Scarab Sages

So, for the second year in a row, Super Genius Games has produced at least one PDF product every week for 52 weeks in a row! Our "52 in 52" Sale is in full swing (52% off!), and for some reason as often happens when we have a big sale, I'm sick and hopped up on cough syrup, and the other Geniuses are much too busy to keep track of what I'm doing.

So it's time to give some stuff away for free!

So I'm starting the Help Us Pick Our Options promotion. One of the most popular lines SGG had this year was the various Advanced Options and Ultimate Options books (along with odd-option-out Sorcerer's Options). They've sold well, received good reviews, and generated a lot of positive fan feedback. I plan to do more such books, but having provided some new options for every new class except the samurai, the big question is what topics should our new option books cover?

I want to know what you want to buy! And I want to know so much, I'll give away free PDFs to the people who'll give me their opinions! This has worked quite well for me in the past – the Genius Guide to the Time Warden was the most-asked-for sequel from last years' contest, and it's been a very positive product for us!

So, here's how this promotion works.

1. Respond in this thread with a suggestion for a book in one of Super Genius Games' various Options lines. If you like the idea someone else has already made, vote for it. If not you may suggest a sequel to an existing Options book (for example, you might like to see another Ninja Options book), or a new set of options for a rule set we already covered (for example, you might suggest a Sorcerer Options book that focuses on new bloodlines), or a set of Options for a set of Advanced or Ultimate rules we haven't covered yet (for example, you might suggest we should write Advanced Options: Dirty Tricks or Ultimate Options: Piecemeal Armor).

2. Tell people which Super Genius Games PDF you want for free. It needs to be a product released before November 11th 2011 (11-11-11, ie not the Genius Guide to the Godling Ascendant or a product we release after the promotion has started). It's be nice if you also mention why you want it, but that's optional. :D

3. Send an email to owen [at] supergeniusgames [dot] com, and tell me which PDF product you want, and what email address you want me to send it to.

I'll do updates from time to time on how the promotion is coming allow, tally votes, and answer questions and comments!

This promotion runs through Dec 5th, which is also the last day of our 52% off sale!

I would personally love an Ultimate Options book for Bardic Masterpieces. Maybe even going as far as having a spelless bard variant that focuses on them XD.

You guys have covered a lot of stuff I wanted to see covered. I think fighting styles for fighters would be neat. But that I mean say Sword and shield book with some feats and combat maneuvers for them. Could do one for 2-handed weapons, weapon and shield, polearms, dual wield, archery.

Sorcerer bloodline spells part of the sorcerer options series. New sorcerer only spells(or alternative existing ones tweaked) that they can learn if they take certain bloodlines. Not sure if that would work well but it would be neat if the bloodline added spells the sorc could learn and have a bigger impact. Could also do a series of new druid only spells, or inquis only etc. To add to there variety. I just like casters to have a number of spells only that class can cast.

I will look over the other stuff you guys have made and see if anything else jumps out at me. Plus you I am sure still have my old list. Like the Temptress class.

Yeah that would be a good one too.

Random ideas;

Advanced Options: Alternate Racial Traits (Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Human / Aasimar, Tiefling, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Orc, Tengu, etc.)

Advanced Options: Alternate Racial Traits 2 (Changeling, Dhampir, Fetch, Ifrit, Oread, Sylph, Undine / Suli / Gillman, Strix, etc.)

Ultimate Options: Vehicular Combat (Class Archetypes, spells, etc. that interact with the new Vehicle rules, such as a Ship's Mage.)

Alternately, Alternate Racial Traits, along with Favored Class Benefits and other rules option, such as race-specific feats, could be designed as individual products for each race, or cluster of related races (such as the four elemental races).

Lantern Lodge

I agree with Frerezar, the Bard Masterpieces would be really cool to see.

Alternate Racial traits for the not Core Book races would be cool as well. But if it comes to a tie my vote is for the Bard.

As for what PDF I would like, how about........ :( *SAD FACE*
I already own all of the Pathfinder line of PDFs, except the Adventurer's Handbook, which I own in dead tree form. I guess I could use the PDF of that.

