It's absolutely a magical girlfriend anime and not a harem one. Despite Urd's efforts.

And Keiichi, like Tenchi, is a good enough guy that it actually makes sense.

MMMm...Good point, TOZ.

Still can only barely stand Tenchi Muyo, though.

Oh, Anime.

Bad Guy: "The plan I've had all along is the plan you knew was my plan from the beginning, because I said it, like, five minutes ago!"

Good Guys: "Wh-WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT~? We could never have guessed that, in secret, the very thing we knew what was true was, in fact, true!"

Bad Guy: "Muwahahah! By telling everyone my plan from the beginning, I hid it so well that you're all surprised!"

I just read all of that in the voice of Mojo Jojo. Well done Tacticslion you made several people look at me strangely for laughing so hard and suddenly.

Still gonna say I prefer Chobits when t comes to magical girlfriends but that is just due to Hideki's oh so amusing reactions.

The Wise Wolf of Yoitsu is best magical girlfriend.

Feh 'magical annoying business partner' more like. Good series though, I very much enjoyed the whole caper involving the crooked merchant and the armor.

Assassination Classroom is turning out to be an interesting if very odd series so far. Kind of surreal, evil alien thing blows up the moon and then decided to teach a class of students. If they don't succeed in killing their teacher by the end of the year he is going to do to the earth what he did to the moon.

Ah, Chobits. So polarizing. I... thought it was mostly pretty sweet (and that Hideki was amazingly stupid for his inability to have an "in my head" dialogue*). I was a bit "meh" on the anime's ending, and the bad guys kind of came from nowhere, but I enjoyed it.

* So, in other words, anime working as intended! :)

I have not see this thing. I take it that it comes recommended? Is it Crunchy Roll?

Spice and wolf is not on crunchy roll far as I can tell, but Hulu has it in both sub and dub if you are willing to sit through the commercials to see it there.
I very much enjoyed it, its about a merchant that ends up lumbered with a bored god as a traveling companion. Holo the wise wolf, they partake in mercantile adventures.

Maybe Assassination Classroom will have a better ending than the previous "kill your classmates" anime.

I really didn't like the "sex is bad" aspect of chobits. But someone I love swears by the series.

which was?

Grand Lodge

Akuma no Riddle. Sorry, had to google as my brain refused to recall anything other than Class Black. The ending kind of disappointed me.

I usually only lurk this thread, but I'll chime in to praise Assassination Classroom: while I'm not watching the anime (the studio that animates it is uuuuuugh, even if I heard they're doing a better job than usual this time. That's not saying much tough <.<), it's been some time since I've been reading the manga.

As the premise, there's absolutely no classmate-killing (as of chapter 128, at least, but there's no friend-murdering in sight luckily): the only objective is Korosensei. While I was a little skeptical about it at first (the premise was crazy-enough, but I worried it would have fallen flat on its face), it has been very good for now : it has an overall great execution, good pacing, and almost everyone in the class gets his/her time to shine and backstory explored. If they manage (read: have enough time/money) to do that in the anime, I can vouch that it will turn out really cool. ^.^

I finally watched Kinos Journey. I both like and dislike it at the same time if you can figure that out. Hmmm... I guess I like that it fits together perfectly like a well made piece of artwork showing us this impossible and insane set of countries. And then there is Kino herself who really isn't anything like me... well other than the fact that we are both skilled with a handgun, she is far better than I am, I admit. I would actually dislike staying only three days at a place. Speaking of dislike... I find the countries depicted as horrible mostly and wonder at the impossibility of the whole place. People ... people aren't as bad or as single minded as they seem to think. The episodes leave me feeling depressed.

Saw an episode. It was pretty fun.

I'm glad you saw it and I appreciate your thoughts. IM sorry it wasn't a better fit for you.

Hell Girl time?

I have seen a few episodes of Hell Girl at an anime convention... it was creepy. I love the idea of sending really bad people to hell, it horrifies me to think the one who needs help has to go there as well.

Hell Girl starts good and gets better, when crazies start sending pretty nice people to hell.

Wait... so she doesn't screen these people to see if they really need help?!

Aranna wrote:

nope

the desire for revenge is more important than the actual justification behind it. That is the main reason for the "2 Graves" price tag

She has nothing to do with helping people.

That's the thing about Japanese ghost stories. They are never pretty and sometimes bad things just happen because you crossed the wrong path.

I would say that's a bit unfair.

There are a couple of redemption episodes, though they are few and far between. There is also the CRAAAAAAAZY sorta kinda redemption episode.

Considering this is coming from a culture that used to have the death penalty for going over your superior's head to report his abuses (for both the accuser and the accused),it does sound like it could be a very different cultural thing.

I don't want to spoil Hell Girl but the revenge system isn't for any sort of cosmic balance or righting of wrongs, it's all about hate, desperation and anguish. And the series does more than just play out revenge fantasies for the viewers.

Depends heavily upon the episode.

I truly loved the second seasons more episodic approach. Some had damn good reasons to contact ai, others did not.

