[Mythic] Ruins of Pathfinder: Road to Damnation Interest Check

Recruitment

The Plane of Shadow actually won't make an appearance in the campaign - I'm sticking primarily to the Outer Sphere. But.. his planar knowledge in general might come in handy in that case. Make a good background and story for the Wayang and I'll allow it. You'll also have to explain why you're in the Inner Sea, as Wayangs are primarily found in Tian Xia. A Fetchling would be more likely to be encountered in the Inner Sea than a Wayang - but either way, the Plane of Shadow won't be in the campaign. Expect Alignment-based Planes primarily.

@F. Castor: I'll have to get back to you on that, as I'm not sure exactly. I'll have to ask Rob (Or you can do so as well). Plus, Rob's working on his Ruins of Pathfinder Wiki - it'll be on there.

Here's what little I've got so far, I'm thinking my missionary is a widely traveled sort who still believes in the cause of Razmir - this can change during play, of course.

Well, at most it would be seven years before Reign of Winter, though from the information provided, I am assuming closer to five or six. So, taking into account that this particular campaign takes place before Reign of Winter, I am thinking around three to five years ago at the most before Road to Damnation begins?

Anyway, the bare bones of his background would be that Vaenathis and his father had left Kyonin and were in the crusader city of Kenabres when the meteor hit, seeking any insight the warriors and scholars of that city might have that could aid the elves in the defense of their land against the demonic forces residing in Tanglebriar. Thus they were able to avoid the fate of so many of their fellow elves. Some time after that event, the two of them tried to enter Kyonin and assess the damage themselves, perhaps even look for stranded survivors. However, they would come face to face with a group of demons led by Revanora's son, a half-fiend elf who knew the details of his mother's demise so long ago. Upon seeing Araevel and, more importantly, the sword he wielded, he knew that this was the very weapon with which his mother, a succubus witch of great power, was killed, perhaps even sensing a hint of her essence, small and weak, within the artifact. It was only thanks to Araevel's sacrifice, the older elf facing the half-fiend and ultimately perishing in the attempt, that allowed Vaenathis to escape not only with his life, but with Morathil as well. From that day forward, Revanora's descendant has vowed to hunt down the last scion of House Konnal and end his line once and for all and retrieve the magical blade, his ultimate goal to bring his mother back to life.

Considering the changes the world has in Ruins of Pathfinder, I am not entirely sure if the above holds up or if there are certain things I should change. As I said though, this is the gist of his background and I am certainly open to fine-tuning it further and correct any discrepancies.

Road to Damnation will likely start in the summer of 4712 - roughly a year before the abnormal winters begin. All of the other catastrophes featured in each of the other Adventures Paths Rob mentioned have happened already, though.

As for backgrounds and the like, I'm not planning on giving any feedback on those just yet. This was primarily an interest check - we still have nearly a month before I start recruitment. You guys have no idea how much I'm itching for the Mythic Adventures book to come out. XD

And despite there being a Second Darkness.. Osirion is still as hot as ever, as Rob told me it only lowered the temperatures there by 10 degrees or so. Still pretty major as far as weather goes, but.. expect to roast nonetheless. :)

Well, as you have graciously opened the door to summoners, I would like to throw my hat into the ring.

Rather than take one of the two archetypes I consider broken (you mentioned one), I would like to propose a broodmaster summoner that is a pitborn tiefling.

Having seen and loved Despicable Me 2 with my six year old, the concept of many demon 'minions' running around will be fun and flavorful.

So: Here is my 'hook'-- as the end of the world comes, the less evil and less powerful demons flock to the chaotic neutral half-demonic summoner. Can he fight off evil and corruption? or will a concerned band of do-gooders bring him to redemption?

It would be funny, by the way, to send a small demon with a bag of 50 gold pieces and a note to the alchemist to buy some alchemist fire :-)

50+ posts in a day, that qualifies for some interest :-)

Indeed it does qualifies as there being enough interest for the campaign. I was going to run it either way.. but if there didn't seem to be enough interest on the boards, I was figuring I could talk some of my current co-players to join me. :P

Heh, Minions! Love those little bastards.