I would like to see a book that gives multiple options/archetypes for SGG classes (Dragonriders with non-chromatic/non-metallic steeds, Vanguards with natural weapons, or something like that), as well as Sorcerer Options for more non-bloodline archetypes, for example a scholarly sorcerer (whose parents didn't care that magic ran through his veins, he WAS going to magic school) that carries a spellbook and has one spell slot per spell level be a prepared spell slot.

Side note: Owen is doing something like a new bard for his blog thingy. I can't seem to find the link now, but I'm sure he'll post it soon!

Something I've been throwing around in my head are the "Forgotten" menu-choice lists. These are the ones that introduced new menu-choice options for an archetype, and there's a 0%, give or take 0%, chance of new options being released.

These would include the masterpieces of bard, skirmisher tricks, trapper traps, stalwart defender's things, etc.

I'm not sure it'd sell well, since it is highly niche. But interesting nonetheless, I feel.

I also think right now that with the release of Skyrim, there's an above average (which is to say: tangible) interest in Words of Power.

In the end, I'll second D_M's vote for a book on combat styles for weapons, much like the unarmed style feats.

I would love to see the Templar. I've been inordinately interested in non-lawful stupid paladins lately, and I've heard good things about this one.

1. Expansion of Words of Power would be great. There are at least a few people (including myself) who find them a much better fit for what we'd like out of magic.

2. More race books. Though I believe in this case we've got a brute one coming, and were already promised one on scaly options.

I would also like something Bard related. That is pretty vague- but I am not sure what I want until SG games creates it :)

I have many SGG pdfs. I would like to get one of the Codex Draconis. Don't have any of those.

BTW - this is really cool of you.

What would I like to see? Hm ...

Ultimate Options: Prestige Classes. I personally don't think there's enough generic "I-can-be-used-in-almost-any-world" Prestige Classes; even most 3PP seem to shy away from them! I challenge you guys to make Prestige Classes so wonderful that you revitalize the entire mechanic for people!

Votes: Ultimate Options: Dragonrider (I'd love rules for Emperial / Primal dragon steeds for one, as well as rules for dragon companions in place of a Paladin's steed, a Cavalier's mount, or a Druid's animal companion (PLEASE MAKE A REAL DRAGON SHAMAN!).

Ultimate Arcana: Words of Power. This system needs more, and I'm sure it would be a great use of mental reflexes!

As for a free product ... hrm. I'm leaning towards either the Genius Guide to the Time Warden or the Genius Guide to the Templar. Can I split my vote 50 / 50 :-P?

In the past, I have pushed for a Runcaster style product. I would still like that, but I am not in deep need of it for my present campaign. I would like more right now to see somebody like Super Genius Games tackle an Artficer type class. Not as it is in Eberron so much as a magical technologist. OR.....as a construct summoner type thing.

Aside from that, other suggestions. Spells that are for weapon wielding mages that require a wielded weapon as the material component. Spells that have a racial requirement (ie, must be of elven blood to cast). That would really set off unique spells for different races. That would also lead to necromancers sacrificing a certain race just to cast their spells.

Update your Archetype books to include some of the newer PF classes. They are a quick way to create some great NPCs that are just slightly off to the left of what PCs expect. Like the idea I had posted on Facebook once about adding an Archetype to an NPC class.

I'll add my voice to "more support for SGG-classes", especially e.g. the Time Thief/Warden, the Witch Hunter, the Shadow Assassin, the War Master etc.

On the "Options"-books, I'd love to see an additional one for bards (preferably with a synergy to crystal magic) and one for Inquisitors and/or Summoners.

I'll second Golden-esque's demand for more Words of Power. I'd also enjoy a fully converted Pact Magic, but I guess that will still take some time.

I'd also immediately second Sets's "Ultimate Options: Vehicular Combat" and would add "Ultimate Options: Aerial Combat" to the list.

I'm against exchangeable spell-lists, thus I'd advocate products with unique spells that are exclusively available to e.g. sorcerors, witches, summoners, rangers, paladins, inquisitors etc. "Exclusive Power"-line?

More products in the Anachronistic-line would be awesome as well.

Brain dump time! Normally this would be a PM, but grumblegrumble. At least I'm pimpin' SGG's stuff at one point.

HHG has a clockworker class. It's the summoner, but for clockwork stuff. I am very biased since I view any of that stuff in a great light, but I enjoyed it.

Owen once mentioned that they were working on an artificer type. This was a while ago, so I presume it's still on the backburner.

