Exactly what it says on the tin.

Obviously from our preview teasers, Mythic Monsters: Demons is first on our list, but we've got a half-dozen books already moving swiftly toward completion. If you want to do mythic, you want to get your hands on these. Check it out.

Sold! Happy camper indeed!

I'll definitely be having a looksy. Wrath starts next Tuesday for us and what could be better than more Mythic monsters to throw against us?

Wooo! More Mythic monsters! And hopefully some of them will be high leveled:)

We can haz mythic tarrasque plz? ^.^

I'm interested in this and looking forward to it.

It's always good to have more demons.
It's always good to have more mythical demons.
It's always good to have even more mythical monsters in general that Legendary Games will create.

However, by far the most blatantly important aspect that could possibly come about because of this is that we finally have a picture for Dark_Mistress.

I kind of pictured her with bigger wings and wielding a whip though.

While I agree about the whip, I can't say I'm complaining. Mostly because I'm scared she'll skin me alive with that knife she's got there...

Also, so seriously stoked for this. Congrats, you've come up with a product that I'll almost certainly use, which is rare for me with 3PP stuff. I'm more of a supporter because I like the idea, I rarely use the supplements.

EDIT: Wow. Having just had a look at some of your stuff, there's actually going to be a lot more 3PP showing up in my games soon.

Great to hear it Tinkergoth! I'm always happy when someone is excited by our product. I think you won't be disappointed.

And there's more stuff on the way!

I've loved the stuff you have out as expansions on the Ultimate Campaign, and I expect the same kind of quality from these. I was really hoping to see a number of 3rd party products supporting Mythic Play, and I am glad to see you guys leading the charge - this will be an instabuy for me.

Someone ping Dark_Mistress about the artwork from their site...

Nice. I'll definitely be checking this out. More mythic monsters is never a bad thing.

Glad to hear it. Just wait until you see what else we have planned. More to come this weekend about Mythic Monsters, and then another big announcement next week!

...Mythic Leprechaun perhaps?

Now that you mention Wrath of the Righteous, I wonder what kind of nastiness Legendary Games will be cooking up for that particular adventure path with their Adventure Path Plugins line (assuming, of course, that they will get around to Wrath of the Righteous eventually).

But yeah, Mythic Monsters: Demons will be an instabuy for me.

How will future releases for this be handled? Will each book have a monster type or subtype if focuses on, or are you going base it on monsters that fit a certain theme across all creature types for each book.

Since the first book will be about demons I'm assuming it's likely the former. It doesn't bother me either way. I'm just curious.

How many books are going to be in this series? I thought that was stated somewhere, but I can't seem to find it now. Maybe I imagined I read it.

We'll have more information on future releases coming later today (church picnic tomorrow afternoon will take me out most of the day), but first we wanted to give you a look-see at what to expect inside the covers of Mythic Monsters: Demons.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

And a look at some of the mythic powers for demons!

I do like the idea for this book, I always love more evil outsiders, though (and this is just a nit-picky thing) I had the idea that 'Mythic' monsters would be more like unique beings than whole races of horrors. Though of course everything I've seen described here can be used like that.

Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to getting this one. I just hope we also still get some non-mythic monsters from you guys too.

Mythic monsters are ultimately whatever you want them to be. They can be just supercharged or more interesting versions of existing monsters, or the ur-example of their kind. That's why this text appears in the frontmatter of every Mythic Monsters product:

Every mythic monster could be an elder of its kind, specially blessed or cursed by the gods, a noble lord or powerful champion, the last remnant of a mightier primeval race, a singular being unto itself, or perhaps a newly evolved master race looking to supplant the ordinary beings of its ilk that came before. To repeat these narratives for every monster, with slight variations, would be redundant. You can create the perfect origin story and background for mythic versions of ordinary monsters that fits precisely with your world.

If you want your mythic monsters to be one of a kind, they are.

If you want them to be a special variant, they are.

Heck, if you want to use the mythic version to supersede and replace the existing version, you can do that too.

The stats (other than the ecology of "number appearing") assume nothing about the commonality or rarity of a mythic creature, but I will say this: If you DO want all of your mythic monsters to be singular nonesuches, then that's all the more reason to check out this product line, because otherwise you are going to run out of mythic monsters pretty quickly with just the 47 that appear in the Mythic Adventures hardback.

As to your second question, fear not! We just released Beasts of Legend: Boreal Bestiary, which is available now on our website and will be available in wide release starting tomorrow, and we have another regular monster product being written right now for an upcoming product line that we'll be revealing soon.

So monster lovers unite, mythic and non-mythic alike! The monsters, they are coming, and they are LEGENDARY!

Mythic fey anywhere on the horizon?

The one for mounts looks good, and wow but you guys look to have a real fancy for oozes, molds, slimes, and fungi. Juiblex would be so proud.

I really have to take the blame (or credit, hopefully) for that part of it. I asked the other contributors on the team to pick the monsters they wanted to do, and they went for "cool" monsters. I, on the other hand, think I went looking for some fixer-uppers, some monsters that have been around the game forever but maybe needed some love. With these mythic rules, we had a chance to really inject some new life and some excitement into those creatures. Originally, it was just going to be done product of "Molds, Oozes, Slimes, and Fungi," but it just kept growing and growing (pun intended).