I have Hell Girl in my Crunchyroll queue. I'll have to watch that soon. I'm binge watching Cowboy Bebob since I haven't seen it in awhile and I'm thinking about doing a SAO 1 and 2 marathon.

Tomorrow, I need to call Netflix and talk to them- I've just sent back the same Mobile Suit Zeta disc twice because it was cracked all the way through when I received it. This is on top of pretty much every other disc in the series so far coming to me obviously damaged. I've run into this problem with quite a few of the Sunrise Bandai discs (since they aren't in distribution anymore, figuring there's only so many copies and they can't be replaced) but a QC check would be nice before they shipped it off.

It's monstrously unfair.

But the point of the HG setup isn't to punish the wicked, it's to give people an outlet for their hate and desperation (or more probably, to capitalize on their hate and desperation). It punishes both parties equally. We all love to see a&!@#$$&s get their comeuppance and one can absolutely sympathize with some of the victims but equally the victim might be some innocent person who is wrongfully accused of some heinous crime or the accuser some creepy character who was turned down by the woman he is obsesses with; the HG system doesn't care.

Not to mention I'm unconvinced that eternal torture is a proper fate for anyone no matter how evil. The HG system allows people to send someone to Hell at the expense of their own soul, which is really tells you something about it. HG isn't a nice or comforting show. It has its tender moments and there is a lot of sympathy to be had for various characters but it's still about monstrous things happening to people willy-nilly, generally s!@~ty situations, and bad good choices.

Aye, Hell Girl is not a pleasant show by any means.

Nonsense.

The show is wonderful.

I didn't mean in regards to quality. I meant in regards to what happens to characters in it.

I liked the girl who was obsessed with her neighbor. That was a dark love story.

...I just realized I forgot to return the Ghost in the Shell DVDs to my friend. Then again, I still need to watch them.

Man, I really love Urd as a character - sensuous, sexy, voluptuous, aggressive, and seductive... and entirely dedicated to ensuring her younger, sweet sister has a happy life. Such a rare combination of traits; usually her character would be selfish or attempting to seduce the lead guy or something. Nope. She's just good.

(And Skuld is getting a little better too, I guess, as of the first episode of Season 2. A little.)

You sound like my girlfriend - loved Urd, hated Skuld.

Urd's only real fault (apart from going all demony and trying to destroy the world) is impatience - which is somewhat understandable considering she has to deal with both Keiichi and Belldandy. Like the viewers, she just wants to shake them and say "you both love eachother. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Just get it on already!"

I agree with this entirely.

It's funny, though, I didn't have a problem with the pace of their relationship before Urd showed up, but, frankly, I get where Keiichi is coming from.

He genuinely doesn't feel worthy of Belldandy. He can't really believe that his wish is going to stay true forever - and he's been given some evidence of this.

I really think that this, above all, is the source of his hesitation - the idea, "I don't want to make her regret this time, when it inevitably ends." which, given his life up until now, is a sad, but understandable position to take. (I'm not even sure how conscious it is.)

and now Monster Musume is a go for animated series.

Mixed feelings on this.

As Harem stories go, I actually love this one. All of the girls are interesting, even the third ring orbit like the MonSquad team. The Main character is fairly likable and I can actually understand why the girls fall for him, because he is someone who sees each of them as people. The series is fun even if there isn't really much of a plot. It's even educational ever once in a while (I never knew Spiders get drunk on cafine)
So on the one hand I am really looking forward to seeing it animated

on the other hand there is going to be so much blinding light rays and steam that I have to wonder if there is actually going to be anything to watch.

That's why I usually stick to manga nowadays. Of course there's also the fact that I don't have time to watch anime episodes. I read manga faster than that.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ALL ABOARD THE GOOD SHIP CHEESECAKE

Looking for an anime recommendation and you guys seem to have good taste.

In the mood for an exciting actiony/scifi/fantasy anime that is low on filler and isn't episodic in nature, by which I mean it has one more or less coherent story it follows against a prime antagonistic group or individual at a time, rather than just a bunch of random adventures strung together.

Akame Ga Kill was a great recommendation from you guys and just finished up Hellsing Ultimate and rewatching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood with friends, looking for more of the same.

Thanks for any recommendations. =)

Record of Lodoss War OVA, if you can get it.
(The series - not the OVA - was... goooooooooooo~d? But... more... um... "scattered"... and presumed knowledge of the source material. The OVA kind of ended a little suddenly, but the ending was at least projected and good, and it did so because it was published as an adaptation of a then-ongoing manga. The ending did wrap up the whole storyline, though, instead of just it's own small portion with the main plot left a cliffhanger (DARN YOU, No Game, No Life - DARN YOU A NEW PAIR OF SOCKS!).

I can understand this. Many character choices in many media are easily understandable, even if they are wrong or stupid. It's just that as an outside viewer one sometimes feels that people should stop acting like people and start acting sensibly. We know they won't because if they did choose the best alternative there wouldn't be much story or drama.

I'm rooting for Miia, but I'll settle for Centorea.

Something tells me there will be uncensored Monster Musume episodes out there somewhere...
