Damn, how much for the clock?
SG
Shem- for small companies, the cost of producing a large, high-quality book can be prohibitive. And, if the book tanks, the company often cannot recover.
Kickstarter is a pledge-drive system, much like pre-ordering, except that there is much less chance on both sides for their to be a failure. You guys know if the project is funded, and if funding is exceeded, what bonuses go with the project. Depending on the level of funding you happen to donate, you may gain extras in addition to the product.
thats a real high-level overview, Im sure one of the other publishers can give you much better information.
Im still jazzed about the clock...
Skeeter Green |
not thrilled about being a kickstarter but i will reserve complete judgement until i see it posted.
basically was hoping for something sooner than the clock is saying, as it sounded from the blog posts that things were nearing completion.
but it is what it is, i guess.
The book was planned to be available for GenCon, whether it was funded by Kickstarter or pre-order, so that hasn't changed. Kickstarter gives us the option to add-in other goodies, should the gaming public be so inclined as to participate. 8-)

the goodies ARE AWESOME!
Kthulhu |
Eek. Kickstarter? You guys are determined to drain as much money as possible from me, aren't you?
Might I make a suggestion? At the higher patron levels, include the goodies in both S&W and PF formats, and the option for the purchase of both versions of the book. That way I'm not forced to buy the highest sponsorship level TWICE.
:P

The higher levels let you mix and match versiosn--I think you will like the high level patronage rewards.
Part of the idea if we can get bonus goals is to get us into STORES again.
Hate to ask fans to help us raise funds--but I just could not write $35k checks out of my own account anymore--my wife was getting edgy about that. If Tome of Horrors had failed....well, you get the idea.
In terms of timing, that is relative. Book written? Check, Maps done? check, art done (nope--but in process), editing also...then layout, then printing...all in all we have an extremely aggressive schedule to make Gencon. Usually its 6 months post final manuscript for something this big.We have 3.

7.5 hours to go?
*checks www.talesofthefroggod.com again*
It says 10 hours to go. Is there going to be an early announcement? Not that it matters to me. I'll find out tomorrow since I don't really check the internet much after 1500 Eastern.
Ick. I just noticed the disgusting typo in my prior post. I have supported a couple Kickstarters in the past. I hope that the extras are particularly evil, or at least half as evil as Skeeter Green. I also hope that I can afford them.

Funny I have less than 7 hours when I look. Strange....
I think it goes by your timezone. if Itchy is on ECT (I am on PCT) that would work out correctly.
Half as Evil as me? they are much more than that, I had LOTS of help. the totality of our evil is greater then the sum of our parts....
SG
PS, as a side note, one level of Rappan Athuk will be making an appearance at PaizoCon, as a lottery event to be played in. I think, not confirmed at this time.

Makes me wish I was going to PaizoCon. Someday my kids will be old enough to game and thus, old enough to give me an excuse to take them to Cons.

I'm in for $250!
I wasn't going to pledge quite that much, but then I saw that that was the minimum amount needed to get an exclusive bonus level...and I really had no choice. I mean, I didn't say to myself "I'm going in to get the BIGGEST DUNGEON EVER except for that one level."
So cruel, Frog God...so cruel.

Not real happy with the price point for that part. I could care less about the mini or t-shirt, So I need to spend $150 extra for a few more pages (and the battlemap which is merely a nice perk, slightly better than the T)...
:-/
Hope I can scrape that extra cash together, but not happy about it.

From the receipt:
"When your reward is ready, Frog God Games will send you a survey via email to request any info needed to deliver your reward (mailing address, t-shirt size, etc)."
Is this also where we will specify which version of the book we want, or do we need to email ahead about that?
That would indeed be where you state which rules version you want.
