The Klocke minis are funded! The next stretch goal has been revealed. It's a combo goal. Townsfolk minis added to the vampire pledge, and a wicked miniatures case for 25 bucks available to every one.
I think this goal puts the vampire pledge at 1 dollar per mini.
Less than, in fact.
Best. Deal. Ever.

Clear red/orangey fire elementals. Spiffy.

I have some questions that probably are best in their own thread but ...
I haven't painted minis in probably 20 years. I am 100% prepainted plastic minis these days, but these bones have me really intrigued!
How easy are they to paint? Do you need to prime or otherwise prepare them or can you just jump in and start painting? Any paints you would recommend for these? I would assume Reaper has paints that are well suited for painting these?
i just might need to take the plunge and toss some gold into this kickstarter!

Well I haven't painted any of the Bones Series yet, but a quick google search gave them great reviews for painting.

I've painted a bunch of the existing bones - kobolds, orcs, and gnolls. The only prep I did was to wash them in warm soapy water (just in case there was dust or mold release agent still on the mini). No priming required.
To paint them I used regular reaper msp paints and the reaper hd paints. I didn't water the base coat down at all, and then painted the remaining coats as normal (thinned down a bit with water).
Because I'm a novice painter, I've been speed painting and dipping my bones minis in furniture stain at the end. They turned out fine for tabletop quality. The stain worked the same as it does with regular hard plastic minis. They've been banging around in my game bag with no issues.
If you are on the fence, my suggestion is to see if your FLGS has any of the existing bones in stock, they cost between a dollar to three dollars. Grab one and see if you like them.
If you do go for the kickstarter, and you need new paints, there are starter paint sets available as part of it for something like 45% of the retail price (18 bucks for 12 paints).

Things bumping around in my head:
If you get the vampire set (with all bonus miniatures, including the shown but not reached yet fire elementals) and you got each of the miniature options shown (2 fire giants, 2 frost giants, all 3 dragons, ogre/ettin/gnoll, and 20 orcs), you would currently end up paying $180 for 136 miniatures (which averages out to be about $1.32 per miniature).
So far with 83 unique models (with duplicates of kobolds, rats, goblins, zombies, skeletons, and orcs).
Just looking to pick up some armies. Go with Ghast Level and add the orcpocalypse to it. For $40 ($15 ghast level + $25 option) you'll get:
12 kobolds (4 copies of 3 molds)
12 dire rats (4 copies of 3 molds)
12 goblins (4 copies of 3 molds)
20 orcs (4 copies of 5 molds)
Total of 56 miniatures for $40, coming out to be about $0.71 per miniature).
And with the vampire level, you can add an extra $15 and get another ghast level dungeon pack (one comes with the vampire) if you want even more kobolds, rats, and goblins.
==============================
The frost giant in that link looks like it would work for a huge giant given its relative mass to the ogre and ettin.

BTW, any ides on where someone could get some bases for these things?
There are a number of companies that make bases.... depends on what you want - Wood, Plastic, or a plain old US nickle

Such as?
I am looking for non-standard sized bases at the time... so far I didn't exactly find many suppliers for 1/2", 3", 4", 6" and 8" bases.
Bonus cookies if you come up with a supplier that ships to Europe.

I'd want the standard round, black plastic bases to match all the D&D and Pathfinder pre-painted plastic minis out there.

I'd actually recommend getting some of these:
http://www.thewarstore.com/product64617.htm.a picture of them is at http://wargamesfoundry.com/_images/thumbs/FB026_1278504660_340x223.png)
They're square, not round, but they're sunk down, meaning that you can easily glue a broccoli-base into it, and then use pumice gel (such as http://www.thewarstore.com/product43215.html) to cover the broccoli and leave you with a base you can do... whatever you want with.
I've been doing this with my metal DHL minis and it works really well.

Crap! I was really hoping to pick up some stuff from them at Gencon. i guess I can just put an order together online, but that was one of my favorite stops last time I went. So many minis O.o;

I'm very interested in this project since the minis look great and the deal just gets better and better. However, I'm hesitant because I've never painted minis before. To all the people with experience, is it something beginners can pick up? I'm no artist (as my players have told me time and again).
I see that paint sets are offered as an option. If i picked up the basic set paints along with my minis could I make a go of it? Some of the figures look very complicated, but I guess I could start with the rats.
Thoughts? Experiences?

Short Historian, like you have no experience in painting miniatures. However, my wife and I plan to take this oppurtunity to paint a lot pf miniatures and become capable at painting. We're both naturally artistically inclined so it may be easier for us. We've watched YouTube videos and read guides to understand the processes of painting from priming, applying a base coat, washing and drybrushing. We're going to start with the skeletons and less detailed monsters and slowly work through them to become better so we can tackle the more complicated models. At $100 for curently 105 Bones miniatures, its a steal.

There are a lot of really good tutorials out there for new painters. I'm terrible at art stuff and I can knock out a mini that looks better than the wotc prepaints.