OK, I awoke buzzing with ideas this morning. Listing a few with related questions:

  • A Mwangi Saurian Shaman seems like all kinds of fun, thematically and mechanically. Do you have any concerns about one? What is the Mwangi Expanse like in this alternate reality?
  • I've also been wondering what a Mwangi Paladin might be like. Do you (or others on this thread) know of materials I should check out in creating one?
  • On the topic of Paladins, I see thematic references to Qadiran Dervish Paladins of Serandae. Are there any archetypes/mechanics that can be used to reflect this?

Thanks for getting my head swirling...

  • Scarab Sages

    Morning Crusty!

Quick question.. how do you feel about the Spell-Less Ranger variant from Kobold Quarterly being used?

  • As far as I'm aware, the two dervish archetypes are for bards. One's the Dervish of Sarenrae from Inner Sea Magic, and the other's the Dervish Dancer from Ultimate Combat. There is a feat for it in the Inner Sea World Guide, though, I think.

Not sure if that helps, of course, but there it is.

There also is a fighter archetype, the Dawnflower Dervish. It's closer to paladin yet not quite there.

If you know Toot-Toot, I can see them working for pizza. Maybe elven pastries?

I actually haven't seen that - nor do I have the money to buy it right now to check it out. I'm not hugely fond of 3rd party stuff, except from the Wayfinder series. Plus it isn't on the PFSRD sadly.. so I can't take a look at it there.

I'd probably just stick to non-third party stuff for now. Perhaps we'll talk about it more once I start recruitment - though if you can message me info on it, I'll take a look at it sooner.

  • Mwangi.. I know the southern area of the Mwangi expanse (Near Sargava especially) has been overrun by the rebirth of the Serpentfolk Empire, who are rapidly expanding through conquest.

As for a Mwangi Paladin.. thats a tough one, as the Mwangi don't usually have the society that would bring about a Paladin in their presence. Any Mwangi that would be a Paladin would be from somewhere else, rather than the Mwangi Expanse.

Yeah, I guess that could serve the same purpose as Gestalt. I haven't seen the rules so I don't know. My main interest is in starting out as really weak "normal" people, and then when we become mythic turning into heroes.

On the topic of the Mythic Rules Jelani, while I of course haven't seen the official ones, the Playtest ones were pretty nuts. For example, I was playtesting a Barbarian 1/Martial Artist Monk 1/Champion 1 and.. lets say this level 2/mythic 1 character was nuts. He could stay conscious and fighting until -45 hp, gaining DR 10/Epic in the negative hit points - though he'd remain staggered during that time. He survived a front line massacre against eighteen level 1 orc warriors with scimitars - he himself only had 11 AC during this time, but was nearly taking out two orcs a round with his 4 attacks. For a reference, he had a Marshal granting him an extra attack each round in addition to one of his own Mythic powers, and was using flurry of blows while raged. And Enlarged. Dropped down to 3 attacks when staggered.. still pretty impressive.

Mythic is nutz, yo. I can't wait to see the finalized rules.

    Call me interested...

    Definitely dotting for interest.

I have an idea for an atheist Alchemist from Rahadoum who's a kind of reverse Dr. Jeckel. Not so much that he is evil as his alter is genuinely good.
Yes, I intend to go Master Chymist, sort of...

Leaning strongly towards an Ulfen Barbarian exiled from Hermea. He did not take too kindly to his firstborn son being banished for being imperfect.

    Liberty's Edge

Only got a slight preview of the mythic rules so far, but I'm in for this. I have a couple characters pre-existing that could work well, but I may be struck by inspiration between now and then.

In all likelihood though, I will be starting college soon, so I may be limited to a post a day or the like, as opposed to my regular check ins now.

    Grand Lodge

Loving the idea of playing a ranger who wants to build a frontier the into great unknown - aka. the various planes of existence. Probably going to play a human ranger.

I know this was asked already but with college starting in about 4 weeks, could I draft up my character now for submission?

