Jaegr "Knock Knock" |
Knowing it is probably his last chance to down his foe before his wounds overcome him he puts everything he has left into one more attack
Attack with Crushing Blow at -3 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Damage at -3 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Endurance to stay upright 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Kirth Gersen |
The leader, pre-occupied with his sneering escape from Caspian's net, fails to keep track of Jaegr's drunken-looking staggering. A half-conscious shuffle somehow brings the dwarf within reach of his target, and he puts everything he has left into a single blow. Unfortunately, the effort is too much for him: he pitches foward, unconscious, before he can see the results of his attack.
Everyone else:
When one of you rolls the unconscious Jaegr aside, you can see that the leader, too, is out cold -- it's hard to tell which of them is worse off.
Kelsin Illstar |
Snort stays right up in the woman's personal space, a little crud falling out of his nose onto her foot as he angrily chuffs out his breath at her. Kelsin lowers his quarterstaff and walks over to Jaegr, looking around in confusion as he goes. "Wh...what just happened here? C'mon, Jaegr, we gotta get you back up." The wood elf bends down and speaks in Sylvan, causing blue and white healing energy to coruscate around the mountain dwarf.
Kelsin will cast Cure Light Wounds on Jaegr, healing 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 and using his last 1st-level spell for today.
Wyvurn |
Wyvurn steps around the body of the guardsmen and covers the woman with the boar. With his free hand he picks up the rapier, keeping his eyes locked on her the whole time.
"Have a seat, miss. I think we'll be wanting answers shortly. Until then, just sit there and be quiet. You may think you might be able to get by me..and you may be right..but I wouldn't take my chances with my companion and his snorting friend. Never trust a man with hogs."
Nodding to Caspian, "Glad you stepped in when you did. That bit with the net saved us. You see where Geoff and Wilbur went off to?"
Jaegr "Knock Knock" |
Kelsin will cast Cure Light Wounds on Jaegr, healing 1d8+1 and using his last 1st-level spell for today.
That should put me at +5. Can I still use the Heal Skill to restore Hps?
Jaegr wakes up and groans in pain "Thank you Kelsin, that was one tough fight."
Jaegr then sheathed his hammer and retrieves his Pick Axe.
Heal check with a -2 for fatigued
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Should put me at 14/15

"I was once a performer in a far land against my will, I thought the piano player was going to stay, but looks like everyone took off."
Eyes the woman suspiciously....
"I judge by tha way she's actin she spectin us tah do to her what she was prepared tah do to us or at least tah tha dwarf, way I sees it she needs tah be doin some talkin explainin herself tah us."

You have 1 rank in heal. 1d8+1 = 4 + 1 = 5 hp regained.
Should put you at 10 hp.
Right, my bad!
Jaegr turns to the woman, "Now, what was this business with your leader wanting me here"
Wyvurn |
Wyvurn turns his attention to the few remaining patrons.
"Anyone that doesn't want to get killed better clear on out of here. Anyone that thinks that they can take me or my friend here, better think again. I'm not only going to kill them, I'll kill his wife, all his friends and burn his damn house down. We're acting on authority of the Marshal on this and he expects all of your compliance in the matter"
With that, Wyvurn tosses the Marshal's badge that he saved onto the table for all to see.
I think I might of shorted myself a skillpoint or hit point as I did not see that everybody gets a free skill point to put in a secondary skill--or maybe that was just humans? Bluff would have been real useful right here. Maybe Kirth will be merciful since I've ripped off both Snatch and Unforgiven in my last few posts.
Bluff if needed: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

Bluff is a primary skill, though -- your only secondary skill at the present is Knowledge (warfare). I suppose you could declare that your secondary skill and then spend that point on Bluff, though. "Snatch" earns you demerits, because it sucked so badly compared to "Lock, Stock" -- but being an "Unforgiven" fan makes you break even. ;)
Kirth Gersen |
The hobgoblin's skill at bluffing may or may not be highly-developed, but it doesn't seem to matter -- when he tosses the badge down, everyone remaining is suddenly in a big hurry to vacate the place.
The woman sighs when she sees it and says, "So you did knock him off first." Looking directly at Vanya, she says, "Do you remember everything, then? Or are you just bluffing?"
Her opposed Bluff check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

