I imagine you can't answer because it would be an unannounced product, but I really enjoyed Death's Heretic. Any chance we'll get to see more of Salim?

Thanks, Samnell! And yeah, there's definitely more Salim in the works... the sequel is already more than halfway finished, and takes Salim to Kaer Maga. I can't really say much more about it yet, though. :)

Squee!

Good day, James.

I've often wondered about Mengkare's relationship with the church of Aroden. He started his grand experiement when Aroden was prophesized to return and lead humanity to a golden age; it takes some chutzpah -- even for a gold dragon -- to decide to improve the species in light of that promise.

How has Mengkare reacted to the news of Aroden's death?

Hi Mr. Sutter!

3. Do you know of any plans to stat up the Eldest with the advent of the Mythic Rules?

There are, in a way, "Selenites" on Golarion's moon. It describes pygmy, insectoid creatures that match the description of a Selenite.

Good Morning, James;

Some Kaer Maga curiosity today;

As you envision the ditrict of Bis, do you see the collapsed section as running from the (missing) inner wall of the ring all the way to the outer wall, or does some thickness (with internal corridors and chambers) remain between the open interior and the outside world?

Many thanks.

What is your favorite eldest?

I'm building a backstory for a character that involves the Hermean Project (is there a more official name?) and I had a question.

In the ISWG it's made pretty clear that Mengkare's design is pretty humanocentric; It's almost entirely human breeding stock with the occasional elf or two.

While I think it'd be obvious that someone born on the island with an Infernal or Abyssal heritage would be cast out almost immediately, how would Mengkare/Council of Enlightenment feel about someone born with Celestial blood (an Aasimar).

*For the sake of the example let us assume the this individual's parents passed the screening and their "Celestial-bloodedness" was missed.

Hey Valantrix1! I'm glad your players are enjoying the novels. :)

If you buy an electronic version of any of the novels from us, you should get both a PDF (which should open in Adobe Reader) and an ePub which works with eReaders. If you have any problems with the files, just ping Customer Service and we'll either figure out a solution or refund your money. But they *should* work just fine! Thanks for giving the line a shot!

First off, I think well-aged gold dragons are probably MADE of chutzpah... I mean, you get that much power and a reputation for always doing the right thing, of COURSE it's going to go to your head.

Really, though... I imagine Aroden's death has just strengthened Mengkare's resolve. If even the GOD of humanity can't follow through on his promises, how can we expect the rank and file humans to live up to their full potential without some serious guidance?

3. Do you know of any plans to stat up the Eldest with the advent of the Mythic Rules?

1) Yay! Thanks, MeanDM! That book is definitely my favorite thing I've ever written, and it's no secret that the novel line is my baby. Watching it grow is immensely satisfying.

2) In terms of cannon-checking, most of the back-and-forth between me and the authors happens early on, as I help them learn about Golarion and focus in on the books and sections they'll need to read to make a given story work. Once a pitch is accepted, I have authors outline their novels, and then I go through them and point out any continuity problems. Once those are fixed, I put the outlines in front of Erik, Wes, and Jacobs, and we go through them together, pointing out any more problems. After that, the authors write the books... and then the first pass I take through them is a development pass, where I'm double-checking all the rules/continuity bits (as well as doing a normal editor's work of pointing out story holes, areas for improvement, etc.). And that's about it! The process is mainly just me sitting at a desk reading manuscripts and focusing REALLY HARD on making sure the continuity is correct. :D

3) Nope! And really, while I may get overruled, I'm in the camp that prefers not to see gods and god-like beings statted up. I'd much rather never know how many hit points someone like the Eldest has, as a GM can always fudge those for his or her own game, and it ruins the mystery for me to see them quantified like that. That said, I know that other staffers here think statting up gods is the coolest thing ever, so it'll probably happen eventually! But before we do, I have some plans of my own for the Eldest....

Hi James. I have read and own most of the pathfinder tale novels, and with the exception of your book and the winter witch, i hated all the main characters. I'm not a great fan of the "anti-heros". 2) The only one currently on my desk is the Caulborn, but that of course has the advantage of sentiment. :)

3) Jamestopia was actually SUNDERED several years ago when we moved buildings! In the new building, Jacobs sits in an office about 15 feet away, while I sit in the Editorial Pit (aka cube farm) with the developers and editors. It was sad to not be right next to him anymore, but as our respective roles have grown and changed, it just makes sense. He's still close enough that I can hear him, though--especially the "HA!" whenever I instant-message him something funny. :D

4) Grippli or Tengu.

5) Nope! Vudra might have a lot of psychic stuff going on, but it's certainly not the only place where it can be found. In the same way that summoners and cavaliers can be found all across Golarion, I suspect there are psychics walking Avistan and Garund even now...

1) It's true! Details here: The Wizard's Mask

2) I've noticed that trend as well, and I feel like it's a bad thing. Good editors help writers immensely, and I think that for the writer to decide that he or she is now "too big for editing" is a recipe for a sharp decrease in quality. Being on the receiving end of editing is hard, and it's certainly important to find an editor who's up to your standards, but an editor that never pushes an author is one who isn't really earning his or her keep, in my opinion.

For me, I'm working solely with work-for-hire authors these days, which means that there's never any question that Paizo's needs come first. A writer who balks at being edited doesn't work for me for very long, and I'd much rather have a less famous author who's easy to work with than a big name who isn't. How much editing I do to a given work is determined by the quality of the work. That said, I've certainly felt that fear of "Oh god, please don't let Author X freak out about this change...", especially if it's somebody who's big enough that they're doing the job more as a favor than as a "job"...

I'm not sure I'm following the question entirely--Kaer Maga is a hard place to describe--but if you mean The Warren, then yeah, the break extends all the way through the ring of stone. It's not a smooth break by any means--partially demolished sections of the ring certainly jut out into the gap--but the shantytown covers and incorporate them. I imagine half-broken stone chambers and things form the foundations of the district, as well as acting as thieves' tunnels and lairs, etc. Does that help?

I imagine that Mengkare is probably cool with slipping in the occasional aasimar to help keep things fresh and on the road to perfection, but anything more than once in a great while would probably be seen as overly contaminating the experiment. After all, he's working on perfecting *humanity*, and using a bunch of angels (who are already, by some definitions, perfect) is awfully close to cheating!

Actually, I was thinking about Bis: from City of Strangers

Quote:
In the southwesternmost district of the city, called Bis, the multi-floored structure found in other Ring districts long ago fell and gave way to a single cavernous space, so vast that huddled but freestanding buildings rise several stories into the gloomy, foggy air. Yet it is not the crowded streets or the shocking amount of airspace ithin the chamber that makes newcomers stop short, but rather the fact that the people of Kaer Maga have literally climbed the walls to create more room for themselves, building fresh or repairing outcropping ledges of old masonry to line the chamber with eight stories of towering cliff dwellings.

So, I guess I am asking if the cliff-dwellings and balconies are right on the inner surface of the outer wall of the Ring, or if in some places, portions of the original corridors and/or rooms survive?

Many thanks, James.