And after doing them, I've gotta say they really came out pretty cool. I think people will be very excited by what they find in these products.

How about "Mythic Legendary Games Monsters?" :)

Don't think we haven't thought about it. It's on the double-secret list. :)

I'm liking the idea of a mythic mu spore. I wonder if a mythic ascomoid will be in there. That could make for something both interesting and humorous. The same with the gelatinous cube.

I have to admit the idea of a mythic black pudding scares the hell out of me.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

I am happy to report that there is, in fact, the mythic ascomoid in there, and just for fun I'll even share its mythic powers. Behold!

Fungal Juggernaut (Ex) A mythic ascomoid gains Charge Through as a bonus feat, and in addition it can attempt an overrun combat maneuver as a free action against any creature that fails its saving throw against its trample attack. If a creature in the path of its trample attack succeeds on its Reflex save, a mythic ascomoid can spend one use of its mythic power as an immediate action to attempt an overrun combat maneuver against that creature.

Puffball Avalanche (Ex) A mythic ascomoid gains a +2 circumstance bonus on attack rolls whenever it attacks from higher ground; this stacks with the normal attack roll bonus for higher ground. If it begins a trample attack from higher ground, it increases the save DC by 2.

And, the piece de resistance...

Spore Jet (Ex) A mythic ascomoid can spend one use of its mythic power as a swift action to use its jet of spores to propel itself into the air. This produces a 10-foot radius cloud of spores centered on the ascomoid’s position, while allowing the ascomoid to launch itself up to 30 feet in any direction, including straight up. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity, and the ascomoid does not take falling damage when it lands, unless it falls farther than 30 feet. A mythic ascomoid can make a single attack at the end of this movement, which is treated as a charge attack even if it did not move in a straight line. If the mythic ascomoid launched itself into the air, it is considered to be attacking from higher ground with this attack.

You can't have FUN without FUNgus. Or maybe it's the other way around. :)

It's probably nowhere near up to snuff compared to what the Legendary guys can do, but I statted up a Mythic Tarrasque during the playtest. It doesn't have any new abilities, as I decided to keep things simple and just add new feats and universal abilities. However, it's still a monster!

Jason Nelson wrote:

As someone who moves around a lot, I prefer not to have too many physical books, and mainly just go for PDFs.

Lately been avoiding the purchase of monster because they frequently end up being stuff that I almost always view on the pfsrd/prd, and I'm never too wild about the artwork.
But I can tell you now, without seeing the products, that you have almost certainly broken this trend: I will quite likely purchase the PDFs of Mythic Molds/slimes, Mythic Oozes (Too?), and Mythic Inner planes. And, if I like the finished product, it is quite possible I will also grab Mythic demons and Mythic Mythos (I'm not a big fan of mounts, though, but if it's really good I might get that too).

Also, if you do a Mythic Aeons, Mythic Inevitables, Mythic Formians, or Mythic Daemons, I will definitely buy them.
So yea...when I say I'm someone who doesn't buy monster books? There's a high chance you are about to change that. And if it involves mythic versions of any of my four favorite kinds of outsiders (Repeated for emphasis (in no particular order): Aeons, Daemons, Formians, Inevitables), then your chance of breaking my non-buying-monster-books-streak increases to 100%.

Jason,

I sent you a PM.

Legendary indeed! Great work on these products guys. Just amazing stuff.

Oh, and the Dark Mistress power...perfect. :)

We need DM here to chime in, since she now not only has artwork but also has her own special mythic ability.

Maybe I shouldn't keep her so busy in the palace...

Are there plans to release these in printed form (as a compilation of several PDFs, presumably)?

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

There is a plan for print products in this line, though the details are still under wraps for now. It's kind of a new idea in monster products, so I'm curious to see how things go before I say more on the subject.

Thanks for the kind words. I did several of the Spawn of Rovagug for the Inner Sea Bestiary, and I worked on developing a set of typical traits for creatures of that type. They would really work just fine as mythic abilities too. That's the key to what we want to do with these products; make abilities that are really fun and different and absolutely NOT just a pile of bigger numbers. The bigger numbers will be there, but the payoff is in the variety of things each monster can do.

We do definitely have some high-CR mythic creatures already in the hopper. I believe the mythic mu spore is the highest-CR creature we've done so far - CR 26/MR 10 - just a notch above the mythic balor demon at 25/10.

Cool, thanks. I'll keep an eye out.

Mythic Monsters: Demons should be available today! I'll post up the link when it goes live.

As for the other Mythic Monsters products, several are done being written but waiting on art, which should be in by this weekend, and some are still in the writing and editing phase. Of the monster groups 137ben mentioned, I'd say Mythic Monsters: Outsiders of Law would be closest to the top of the heap - inevitables, hooooo!!!

But actually, once demons are out the door, there is something else coming soon.

Probably not as much as I should. I was up until 3:20 AM last night finishing the final post-proofreading edits on another 85-page manuscript so I could send it over to layout. But that's for later. Or sooner. It all depends... :)

Meanwhile, the joke, IT CONTINUES!

Though I usually let Jason handle the marketing, I have been studiously at work on the Mythic Mythos.

Goodies coming up:

The hounds of Tindalos
The denizens of Leng
Leng Spiders!
Moonbeasts!

I see Jason has let the (mythic) cat out of the bag. :-)

I'll go check on that right now!
