That's not to say he "engaged" in PvP, just that he was "involved" in PvP :)

Four and a half times; three times I was killed while running away, one time I evaded by jumping off a cliff into a river, and once I saw someone very far away and immediately went the opposite direction.

Can you get permission from Lisa (or whomever is the correct point of contact) for us to use The Goblin Song?

Goblin Squad Member

I will say a few things.

The PVP ganking is not nearly as prevalent as I believed that it would be.

Any PfO players wanting a place to get to know each better, learn to co-operate in a "similar" setting, and get the "anxiety" edge taken of off PVP should join us.

The cost is something I know is daunting. I have gotten more enjoyment just with some chat and GUI antics (with people from here) to make it seem it will be worth it.

The GUI is frustrating and takes learning curve, but is usable. What one person can do, another person can do. If you can learn and get competent at their GUI, you will be a king when you play a well designed one. ;)

Doing some additional research, it appears that tier 4 gear can be crafted entirely from within the green zone/safe area/hisec.

Whoever said that there wasn't grinding was simply lying. If we boost a small number of crafters, we can reduce the total grind required to get the best decent equipment- plus a lot of second-rate stuff that we can afford to lose.

Goblin Squad Member

In that I don't plan to PvP in PFO either, I don't personally see this as a chance for me to build those skills, so I'll likely just be a harvester and scrounger.

Goblin Squad Member

I haven't found a loot-all button yet. I think that for party fights, in PvE anyway, it might be useful to have designation looters who focus on looting and skinning while the killers and healers do their stuff. We left a lot of uncleared grave markers in the big fight yesterday.

(The PvE fights make me think of how we might have to organize for large-scale PvE harvesting in PFO)

Goblin Squad Member

If we don't get an official "Yes" by 8 pm EST Thursday, 22 AUG, I'll go ahead and use DeciusBrutus's suggestion. We need the clan to get organized sooner than later. Maybe we can change it later, maybe not. Got the funds, and need to learn skills and assign jobs, etc...

Goblin Squad Member

Anyone worked out how dominion works yet? The documentation for DFUW seems to be woefully inadequate.

I also think we should get 1000 prowess for every crash to desktop. I will expect it in EE but in a fully released game... 5 times already...

That's because of the safe areas. In the original Darkfall most NPC cities had towers that would shoot lightning bolts at every grey and red player in and outside them. They were strong but could be tanked if approached properly making suicide ganking and even not so suicidal ganking possible. I even encountered a group that would shoot fireballs down into a town from outside tower range. I'll tell you what we did about it and the tears they cried if you ask me on Teamspeak. ;)

Anyway in the Old Darkfall nowhere was fully safe and there was not a spot in the entire game that monsters could be farmed safely. Even the newb-sewers weren't protected by towers if a red managed to slip inside.

In the Unholy Wars there are huge 100% safe areas that include many monster spawns. It appears you cannot be harmed by players in this areas as I smacked someone with a damage spell accidentally while trying to heal him, and it seemed to do nothing.

Goblin Squad Member

I posted a much too long post on the Charter and Motto thread. Honestly I've lost track of which thread is what. I'll try to get on Team Speak by the time this weekend is over. New headset. Woohoo!

It is never a good idea to get your first taste of PvP running solo. Anyone who challenges you, knows for certain they can beat you.

Try traveling in a group of 3 - 5 and search for solo targets yourself, or small groups where you still have an advantage.

Remember, if you are trying to get comfortable with Doing PvP, winning is more important than showing sportsmanship. Ganking is the best way to learn PvP, without actually breaking the rules of the game.

Here are a few very informative videos I wish I had seen a few days ago on how things work in DFUW:

All right you all talked me into playing this game. I will get into it over the weekend. After I have it installed and up and working, I will jump into the TS server. My characters name will be Kell Staninn. I will make him a Skirmisher. Haven't decided on a race as of yet.

Goblin Squad Member

Glad to hear it, Kell :)

I have added a Goblin Squad on Darkfall list to the Nihimonicon. I'm pretty sure I got all the posts that linked to New Player Guides. Please point it out if I missed anything.

The Nihimonicom just entered my Cthulhu-based PFRPG game as a forbidden book! ;)

I started adding raw materials to the clan bank. I noticed we're out of empty bags, which are the one thing I could use. I would try to make my own, but I seem to be having some issue with the workbench and crafting procedures. I'll try it again later today.

Also, I didn't see anyone claim cooking. My main in UO was a master chef, so I might try that focus here...besides mastering in scrounging. :)

Goblin Squad Member

I'll add more bags when I get on tonight. I meant to add 15 last night, but got stopped in the middle of my crafting and forgot to resume, so I only added 5.

IF AV still has many more skills to introduce the radial wheel system might scale up better to a very broad array of abilities, so in that light it could be argued to make sense.

With the current skill set it strongly needs greater clarification in the tutorial, perhaps even to begin with binding your keys right from the start.

Permitting more keystrokes to be called by a single function key, for example, would solve most of my issues. Really we shouldn't have to go download Autohotkey to adequately respond to a predictable need: macro functionality should already be present if the system will otherwise require three hands to play effectively.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm using 1-8 for my left radial presets, F1-F8 for my right radials, and 1-8 on the keypad for my quickslots. But I agree - I should be able to do most things with one press of a button; not 1 press to arm a feat and a mouseclick to fire.

Goblin Squad Member

just an fyi, if you hit q or e you swap between active radials, you can have 1-8 for both, just hit q or e, then snap back. the way skills seem to work you have time to do this since there is a delay.

