Thinking about running a PbP

Recruitment

Lets put this to a vote. From now untill sunday, February 10th, at noon zulu, that is, seven am, eastern time. Or until i get ten for eight votes towards one choice.
1. Land
2. Sea
Which will it be?

While (2) would be neat to try out, I gotta go with (1).

Keep in mind, I would do a nautical game after the land one.

Dark Archive

I'm also voting for Land(1). If it goes that way, I've got a Stonelord I'll roll out.

Adeptus, do you mean that the land party would wind up at sea, or that you'd start a second campaign at sea?

The latter.

i'm gonna vote for land, it'd be cool to do some classic dwarven things, dungeoneering, giant fighting, things of that sort. I'd probably end up with a foehammer fighter

I'd be down with either, though I was really gearing up for the sea adventure... Had curses picked out and everything....

For the land, I'll probably be playing my Dwarven monk. Can I use new rolls, since I used the others for Choppen, or should I just stick with those?

Well, since of my three salty dwarves, two have said landlubbing be preferred, and the third is carefree, I shall close this early, and put up a proper recruitment thread for the Varisia based campaign in the morning. As long as I get access to the Mac puter.

i'll be out of town this weekend, but i'm eager to see the thread when i get back on monday

Dark Archive

I'll get to work statting out a Stonelord, then. Thanks boss.

Sorry, blanc. Forgot to answer your question. Either/or is the answer.

Alright, then, here are the new rolls...

Dwarfs rule: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 1) = 11
Dwarfs rule: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 6) = 16
Dwarfs rule: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 2) = 17
Dwarfs rule: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 2) = 12
Dwarfs rule: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 3) = 18
Dwarfs rule: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 3) = 12

Rerolls 1: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
Reroll 6: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Second reroll 6: 1d6 ⇒ 5

So, that's... 14, 14, 15, 10, 15, 14. Still nothing great, but more to work with, at least. I'll put Korinil together and have him ready for the new thread.

5d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 6, 6) = 20 x10= 200 gp, a bit over the average, alright.

Thinking I'm gonna have this dwarf here use duel hammers

likely a warhammer and lighthammer at first, and eventually growing to double warhammers once his attack bonus counters the penalty.

Twilsemail, where is the stonelord from?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Advanced Race Guide

Yeah, that's in the mail. Spent my tax return on Paizo stuff and my father-in-law heart surgery

I was thinking about ranger, but maybe I should go with cleric, or even wizard?

We seem to have some front line dwarves in the making. Just a thought

maybe go with a ranger specializing in ranged combat?

then again I'm certainly not opposed to a cleric to keep our front line alive.

Whatever you guys want. Party balance is not required.

I'll mull it over tonite...see what tomorrow brings.

You guys may want a face though.

I shall go for a dwarf bard. Drunken Dwarf songs filling the halls of the dwarf lords.

Woot! I'll be taking the trait "Zest for Battle" either way, so a +1 to damage while under morale bonus will come in handy...

As long as you cite sources for those.

Voting land.

Ill create a pc this weekend. Ill go some sort of caster if we dont have one yet.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 4) = 21 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 1) = 9(reroll 2)2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 6) = 16(reroll 1)1d6 ⇒ 6 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 4) = 17(reroll 1)1d6 ⇒ 2 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 5) = 18 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 2) = 11 = 9

17, 17, 16, 15, 15, 9

Yep keeping. Thinking wizard or cleric...

TrueRepentance here.

Haven't got a full character or anything but just posting alias.

Feruin the Dwarf Wizard

No worries!

I think I'll stick with my original plan of ranger. If it will make things easier, I can stick with Core ranger rather than the Spell-less version.

I hope to finish him up once we get some more info on the campaign. Thanks for the opportunity, AT!!

DM, I'm looking at doing the Archivist Archetype on my bard (APG pg 81). If you look through it, it is kind of confusing. Archivists essentially give up versatile performance and well versed to gain their other abilities earlier with a few extra bonuses.

Mainly my question is in regards to the Lore Master. RAW it changes Lore Master significantly. However, according to this post, the RAI was that it was suppose to be identical just gained at an earlier level.

If you are ok with the RAI, then I will go with the archivist archetype, otherwise I will make just a normal bard.

He is going to have perform oratory and perform sing. He shall enthrall with the tales of the Piliad and other epics. Then when he's drunk he sings. He shall also make up a theme song for the party. "We're Dwarves! We're Dwarves in Caves!"

Archivist is in the APG. What is RAW and RAI?

I believe RAW is Ruled As Written, as opposed to RAI being Ruled as Intended.

Sometimes things are worded unclear, or don't work the way they were meant to due to some weird rule combination somewhere that was overlooked. In cases such as this, it falls to the GM to decide whether to rule the ability/spell/feat/whatever as it was written, with all the side effects or whatnot, or to rule it as it was obviously intended to be used.

As Loup Blanc said. Some GMs/players are anal about the rules and that they should be taken exactly as they are written, even though the true intent or an obvious mistake is there. For example, the Bandit archetype for the rogue in Ultimate Combat says that two abilities replace uncanny dodge, when it is obvious the second ability was suppose to replace improved uncanny dodge. That one is easy, other instances there are heated debates on whether to play by the intended rules, or the unclear rules that are printed.

Ultimately, I'm asking if it's ok to assume the Archivists Lore Master ability functions the same as normal, but is just gained at an earlier level.

I thought you were asking about the PrC Lore Master. Go with RAI for now. I don't have my books with me this weekend.

Here is the new recruitment thread, the official one.
