Outsider Type Questions

Rules Questions

So I was creating a character that was of the Suli race, which has the Outsider type so I just had a few questions about some things that confused me.
1) "Skill points equal to 6 + Int modifier (minimum 1) per Hit Die." So to me this means that at level 2 I would get 12 + 2xint mod, which seems just silly, hopefully someone can explain this better than it is worded, unless that is actually what it means.
2) "Two good saving throws, usually Reflex and Will." This confuses me, does it get a bonus to saving throws? I just don't understand why this is a feature of the type when it really just seems like a suggestion?

I think that is all I have for now, I will repost any further questions here, thanks for any help.

Yes, but that's the grand total. He gets 6+int at the first level, and 6+int at the second, for a grand total of 12 + 2xint.

However, a Suli gets no such thing. They get whatever their class(es) give them, since they do not have any racial hit-dice.

Again, this simply does not apply to the Sulis (Sulies? Sullii?). They get the saves their attributes and class levels grant them, just like any other PC.

You stumbled on the rules for Outsiders as "monsters", but those simply have no relevance whatsoever to player races without racial hit-dice. A Suli doesn't even get the martial weapon proficiency that other Outsiders get for free - unless they get it from a class level of course.

Oh I think I understand, so really what you are saying is by creating a Suli character that isn't a monster I don't get any of the Outsider features such as:
- d10 Hit Dice.
- Base attack bonus equal to total Hit Dice (fast progression).
- Two good saving throws, usually Reflex and Will.
- Skill points equal to 6 + Int modifier (minimum 1) per Hit Die. The following are class skills for outsiders: Bluff, Craft, Knowledge (planes), Perception, Sense Motive, and Stealth. Due to their varied nature, outsiders also receive 4 additional class skills determined by the creature's theme.
Which is very confusing, why even give the race that type if it doesn't get the actual features for being that type! But thank you.

That is correct. You instead get the Sulis Racial Traits listed here in the Advanced Race Guide, with whatever bonuses your class then gets.

Those rules are to allow the GM to make enemy Suli with racial Hit Dice, something that PC characters don't get. PCs advance by character level, NPC monster characters can advance by Hit Dice or by character level, or even both. However, racial Hit Dice add to CR, but you don't get class abilities from Hit Dice. So while a Suli might have a good hit die and BAB from it's racial HD, it wouldn't gain any class abilities which is usually the bread and butter of a character.

Instead of creating a new thread, I'll ask this here.

Can an outsider use Juggernaut Pauldrons?

It says it enlarges, like "Enlarge Person". But does that mean it's limited to only humanoids, too?

It's as good a place as any.

If its body has the shoulder for it, yes.

That part of the Pauldrons' powers would indeed be useless to an Outsider, since the items' description mentions no exception to them working like an Enlarge Person spell. The other abilities should work just fine though.

The only reason I wanted them was to be enlarged :(
