New Pathfinder Gamer with question: Dragonborn?

I'm a 4e D&D player coming over to Pathfinder and was curious if pathfinder has any race that is like the dragonborn of D&D? Also the reason I'm probably going to convert fully to Pathfinder is that I'm annoyed that wizards are already creating a new version of D&D and I feel like they didn't do enough for 4e. With that's said there isn't a "Pathfinder Next" in the works is there? Lastly I'm extremely excited about the upcoming Pathfinder MMORPG as finding RPG groups in my area can be extremely difficult. Thanks for your responses!

You do realize that Pathfinder Online is coming out somewhere in 2015?

Welcome.

At the moment, the closest would be nagaji. You can also, with GMs permission and oversight, use race building rules to create dragonborn directly.

As far as we know there isn't and won't be for a long time. Paizo has different publishing model than Wizards, focusing on steady revenue from Adventure Paths and accessories while WotC profited the most from the core rulebooks, which meant that to show steady profit to their corporate overlords they have to issue a new game (or at least a major revision) every few years. For Paizo, their corporate overlords are Lisa and Vic and while they can be terrible in their Lawful Evil glory they are gamers and industry insiders.

Don't hold your breath. It's still in early phase of production. Recent (successful) kickstarter was done to acquire additional funds that will allow making the game faster than it would be actually done without that million. It cut a year or something like that from the schedule but it's still far away.

To find players in your area you may want to check out Pathfinder Society and contact the Venture Captain in your area.

If you can convince your DM to let you use 3rd party sources, The closest Dragonborn expy with with a decent amount of fluff material are probably the Dragonkin from the Open Design/Kobold Press Midgard campaign setting.

The Advanced Race Guide, in the race builder section, also has an example race built with the system known as Wyvaren, although it's only presented as a sample.

Also, Saurian if the GM allows it (3rd party). I would recomed building your own with the Advanced race guide.

Yes I'm aware it's a distant thing to look forward to, as an avid Mmoer I'm used to it lol.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I may just check out some of the exotic races in pathfinder and get a truly fresh start. I will check out the pathfinder society and again thanks for that tip.

There is another 3rd party option for something like the dragon born, the Super Genius Games Koldemar which are a beefed up (pc level) version of the Kobolds. In particular one alternate racial trait makes them medium creatures. At least for my money, the Koldemar in this book are as close to Dragon Born as you are likely to get.

As for a new version of Pathfinder, it is certainly a long way off. Mostly because PFRPG is a secondary product for paizo. It is there to support the Adventure path and campaign setting line, not the other way around. Rulebooks are not their primary source of income. So long as the APs are selling well, and they dont have trouble with the kind of stories they want to tell, we wont get a new version. According to paizo brass a new version of pathfinder is so far outside of their scope right now it isnt even on their longterm plans yet.

Take your 4e twaddle back to where you come from!

Just kidding. I played a dragonborn for 8 levels. :)

If you are looking for a race that is similar to 4E dragonborn, try the Nagaji from the Advanced Race Guide. They even have the same stat bonuses (Str and Cha) as dragonborn did in the first PHB. The only important feature they lack is a breath weapon -- although they can spit venom with a feat.

Here's a rough conversion I threw together after the ARG release, if you want an idea of the general ballpark. You and your GM will of course have to adjust to taste.

Dragonborn (13 RP)
Dragon Type - 2 RP
+2 Str, +2 Cha, -2 Dex - 0 RP
Medium Size - 0 RP
30 ft. base speed - 0 RP
Languages - Standard (Common, Draconic) 0 RP
Senses - darkvision 60 ft. -- RP (included in Dragon type)
+2 racial bonus to Perception checks - 2 RP
+1 natural AC - 2 RP
Immune to sleep effects, +2 racial bonus to saves vs. paralysis effects - 2 RP
Resist 10 to one energy type (acid, cold, electricity, or fire) - 2 RP
Breath Weapon (Su): 1/day, pick either 15 ft. cone or 30 ft. line at character creation, 1d6 + 1d6/5 class lvl of the same energy type as your resist, Ref DC 10 + 1/2 HD + Con mod for half damage - 3 RP

A stricter conversion would have to give skill bonuses to Intimidate and Knowledge (history) rather than Perception, but that pushes it up to 15 RP, which might be a bit much for some games, but YMMV.

Dragon type has immunity to sleep and paralysis built-in but costs 10 RP.

Silver Crusade

to be honest when i came hear i was hoping more for info on 3.5 edition Dragonborn...As in the Awesome race of Humanoid Dragon/Dragonhunters who where given an interesting history before 4E Retconned them into oblivion...That for me was a major factor than tunred me off of 4E.

@ Kvantum: how did you get the breath weapon, for what you & how it reads in the book it would work out to be a (4RP) ability that works as fallows

either a 15ft. cone or 20ft. line, deals 3d6 points of dmg with a Ref save DC 10+1/2 HD + Con Mod. for half dmaage.

or did I miss something in the book you used? which has been known to happen more than I care to admit.

My Dracofolk. I designed these for my game. They have been heavily playtested. I haven't put in the Racial Feats yet...

Breath costs 1 RP and inflicts 1d6 points of damage. Each additional RP spent may increase damage by 1d6 or buy some other improvement. It does not give an option for scaling normally, regretfully so the GM allowing scaling damage would have to determine its worth ad hoc.

I saw this on the Pathfinder Database web site a while back and liked it. it didn't seem to over powered.

Dragonborn Racial Traits
+2 Strength, +2 Charisma, -2 Dexterity: Dragonborn are powerful and regal, but somewhat clumsy.

Medium Size: Dragonborn medium sized creatures and have no special bonuses based on size.

Normal Speed: Dragonborn have a base speed of 30 ft.

Breath Weapon: Dragonborn can use a breath weapon three times per day. The breath weapon is a line with a range of 10 feet plus 5 feet per Hit Die after the first, to a maximum of 100 feet. It inflicts 1d6 damage plus 1d6 per 3 HD the Dragonborn possesses. This damage may be acid, cold, electricity, or fire; the specific type is chosen at creation and cannot be changed afterward.

Draconic Heratige: Dragonborn count as Dragons for the purposes of effects that target Type.

Educated: Dragonborn get a +2 racial bonus to Knowledge (History) checks.

Frightful Presence: Dragonborn get a +2 bonus to Intimidate checks.

Languages: Dragonborn begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Dragonborn with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Dwarven, Elven, Gnome, Halfling, and Orc.

Now I know it gives no mention of a save for the breath weapon but i can see using a DC 10+1/2 HD+ Con mod for that. And if the scaling damage for the breath weapon makes you cringe, I would try and make a few racial feats that up the strength of the breath weapon much like the racial drow magic feats.
