean she isn't an interesting character, I just don't think she fits well, and it's too late to fix that. It's one of the things that just kind of ruins my suspension of disbelief for the show.

The Donnie Gill version of Blizzard is one of my favorite super villains of all time. I should be psyched he's going to be featured in a television series at all...but...just...I mean, does it have to be this one?

That would be more the challenge level that they've used so far rather than an actual super villain.

it would have been a hoot if Sigourney Weaver would have also shown up as a guest star in that M:AoS episode! LOL

So what do people feel of the new episode?

It was a bit more filler than I would have liked, with an obvious plot leaning strongly on cliches, but I liked it. A couple of decent action scenes and some superb acting from Coulson did the job. Other than that we DID find it that

Spoiler:
you can use turn undead on coulson

Not that I think it's a shock to anyone.

It was also weird just how commando Sky got so quickly. Since when is she pulling karate moves on security guards? I guess training with Ward was really effective.

Remember those were rent-a-cops. And they have shown use that move before in the episode with Gravitron.

Over all I liked the episode....it really did not answear anything.

Like exactly how did the bring Caulson back?

Also more impirtantly why did the spend all of those resouces?

Yes--I think the bigger question will be "why did Fury go to such trouble to keep Coulson with us?"

Sovereign Court

Yeah, was a good episode, but still no damn answers.

So what did they do? Keep Coulson's brain alive until they could resuscitate his body?

I loved when Skye punched that flower girl.

Lord Snow wrote:

That's the same move she was trained in several episodes earlier. The main difference this time is that the people didn't call her bluff like the first ones did.

So any speculation on who/what the Clairovoyant is? Since he/she/it is the big bad, I have to imagine that the persona is an established character from Marvel lore.

Personally wondering if it might be Ultron or related to Ultron...

John Kretzer wrote:

The first isn't really that important, yet. It's obviously alien tech of some kind. Whether they salvaged it from the Chitauri or garnered it elsewhere might develop the show further. If we've had prior contact with other alien lifeforms then that may factor into the show in later seasons.

"Why?" is the big question. Coulson certainly wasn't brought back to life for sentimental reasons.

MMCJawa wrote:

That's a good guess. An A.I. could be considered "clairvoyant," since it could have the ability to get into databases and access information that would be otherwise inaccessible, but then that brings up the personal information the Clairvoyant had on Coulson. That was private and, presumably, not something a machine would be privy to, unless it was in the form of personal journals kept electronically...or perhaps SHIELD had his lover under surveillance, just in case.

I think in the Age of Ultron comic plotline, Ultron actually invaded Earth from the future. If so he might appear clairovayant by all of this being in the past for him.

Hama wrote:

Unlikely--otherwise why would they have to mask Coulson's memory of pain?

Since this is S.H.I.E.L.D. I would hazard a guess at Mentallo...

Liberty's Edge

Mentallo is a good guess. He's got a history with SHIELD and he's obscure enough it's unlikely he'd be used in one of the movies. I don't think Mentallo can see the future, but he can read minds so, if he's been around SHIELD, he could maybe have gotten close enough to Coulson to pull thoughts from his head. I've also heard Kang floated as an idea for the same "he's from the future" reason as the Age of Ultron attack. I'm not sure who owns the film rights to Kang, but I'm guessing it's Fox since he's been said to be a future version of Dr. Doom and they've got FF.

When last night's episode started, I thought maybe a month had gone by with Coulson missing. Everyone was working together so well, like an actual team of competent secret agents. Then they said it'd only been 32 hours, and I was kind of confused. I guess you could say Coulson's kidnapping forced everyone to step up their game, but I was still wondering where these people were for the first half of the season. I hope this means the show is turning a corner because this episode was actually pretty good.

I also hope there's more to Coulson's reveal because "you were an emo zombie so we scrambled your egg," is a pretty weak excuse for dragging this mystery out over several episodes. I did like the creepy robot brain surgeon though. That was pretty awesome.

The Mike Peterson thing at the stinger sort of makes me feel like SHIELD either did a really poor job of searching for his body after the explosion or didn't look at all, but I guess it isn't too farfetched that they found his leg and just assumed the worst. I've seen some comments suggesting he's being setup to become Deathlok, but I hope that isn't true.

It looks like Blizzard is in the next episode and they've completely re-imagined the character. From the trailer, it looked like Donnie Gill is a college student who builds a weather machine that gets out of control. That's lame, and I hope I'm wrong.

Anybody else see the story saying Stan Lee is going to play a big role in an upcoming episode?

The Exchange

Oh please tell me their going to address the cloned old guy syndrome from the movies (ok they could technically be the same guy, but given the odd places he's shown up I think not.)

I like the theory that Stan is secretly Uatu the Watcher.

Sovereign Court

I loved the last show! for some reason I can't shake the feeling that Centipede will be associated to A.I.M. and that the Clairvoyant is MODOK.

I don't think Coulson is a zombie...I think he is some sort of clone:

Here me out. That brain robot wasn't fixing Coulson...it was recopying Coulson's memories/personality/etc into the clone. That explains why Coulson 2.0 doesn't have muscle memory. That scar they gave him was cosmetic, so he wouldn't know he was a clone.

Sounds reasonable. He was stabbed in the chest, so there's no reason why they'd be operating on his brain.

I think the clairvoyant is MODOK. The way she described his "algorithms".

I finally got around to catching up on this (missed a lot of TV due to moving, holidays, etc. and this frankly wasn't high on my priorities list of shows to catch up on).

Pleasantly surprised by the last 3 episodes, especially "Repairs" (not for the villain, but for actually trying to inject some character into the show). Not sure if it's because I've had time to let my hatred of Skye settle or what but she seems a lot more tolerable now too, especially as of the mid-season finale here.

I like to be more generous and think that people just have different expectations from superheroes like Ironman when compared to "normal" people like the agents we see in this show.

Still, complaining about Skye's hacking skills is kind of ridiculous when you think of how insanely (and equally unrealistically) the rest of the crew are in their respective fields - Ward and Cavalry are each capable of single handily defeating 300 Spartans in close combat, FitzSimmons have scientific capabilities that would make Tesla seem like a dimwitted child playing at being inventor, and Coulson is a lich.

Picking on Sky out of all of these characters is a bit childish.

Well, there are plenty of complaints about Ward and FitzSimmons in this thread, but they don't center around 'unrealistic skills.' Coulson and May are played by fan-fave actors, so they are probably being given a pass.

Shadow Lodge

Didn't Stark hack SHIELD from his cell phone to find out about the Tesseract weapons SHIELD was developing in The Avengers?

And I agree, it's not because Sky is female, it's because she isn't an established character.

For me it's not even that, (I could care less if she has a vagina or a penis, <and really no idea why that little accusation even came up>), I just don't really like her character so much. Has nothing to do with gender, or the actress, (or the other cast), I just don't dig her character so much. Person preference I guess. It kind of seems like every other episode I start to like her a bit more, and then the next all the thing I hate about her are played up again.

I was talking about the criticism of her unrealistic hacking skills.

Liberty's Edge

Lord Snow is right. Skye's obnoxious personality and grossly inflated sense of entitlement are much better reasons for picking on her than her Hollywood-standard, ill-defined magical hacking powers.
