Creatures that can warp the minds of their victims, including the caller in darkness, thought eater, and the bizarre brain mole
Woaw, woaw, woaw, woaw... time out here...
- Caller in Darkness: psionic incorporeal undead creature made from the soul of a tortured victim.
- Brain Mole: psionic rodent which can transmit a disease that drains power points.
- Thought Eater: psionic skeletal avian creature from the Ethereal Plane which feed on people's thoughts... or power points...
See the common link here? Yeah... me too...
Aren't psionic creatures, as well as the whole psionic mecanic, WotC's IP? How did Paizo get its hands on that?
Oh, and don't point to Dreamscarred Press and their psionic books. That doesn't count, because these guys at DP are 3rd-parties, unlike Paizo. 3rd-parties MIGHT have an easier time dealing with exclusive stuff, but Paizo, as a 1st-party, cannot.
Good for them if they did, but... to me, that strikes me as shocking O_O

They were released under the OGL. It takes thirty seconds on google to find them in the old d20 srd.

Oh... nevermind...
Wait, even the rules???
I thought Paizo said that they couldn't make psionic material due to being under WotC's control or something.

Milo v3 |

Paizo didn't make psionic material because DSP already has a monopoly on that market and it would be stupid for them to try and take it. Most the psionic rules are upon the OGL and can be taken by anyone, only things that aren't are basically from Complete Psionic... which no one wanted in the first place.
As for the description, I'm really happy they have a new indian myth themed creature type to fit with occult adventures.

Dragon78 |

I wonder what else made into this book, new kaiju, oni, proteans, azata, hags, drakes, agathions, inevitables, sphinxes, aboleth, azura, kami, qlippoth, lamia, or linnorms.
I am sure there will be dinosaurs, demons, giant vermin of some kind, some 0HD races, creatures from classic literature, golems, terrain/element giants, lovecraftian horrors, and cryptids.

They apparently also have a much easier time publishing stuff that's actually balanced.
And Paizo "psionics" is just yet more vancian magic with a different label stuck in front of it. yawn

I agree that Complete Psionic was a major letdown...
However, I don't think that Paizo "let" DP publish psionic materials. I see it that DP just wanted to convert the whole thing for PF and did it. Paizo? I could have sworn that I've read an answer saying that they didn't have plans for psionics... at all...
You could say that DP beat them to it, but I say that Paizo never intended to make psionic materials. Beside... good luck including THIS into Golarion.
It was easy for WotC's Eberron due to Sarlona and the Kalashtars, but in Golarion? Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure...
"Occult" is very easy, because the world's cultures make it so. Same goes with alchemy, eidolons and firearms. Psionics however? No idea where to even introduce them if it was the case.
Then again people... Occult Adventures has the Kineticist... that can become a telekineticist with blasts, flying and even a "mind blade" using the Kinetic Blade talent.

It's really really easy to find places for psionics in golarion... since the original golarion had psionics. One of my friends even showed my this bit of pre-PF golarion fluff where the first psi-crystals were attuned to half-elves and half-elves possess the ability to change the colour of any crystal they touch.
Half-elves have always had an affinity for crystals and faceted gemstones, seeing in them a beautiful and poetic reflection of their own multifaceted character and identity, one that is easily obscured or missed until careful work reveals it. A common exhortation half-elves use with one another is to “polish your diamond,” meaning to refine, sharpen, and polish their best qualities that lie within. Beyond simply their aesthetic appreciation for crystals, some half-elves seem to show an almost supernatural connection, being able to induce minor prestidigitation-like effects in crystals they touch, causing the crystals to glow or change color or even dance about in the air. It was while researching this strange resonance that a pair of psionically endowed half-elves, Samelu Sonshima of Vudra and Alysande Morinel of Taldor, awakened the first psicrystals.

Lords of Madness, I believe - that chapter was written by our own James Jacobs. ^_^

I am sure that the dream dragon is one of the esoteric dragons but what could be the names of the others. Maybe astral, chakra, ethereal, esper, psychic, mind, spirit, life, nature, arcane, sacred, akashic, mystic, chi/ki, blood, bone, aether, quintessence, axiom, lore, and/or chaos.
I'd love to see a Nightmare Dragon, though I suspect the Dream Dragon is as close as we'll get.

I think I've seen wishes for Greys on the forums before, but the usual response was that Derro were more or less the Golarion equivalent of Greys.
That gives me little more hope for Ravid and Drop Bears, other creatures they would never do.
Seeing Deep ones, Almiraj and Greys appear, nothing is sertain.
Of course i'm wrong and my wish (the ravid) is the only thing that doesn't appear ever...
I was fine with Greys being Derro and Skum being Deep ones, but nothing comes even close to a ravid in behavior and appearance.

So, I haven't been keeping up with the thread. Has anyone guessed/wished for grays? That seems so far out of left field. It's awesome.
I had them on my wish list actually (a page or so back). I was surprise as hell we're actually getting them! :)
I hope they work the whole abduction angle into it! "Probed" could be a new "condition". :)

I don't think they put in Greys because you wished for them so late, the bestiary 5 was probably already further before your wish.
I remember many people wishing for greys early in this topic.
But then again, everything sciencefiction and lovecrafian wished for in this topic will probably end up in bestiary 5.
And where is all this artwork for bestiary 5 where people are talking about, can't find any of it.

Yeah, I don't think me wishing for them about a week ago made them happen- Just a lucky coincidence. :)
EDIT: You can find the artwork, under the Paizo blog announcements that came out in the last 24.
EDIT my EDIT: Milo beat me to it, with a proper link.

Thanks!
The Dream Dragon looks stunning, finally a dragon I really like the art from, really hope the other dragons look 100% different, I really didn't like the Space Dragons from the Bestiary 4 because they were the same spare for colors.
Hsigo is perfect.
Grey is fun, one of the only sciencefiction creatuers I can see in a fantasy world.
Wood Colossus is stunning, best colossus by far.
That little guy with corns is Okish I guess, have to find out more about them, but if that is the only Native American monster that made it into the book I would be disappointed, so much more suiting Natives monsters out there.
The sciencefiction dude is something I really don't dig and really dislike.
But that dream dragon, by far my favorite already!

Ooh ok, then I agree with you!
What do they look like in mythology then?
EDIT: Oh, I see now on google, the real Annunaki are pretty awesome btw, never heard of them before but I will add them to my project, this SF thing however, isn't really the way they look on google.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Just out of curiosity, why is everyone so excited for the ravid?
Dragons made of pure life that overcharges the environment into becoming alive, and who are dare devils who fly next to stars, wait before they go supernova and then try to escape at the last moment... they're pretty cool.

Myth Lord |

It's not their boring appearance that I like, I like their ability to give life to inanimate objects, but I found a mythology creature (Tatty Bogle, the Scottish Scarecrow) that can do the same.
But since pathfinder already has a scarecrow, I would be happy with the Ravid.
Metalmaster-like creature would also be cool
And will we finally get teh Nekomata?