Also i dont know if other people know this but if you hit esc, on the right hand sign if you click clans, then scroll to goblin squad and click it, in that window at the bottom there is a button to send an application so you dont actually have to near the guild or people.

OK, Ryan. We formed the Goblin Squad. Now it's time to pony up and apply for membership. We have almost 20 members in the clan, and will be reaching out to other PFO posters, fans, and prospects. We want to ast as wide a net as possible first to the PFO loyals, but then to lots of other folks. We are trying to drum you, Lisa and PFO some new customers so when this clan gets shut down we'll all just segue right into EE.

Send an application to the Goblin Squad, but let us know who you are in a PM.

Looking forward to it! And bring some friends!

Some of you have talked about Storm as a different interface. Is this just faster network or would it allow Mac users (nor using that dog called Parallels)?

:( i´m having the same problem, since the day i bought the game.

a piece of advice, i hoped nobody else would need:
If you want support with that problem don´t use the error repot exe from the game folder and don´t try to get help on theforum either.
in both case you won´t get any response.

instead: go to the support section and submit a ticket, i sent mine to the technical department.
they gave me the advice to close my firewall and antivirus software down, so better try that out and write in your error report that you did - will save you time.
oh,
YOu need to put your Accountname+Charactername+server into your ticket, for them to file it properly.

in case i missed something there is a how-to-submit-a-ticket-video in the support section

Edit: next step answer the following questions.
1. Are you using steam to connect to darkfall unholy wars?
2. Game account name: which i mentioned allready above
3. Country that you are logging in from?
4. Als please let us know if your issue is connected with any recent change as far as your connection to the internet is concerned. Do let us know if yxou recently changed ISPs, networking hardware or the way you connect to the internet in general.

Goblin Squad Member

Oh Lord, the "no virus protection" suggestion. Completely scary scenario in today's world.

Goblin Squad Member

even more so as it is the sam av-software that was running when i was playing the game on the day i bought it.
oh well, i´ll try to remain as patient as a Buddhistic panda bear in hibernation... not sure how that will end though

i checked everything (firewall pc and internet box, torrent, antivirus, no steam connection, no change on my apps, reboots, updates etc)

the ONLY thing that i done is I CREATED a new player on the european server, after that i was unable to connect to both servers...

@Kenshi33
Next step:

If you haven´t created a ticket yet, do so and follow this instruction.

Quote:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your reply.

We will be needing a copy of your game logs in order to further assess your issue.
Please be as kind as to follow the process below in order to submit your logs to Customer Support:

* WE NEED THE LOGS GENERATED WHEN YOU EXPERIENCED YOUR ISSUE. PLEASE DO NOT SEND US OUTDATED OR LATER LOGS AS THEY WILL NOT HOLD THE INFORMATION WE REQUIRE*

1. Open your Program files folder or the folder in which you have installed Darkfall: Unholy Wars
2. Next find the Darkfall Unholy Wars folder
3. Click on the folder and you should see a "Data" folder
4. You will need to upload all files with the extension "*.log" to this ticket response

These files will appear as TXT Documents in your Windows Explorer File Type column. These files are in the form client_*_ClientGamelogic. More specifically, you should have some or all of these files - some may be empty:

client_1_ClientEngine
client_1_ClientGamelogic
client_1_Controller
lobby

It is possible there are many files with this extension. If the files are large you may have to send them one at a time.

Also, if you have any issues sending the files through our ticketing center you can send the files to: cs@aventurine.gr.

Please make sure to include your ticket number in the subject header as well as your account name and server name.

Once we have your logs we will be able to provide further assistance.

You can also see this information in our Knowledge Base

Thank you,
Darkfall Unholy Wars Customer Support

@ Gedichtewicht

did you create 2 players ? or just 1 before you can't connect?

and thanks for your help, i already sent a ticket yesterday, so i 'm waiting for their response before following the above instruction in your text.

hope we 'll be back soon

;) i allready answered that in another threat, but anyway, no, just one character on NA. i isntalled the game, tryed it for an hour or so, and the next time i tried to i didn´t connect.

Goblin Squad Member

I have shut down Windows Firewall before if I had another system in place such as Norton antivirus or AVG. But I would never leave my system without some protection.

If all else fails, rub some bacon on it.

Goblin Squad Member

Usually, when someone suggests that you try shutting down your Firewall or Virus Protection, they're not actually suggesting that you always shut them down while playing. Rather, they're trying to identify if one of those is causing a problem. If you're able to connect with those disabled, then immediately disconnect and turn them back on, but now you know where you need to focus your efforts.

Goblin Squad Member

Meh. Instead of paying for a new game, I just re-upped my sub to WAR.
Forgot how much fun the PvP was...

Goblin Squad Member

Nihimon wrote:

True, but this as well as un- and reinstalling, repatching, executing game with administrator rights, executing game in xp-service pack 2 compatibility mode - are the basic stuff i try out before even considering to send a ticket.

Well, they try to figure out what´s wrong, i think i´ll wait for another week.
If it works then, fine, otherwise i´ll put my money into another month of eve, or buy minecraft.

Goblin Squad Member

Just as a general sentiment. If a game requires you to disable the security measures it is not worth playing.

You can set a game to be accepted by the security program in most cases. I have also found that logging into the launcher of games in Admin Mode is best.

NOTE: Steam is showing Darkfall Unholy Wars at half off (so $19.97) today. *grumble* People on the fence about trying it or playing with the rest of the crew might take advantage of that. See you in game.