I am quite interested and am thinking I'd want to try something like a elf void elementalist wizard. Seeking the source of all energy and life in the universe, not to save it but to see what has caused the various heroes of the past to fail.

The same answer applies to you as I gave to the other person. Just know I won't get around to reviewing it for a while, so you'll have to remind me when I start the recruitment process.

Somehow I recently just want to play/get to work a monk (most likely with champion of irori/the enlightened).

    Thus two questions:
1:As that prestige class inherits the fall mechanic from its paladin influence, does that even make sense with with corruption mechanic in place? As in do the characters actually have a good chance resisting? Or is trying to go for the feel, but without the actual class more advisable?

2:What happened to Tar Kuata in general and the central Irori monastery in particular? Since it's roughly on the border to Katapesh I would assume it was destroyed or at least strongly affected.

I'm not going to be forcing you guys to become evil through this campaign - so while the pull and lure will certainly be there, and strong at times, you can absolutely resist it. It will just be difficult. Paladins will, however, have a hard time with this campaign for.. other reasons, though by no means am I disallowing them.

I have absolutely no idea what happened to Tar Kuata.. I'll get back to you on that.

Hard times from an RP point of view are fine (and expected from a literal Road to Damnation), I just don't want to suddenly loose all class abilities. This holds especially since there is no "antipaladin" version of the champion and thus, outside of Gm fiat/homebrew, no way to regain abilities in the deep end. But I'll either way have to wait for the final mythic before actually putting together crunch.

Playing a Paladin in this campaign is basically playing the campaign on Hardcore mode - Of all the classes, you'll have the hardest time keeping your abilities, but simultaenously will be very powerful if you can do so. Lots of evil outsiders in this campaign, so you'll literally be able to go smite happy much of the time.

So its a trade off for being very powerful but walking a very thin line to losing your abilities.

Ah, this seems to be interesting after a long pause from RPGing. How does human cleric originating from Taldor sounds? Concept of a bit more elder person than usually muscles-ripping-off-from-shirt approach

If a paladin does fall, would you let them replace those levels with anti-paladin levels (or a LE version thereof, depending on character)?

I'm going to work up a gruff half orc 'every-man' type of character.

I'm sort of leaning towards a gunslinger( Since guns are more commonplace in RoP, right?), although I also considered fighter/rogue or barbarian/monk probably from 'Port Godless'

I imagine him as jerk with an unshakeable heart of gold facing the road to damnation with a quick dose of sarcasm.

    Damnation be damned!

Funnily enough, I was thinking a half-orc Redeemer paladin, if I can't work out my Razmiran priestly person.

I will withhold my character concept, but I am mulling some options in my mind.

I am definitely going with some sort of oracle. Perhaps an elf ancient lorekeeper of time. It would certainly allow for an interesting character history.

I may be interested. This depends on my time come september and whether I can generate any ideas I would be interested in playing. Definitely keep me updated on this, though if I pass it will because I don't want to over-commit and have my rp in our other campaigns decrease (like your S&S)

As per the Antipaladin description, if you fully embrace your fallen self, you may trade them on a level by level basis - but you become CE, not LE. There will be plenty of.. stuff.. willing to help you along that path. ;)

Firearms are certainly commonplace, as per the Ruins of Pathfinder setting.

I'll be going for the Fetchling and switching to Dervish Dancer Bard as well. I'll probably also picking up 1 or 2 levels of Shadowdancer, mostly because it's very flavorful but Hide in Plain Sight is a nice thing to have.

As far as background goes the basic idea is that she is stuck on Golarion. She crossed over from the Shadowplane at the moment of the Second Darkness together with dozens of others, hoping to find a new home on Golarion. They hadn't prepared for the disasters that would strike the world shortly after and while many of her people fled back to the Plane of Shadow she never made it.
Instead she was captured by Drow slavers, though they soon deemed her too frail for mine duty and sold her to an illicit slave trader operating from Riddleport. This man, in turn, sold her to slavers in Osirion. Eventually her new owners perished as a result of an attack by cultists of Szuriel who sought to free their matron's servitor, Zelishkar of the Bitter Flame amidst the chaos caused by the spawn of Rovagug.
Since that day a few weeks ago she has lived in Osirion, trying to find a way to return home.

