Advice

I'm at a pretty high level, and got the wish spell.

I want to use wish to redo my initial point buy and my DM said I can if I can phrase it in a way that makes sense in character. I'm having trouble finding an in character way to phrase that. Any ideas?

"I wish for the power to reshape my mind and body into a more suitable form."

I like that. That may actually work, and it's perfectly clear what I want without being too wordy.

Thanks!

Umm, make sure that you state .."into a more suitable form that I alone choose as suitable." Otherwise your GM might state that you can choose your ability scores freely, but decide him/herself that a 'suitable form' would be that of an earthworm.

^ this.

Don't mess around with Wish. Poor Word Choices, and their horrible consequences, are literally the stuff of legends.

I wished for immortality. What I got was turned into a single molecule of sentient, but powerless, helium...

Sovereign Court

I think the OP is saying that he's actually casting the spell himself, in which case the wording is almost immaterial; he's literally granting his own wish.

I have many ways of making this wish turn really bad. One is to let you have such power, but you don't get to control it which you don't know what you are and what you have. Also, what is the most suitable? At which point of view? (Evil laughters...)

The Exchange

"I wish for the body and mind I've always wanted" springs to mind. Although it seems to me that there is a considerable risk of ending up with Megan Fox*'s body due to the vagueness of the verb "wanted".

*Or substitute your favorite attractive female. Or male. Or whatever. I'm not here to judge.

Boosting your stats is on the list of things Wish is explicitly allowed to do without danger. The spell explicitly states that you only risk getting hosed if you try to go beyond the effects listed in the spell description.

So, "I wish to be stronger/more dextrous/have more stamina/smarter/wiser/more charismatic" will work perfectly, unless your GM is a douche.

This isn't even technically an increase in power (since you're not adding points, just shuffling them around). It shouldn't be an issue. "I wish to be more (stat you're raising) at the expense of my (stat you're lowering), (repeat if necessary)."

Quote:
"I wish that my body be permanently endowed with as much [strength/hardiness/dexterity] as this spell is capable of granting."

If you've gotten to the stage of getting Wish, your GM shouldn't be looking to "get" you. Wish-boosted stats have been one of the endgame rewards for a long time.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the original post closely enough. You weren't asking about simple stat gain but stat reassignment. Okay, first, you know that the Retraining rules in Ultimate Campaign allow you to reassign the stat boosts from leveling to different stats, right? Second, I'd guess that you could easily get a species change that might move stat bonuses/penalties around with a single Wish. Anything more than that could get dicey. Have you considered looking into Wishing for information on locations of items (either unattended or in evil hands) that grant sacred (or profane, if that's your bag) bonuses to stats? Such items/locations exist in many campaigns, although they tend to be guarded and quest-worthy. In my game, the Mirror of Perfection in the Holy of Holies of the great temple near the heart of the jungle-enshrouded and monster-fraught lost city of Sto Vengalis will "perfect" anyone reflected in it, if it doesn't annihilate them for being too flawed.

Sounds like your DM didn't have a very good understanding of physics.

So, talk to your GM out of character, explain that you have specific attribute goals that you want as a PLAYER and that your wish will produce the reshaped point buy you want. Then tell him you will word the wish as "I wish to reshape my body to be [stronger], [smarter], [faster]" and the result will be the new stats you agreed to. If he won't agree to that, then you are potentially dealing with a GM who will try to twist your wish for arbitrary reasons.

And if you're dealing with that kind of GM, you probably shouldn't be casting wish in the first place.

Curiously enough, the NPCs run by GMs like that always know how to dodge the dangers of a wish. Which is a shame, because otherwise I could simply wish for my enemy to have the wish instead, and then golf-clap as he turns himself into, say, a helium atom.

Grand Lodge

I prefer to begin my wish with "Oh great and glorious <insert wish granting entity>, may it please you to grant me my wish to...."

then insist on a diplomacy check to shift their attitude to friendly :)

Unfortunately, if you are casting wish yourself, and getting hosed in the process, your character may have some unresolved psychological issues you need to work out.

Then he founds his own religion. For He is risen, He is great, He is powerful ...
