New player looking for group / GM

Recruitment

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm new to roleplaying and hope to start here. I love the Pathfinder setting and wish to run through an adventure or campaign online. Either by joining a group or one of those 2 player GM/DM and lone adventurer. I'm open to suggestions ... I like the unconventional advanced players guide classes a d races.Play by post preferred.

I can run you through something. If you care to make a character, I'll poke through what I have for something that fits. At that point we can figure out how many, and what roles to ask for recruiting.

The Exchange

I'd be willing to join whatever you may have going on here.

I'll poke my head in to say I might interested, too, although I'll wait to hear more about the adventure before I commit.

....°o° *gasp* REALLY?! Yay! Gatherine "Taboofox" Deepheavy 1st lvl gunslinger. Female dwarf. 3'7" 132lbs. Age 41. Die rolls for stats on InvisibleCastle under 'Gatherine'.Cannot wait to see what you have in store!

I'm being terribly unlucky with PbP, all the ones i followed/ran died , and everytime i try another one it is the same.
I'm always looking to play pathfinder though, so in the hope this time it will be better i'm adding my interest.

Well I promise to see it thru to the end best I can. Even if its a simple dungeon demo.

To roll dice on the boards, you can type, for instance:

[*dice*]4d6[*/dice*], only leave out all the *'s. that gives me:
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 2) = 17

You can find more at the bottom of the page where you write your posts, by clicking "show" next to "How to format your text."

I'll wait on rolling ability scores to hear from the DM. He may prefer us to use point buy, take the elite array, or some other method. Then again, you are the one who asked for the campaign, so what you already have may carry some weight. :-)

you on another thread wrote:
i'm not exactly sure how a gunslinger's modifiers go. I know that her being a dwarf she gets -2 Charisma coz she can be intimidating and +2 Con coz she's hardy.

Gunslingers (and most other classes) don't get modifiers applied to their ability scores, if that's what's confusing you. If what you're asking is what scores to put your priorities in, gunslingers most need Dexterity (for ranged attack bonus, armor class, and some deeds) and Wisdom (for grit and some other deeds).

Also, in addition to +2 Str, -2 Cha, dwarves get +2 Wis. You might want to look into some sort of automated character sheet to help you, since you seem to not like the math. I'm not sure which ones are up-to-date enough to include gunslingers, though.

I would be interested in playing a evil female rogue if allowed

serpent's skull maybe? I was originally thinking running just a module but I'm sick of all the 1st level ones I have.
I usually use point buy, but its up to you. Once we figure out what we are running I will open a discussion, where we can hammer out details.

Sounds good.Gatherine's gotta start somewhere. What exactly does point buy mean? Is it like specific restrictions when building my character as to what she can and can't do? Hmmm...giant racist snake Ppl trying to murder my face. Sounds challenging. I accept. >: )

And many thanks to Gordon the Whale for your helpful input. I appreciate it!

That is the reason most DM say no evil characters. Because an evil character can add great RP opportunities, but most of the time it's used as an excuse to be a jerk.

I only know of about 2 people who can play evil characters and not be a jerk to the group and GM.

< She would be NE. Still have the best of the party in mind as a whole.

Shadow Lodge

I would like to join if there is space for one more. I have been playing pathfinder for a while but have never played on a pbp before. I played couple of APs with my friends and would like to try the rest of them via online gaming here on the site.

I was working on a monk/paladin alias but have no problem creating something else to acomodate the party.

EDIT: I also have an Oracle concept that i would like to try.

. < I can see where it could cause problems for the group or GM as those types of people are jerks in life as is and it carries over to their RP as well however I'm not like that at all. Just adds a little flavor to a character who would speak their mind bluntly and follow through with actions that benefit the party as well if needed.

here is a link to ability score costs if you care to check it out

you would need to remove the space between [ and / in your post e-terah for the dice roller to work

The Exchange

If Serpent's skull is what's going to happen, I'll pass. I'm in one currently, and we only just started.

Sounds reasonable.Good RP opportunity.

Well as someone once said "Actions speak louder than words."

And of the 2 players I mentioned, one is a very good at Lawful evil characters.

Shadow Lodge

I am interest in playing Age of Worms, Savage Tide, Shackeled City, Second Darkness, Legacy of Fire, Serpent's Skull and Jade Regent. If you decide to run any of them count me in.