I'm still working on her background before coming to Golarion. As for her wanting to go home, that's her initial motivation. Eventually she'll probably realize that what threatens Golarion also threatens her home plane and will fight to defend it.

Definitely interested. I'll hold off on coming up with a full character concept until the actual recruitment thread opens, but I'm really interested in exploring a redemption theme, as well as the consequences of what happens when people who have never had power before suddenly become Mythic.

    Grand Lodge

Guns allowed? Hmm. Maybe I'll get a gunslinger character going.

    Scimotaur wrote:

Not just allowed, they're martial weapons. I kindof want to build a character who takes advantage of that fact, although I'm not sure what or how yet.

Oh hell to the yes. This sounds AWESOME.

Does anyone know if someone is playing Kendra Lorrimor in the Ruins of Pathfinder continuity?

No one is so far no. I'm in one game, and the other is all dwarves. This will be the third. Rob and Crusty probably don't want people playing Paizo published NPCs though.

Ah - good point. I liked the phrase
"When my father died it felt like end of the world. I should have trusted my instincts."

I would like to add that, not only are early firearms martial weapons and are 1/4th the normal price, but advanced firearms are available for purchase or crafting, albeit at their usual prices.

My own character in Rob's Ruins of Pathfinder: Reign of Winter will be aiming for a rifle or double-barreled shotgun wielding Gun Tank himself.

As for the Kendra Lirrimor part.. I'll ask Rob, but I forsee the answer 'probably' being no. However, I'm sure he's perfectly fine with you being a relative of a Paizo Published NPC - Marcellano Kain, my above mentioned Gun Tank, is in fact as so, so I know I'm personally alright with it.

Azharten here, would like to present my elderly cleric of Shelyn.

He is from one of the older games and would require some rebuffing (one bonus feat and trait too much + higher point allocating used). Otherwise I do find him lovable and need to do some tweaking on his background

    I have a question:

The best story feat for my character, background wise, would be Planar Traveler. The only issue is that depending on how you look at it she could actually already have completed the goal it sets, since she was born on the Plane of Shadow and has been on the Material Plane for a long time now.
On the other hand, if you say the Material Plane doesn't qualify for fulfilling the requirement all would be just peachy (RAW vs common sense, just needs to be done beforehand I think).

Now I have a cleric of Sarenrae/Infernal bloodline sorcerer planned! I'm liking where this is taking me... though I would need to think of a proper story feat.

I'll be crafting this character into a Spellslinger/Oracle of Battle hailing from the Mana Wastes, as an Emissary from Alkenstar.

Seems like a good concept, I'm excited about putting it together, woo!

I'm excited to see the inevitable expertly crafted submissions forthcoming.

I'm having a hell of a time settling on anything. Concept may not congeal until the official recruitment thread gets underway, but I'm kinda waffling between three poorly-fleshed out concepts at the moment. I do have the basic crunch for them plotted out:

    • Ulfen Barbarian; likely Invulnerable Rager picking up the World Serpent Totem rage powers (as well as Superstition, Witch Hunter, Spell Sunder--because breaking spells by punching them is hilarity)
    • Hermean Paladin; Vengeance Oath. This concept would require some liberties being taken/approved with Mengkare, so the concept as a whole would likely entirely depend on your take on that.
    • Bladebound/Kensai; likely a Ronin of some sort. Haven't sunk a lot of thought into this concept, honestly. May end up holding it in reserve for a table-top session instead.

I think this is cool. I have an idea for a sin specialist (question can I use sin specialist and where exactly did they come from?) conjurer wizard who is basically doing this just to find more minions that he can control, so that he can be focused on more important things.

Sin Magic comes from Thassilonian magic. I will mention that the Runelord of Greed is alive and well in the Ruins of Pathfinder timeline.
