Monk bonus feats and regular feats prerequisites

Rules Questions

One of my players has built a Zen Archer lvl 1 with Precise Shot and Rapid Shot.
One of those feats is his bonus Monk feat for a Zen Archer and the other is his lvl 1 character feat.

I was under the impression that prerequisite of Point-Blank Shot was only waved for the Monk Bonus Feat selections, but the prerequisites for the same feats if taken as a regular feat are still required.

However I can't find anything clarification.

Can I get an official response or a link to such a response so I can get this resolved correctly?

Getting an official response is important as my group is taking turns running mods for the group and use the official rules as our main call.

Thanks

Okay correction he is using his Flurry of Blows ability with arrows not Rapid Shot, so while the point is moot for this example I would still love to know the answer to the over all question about taking bonus Monk feats as regular feats and prerequisites.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

You only ignore the prereqs when taking them as monk bonus feats, not from your normal hit dice based feats (the ones you get at level 1, 3, 5, etc).

Also, Rapid Shot is a bit of a waste for a Zen Archer since it can't be used with Flurry, which is already providing you the extra shot at the same penalty....

A good GM will tell his Zen Archer PC that Rapid Shot and Manyshot are a complete waste for this character. If he/she has never played a Zen Archer he/she may not be aware of this.

Yeah, make sure the player really knows what they are doing and let them retrain Rapid Shot if not. There are a couple uses for it that I can see. The first would be to eventually get Improved Snap Shot. Even then the player is wasting two feats (Rapid Shot and Snap Shot) just to increase their threatened area. They could also plan to multiclass and won't actually be flurrying in the long run.

improved snap shot is also a waist, combat patrol with combat reflex would achieve the same, only better as BAB gets higher

I built a 10th level character, Zen Archer / Qinggong 5, Kinslayer 5. I don't ever use Flurry. Instead, I took Rapid Shot and Manyshot with my Monk feats, then used my leveling feats to increase my Inquisitor side. If you plan on multiclassing then Rapid Shot and Manyshot are not useless Monk feats, though for a pure Monk, yeah.

Is this true? Normally you don't threaten with a ranged weapon and unlike snap shot combat patrol doesn't state ranged weapon.

Your 1st level one can't ignore pre-reqs.

Haven't looked into the Combat Patrol feat yet, but the Monk does get a class feature that allows them to threaten with a bow - it's reflexive shot or something and comes on at about 9th level... Snap Shot & Improved also let you threaten with a ranged weapon.

Activating Combat Patrol for one round takes a full-round action, which makes it rather weak compared to Improved Snap Shot, in my opinion.