"I am of the King's Guard - they are not! They are traitors and dogs!"
"See, there you go with the simplistic thinking -- you boys are like a comedy routine. There's civil war under your nose, and you immediately go spouting off about 'traitors.' The simple fact of the matter is, without us, Aviona would have gone down in flames a long time ago."
"Take this fellow," she says, nodding at Jaegr. "Did it even occur to the rest of you that having a mountain dwarf -- a de facto emissary from the King Under the Mountain -- wandering around unprotected was like inviting an international incident?"
Wyvurn |
Wyvurn pinches the bridge of his nose and closes his eyes.
To the woman, "You, please be quiet."
To Vanya, "From the beginning if you please. I don't know what's going on, but you were the one fighting with us, not against us. That makes you the winner in the trust department."
To be fair, I won't adjust anything until we hit 2nd level. Then I'll just add +1 hp to make up for it if that's cool. The secondary skill can be the knowledge warfare for this level and my favored class bonus can just be an extra hp that I will adjust when we level. Yes, Lock Stock was a better movie but I thought Snatch had it's moments =).

"Like the halfling says, I can take care of myself. And live or die, the King Under the Mountain will not even know or care what happens to me, don't you worry about that. What you do need to worry about is telling me why the Marshall and you are so interested in some box on a caravan and what is inside of it."
Kirth Gersen |
"Who's the guy been sending people out looking for it? We heard there was someone doing that. Sending bandits. Maybe he knows about the box."
A glance at Snort seems to convince her she'll be eaten if she doesn't reply.
"Our superior is in Kaisersburg. My understanding is that he hired a group of toughs up there -- a half-orc named Kullen, and the rest of his gang -- to get the box. We were supposed to stay down here and intercept the dwarf. Different mission."

Vanya
I don't see your email posted in either of your profiles -- with it, I can send more stuff (including maps) to you.

"Our superior is in Kaisersburg. My understanding is that he hired a group of toughs up there -- a half-orc named Kullen, and the rest of his gang -- to get the box. We were supposed to stay down here and intercept the dwarf. Different mission."
"What is the name of your superior, and what were you supposed to do with me once you intercepted me?"
Kirth Gersen |
"What is the name of your superior, and what were you supposed to do with me once you intercepted me?"
"I don't know his name -- although Corporal Klaarett here probably would," she answers, indicating the man on the floor. "We were assigned to escort you to Hylore City, the capital of Aviona, where the Elvenking sits in state."
Looking at the wood elf with some disfavor, she adds, "We're a well-organized paramilitary battalion under official letters. We don't do scavenger hunts."
Kirth Gersen |
The women seems a bit disturbed by that. "Someone else hired him. Not us. We think he was after the box, though, not the dwarf, so we figured there was no need to worry too much about him.
"When Vanya showed up here with the dwarf, and the sheriff didn't come back, we figured he'd taken care of both ends.
"So, you honestly don't have the box?"
Kirth Gersen |
"Woman, I am becoming frustrated with you! Reveal now why do you speak of me in such manner, and you may yet die a painless death!"
She seems to smile a bit at this outburst.
"Come, now, dear Vanya. If you were so cavalierly uncaring about the niceties of conduct as you pretend, you'd have signed up with us willingingly and we wouldn't have had to slip you the suggy*."

OK, I think we may need to go back to the Marshall's place and see if we can find any clues to whom he was after. Lets truss up whoever survived this battle and take them to the cells. Then we can question the Corporal and search his place.
I'll take 10 on heal checks for everyone we fought to see what condition they are in - Result 15

Thank you!
The corporal seems to be unconscious but stable... at least, you don't think he'll die if you move him. The one you hit with the pickaxe is breathing extremely shallowly, and doesn't seem to have any response when you lift up his arm.
The one Wyvurn slashed has bled to death while you were talking.

Heal check to heal wounded man if it isn't too late
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Then we should move them to the Marshall's cells. Remove any weaponry and bags and search their persons to make sure they dont have lockpicks or anything to help them escape.