I'm OK with unscrupulous. Evil can be tricky ... Alignment is not a huge deal for me, but there has to be some motivating factor to work with the group toward the same goal. I don't want to worry about an extra incentive for the evil rogue. Considering that.. playing evil might not feel all that evil...

Thanks! Uhhh...what kind of point buy system were you thinking? And would this be before or after racial traits? I already know how to calculate my ability modifications. (Ability score - 10) ÷ 2,rounded down. Will we be using that?

Found this tool on internet a while ago and have been using it since. It helps a lot when thinking about stats with point buy...

Okay, how about this for a character concept: A middle-aged Dwarf Cavalier (Honorguard archetype), a loyal retainer of Gatherine's father, who was sent to bring her home. So far, he is unable to convince her to return (and will remain unable for the entire campaign, of course), and will simply do his best to make sure she doesn't get herself killed.

(All this with e-terah's permission, of course. Don't want to cramp your style or backstory.)

I am thinking Order of the Seal, with Gatherine as the thing he must protect. That's a little outside the RAW, since she's not an object, location, or secret, but I like the flavor. If Bloodgargler doesn't allow it, I'd do vanilla Order of the Sword.

To fit with the jungle theme, I'd also like to take the Beastmaster archetype, which doesn't conflict with Honorguard.

Assuming we are going with rolling stats, here they are:
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 6) = 20 -> 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 1) = 11 -> 10
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 3) = 16 -> 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 1) = 10 -> 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 2) = 15 -> 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 1) = 13 -> 12

Happy to do point buy instead if that's how it goes, just let me know how many.

e-terah:

that appears to be the formula for what bonuses your stats give you... we can just roll 4d6 drop lowest if you want. If you care to do point buy, I do 20-point buy... the chart on the page I linked shows the costs. For example Str14 (5pts) Dex16 (10pts) Con10 (0pts) Int12(2pts) Wis14(5pts) Cha8(-2pts) is a 20 point build (5+10+0+2+5-2 = 20)
and yes this is before racial modifications

I prefer long terms campaigns rather than short modules, so an AP would work.
Serpent skull always interested me, i would love to play in one.
I can play any class/alignment, so waiting impatiently to know more details.

ROFL That is awesome and ironic. The only way she'll go back is if her father admits he misses her or her older sister explicitly asked,say a letter written to her telling her to duck it up and visit her family and stop being stubborn.Her father is a ranger and lives upon several hundred acres of land as a farmer who is considered a hero and many Ppl owe him favors--he could be simply trying to repay a favor by reuniting a wayward estranged daughter with a (somewhat ) worried father.Although her sister really prompted him to do it,as she's determined to keep her family together no matter how frustrating they are.He'll have his work cut out for him. : )

Wow 20 pt buy looks like primo stats for just starting out.Yes that seems mighty fine.

Thanks Merck for this its awesome for point buy! :)

Shadow Lodge

Your welcome.
:)

So, 20-point buy?
Max starting HP?
Two traits, one which must be a campaign trait from Serpent's Skull Player's Guide?
Starting gold?

Hi all, I'm relatively new to PF as well and have been thinking about trying to get into a pbp game recently. It seems like this game is already sitting at 5 players, so I understand if you don't have room or time for another. Just thought I'd throw my hat in and see what happens. If you want me to throw together a concept quickly, that's not a problem.

(For what it's worth, my pf experience is limited to another pbp game on a different site that is low magic, low fantasy, and in a homebrew world. After a 18 months of playing the highest level character is 4, and I've yet to see so much as a +1 weapon drop. So I think I'm relatively familiar with core rules, but I have.. shall I say limited actual play experience.)

Max starting HP,20 point buy...not sure how much gold or traits. Not sure if. PC's have just the clothes on their back and equipment from the various ports the ship visited before reaching Sargava.

Hello mozartdminor.Just getting things together.GM Bloodgargler is the one to see before we get to the crunch.Otherwise,enjoy.

Yes max HP first level. Two traits is fine ..just no more than one from any single category (ie faith, campaign etc) there are campaign traits in the players guide, they tend to give some reason to be on the adventure. Don't mind terribly if you don't use them, but you might want to at least read them to get background ideas. 150 gold to start.. I have only skimmed this campaign, reading it now.

e-terah, Gordon, Gandal, J21120, Merck, and mozartdm:

opened discussion ... giving first preference to you. If your interest wanes in a week I'll open to others. We can discuss which classes you would like to take and those who are new to pbp can ask questions.
link here

It seems like the group is complete. If there is a spot, let me know, I want to play.