Advanced Options: Alchemist Discoveries gives Spagyric Devices. These are bulky items that emulate Wondrous Items, and you can have a certain gold value of them per day.

There are also a number of good homebrew versions.

Ardwright.

Hida's version

Anthony Kane's version.

Christopher Delvo's version

Personally, Delvo's version is my favorite.

Now that you put me on the spot, I can't remember what I was thinking of the other day that would be a cool idea.

I'd like to see a variant set of rules for creating characters using points, something similar to 2e's Skills and Powers line (but more balanced, of course).

An "Ultimate Options: The Anti-Paladin" would be a fun book, with variant types based on alignment and new powers and abilities. Or heck, just an "Ultimate Options: Holy Warriors" that has rules for paladins of all the other alignments.

As far as which .pdf I want, I'd have to say "The Genius Guide to Spell Variants III" would be my choice.

I also want to thank Owen and the entire SGG family for seeking and utilizing ideas from its fans. My favorite 3PP by far!

I like the Engineer, too. It seems a little week to me, though. It seems it's like the old Artificer with the spell list dropped.

I thought your best product so far has been Wyrd Wands and Rune Staves. I don't know if there is more that you can do with these, but I would definitely say it's my favorite and I'd like to see more. Or just another take on a different magic item? Maybe an alternate potion system that's more alchemical and less liquid spell? Like Wands before them, Potions and Scrolls have gotten pretty boring for me.

The Feats of Psionic Might was another one that I liked. While I think DSP is doing excellent work with their Psionics, I have seen Owen take on Psionics before, and I want more of it.

10 Monster Feats - also great. I have enough feats for PC's. I want more stuff they won't see coming when they get hit in the face with "just another" Ogre club.

For the most part, I have enough access to Feats/Spells/archetypes for Core/Advanced/Ultimate classes to last me a lifetime. I think you guys are at your best when providing for the fringe: nonstandard magic items (love Loot4Less), alternate rules systems (like the wyrd wands), 3pp (psionic extras).

I have everything SGG has published for PFRPG and I have an AGP, so this one's on me.

Liberty's Edge

I know this is about outside what you're asking for but here goes.

I would like (love) a campaign option line, a few rules and some basic ideas / stats for campaign influencing things like:

Campaign option: Steampunk

Campaign option: Advanced technology

Campaign option: Under water

Campaign option: Undead apocolypse.

If this doesn't work put me as a +1 on the support for SG classes and aerial combat. Oh and words of power.

As to what I'll take for free, heck there's so many I want probably ninja options just because I'm sure I'm going to have a ninja in my next campaign, I'm much less sure about anyone else.

I really want to see the super genius guide to Crafty Archetypes. I love the archetype products and am now using them as the core or my wealth replacment rules for my current game. You have done archery, martial, divine, and arcane, but no skill based ones. Something for the fighter that wants to give up some of his combat prowess to be more crafty and skillfull. Something that would allow you to move characters towards that 3/4 bab but lots of interesting class abilities crowd (rogue, alchemist, inquisitor, etc).

After that I would throw in support for the additional support for existing classes (expanded talents and such). The expansion with the godling ascendent product makes it a MUCH more robust class, I would like to see that happen for the dragon rider, time theif, shadow assassin and all the others.

As for for the free pdf, can I direct it to someone else? I actually have every pdf you guys have produced for pathfinder to date except a few of the one night stands. So there isnt anything I would actually ask for, but it might be fun to give the pdf as a gift to one of my group mates if thats an option.

Funny that you mention that. Wyrd Wands and Rune Staves is one of my favorite products. I really enjoy the subsystem it presents, and I look forward to the sequel (if there is one). I am not concerned with the power boosts to spellcasters. It finally allows for a wand to be more than a spells-in-a-can. To say the least, this product has inspired many ideas of my own.

And I too am a bit tired of potions and scrolls being mostly forgotten. It's something I've thought a lot about lately.

So as not to derail the thread further, Matthew:
Check out Rite's offerings in mid-december :)

Owen did mention that you should e-mail him the e-mail address that you want the item to be sent to.

Alternate alignments Paladins book
Blood spell for Sorcerers, but not quite the way that Dark Mistress suggested. I'd like spells that block or improve bloodline powers, let you lend a bloodline power to others, etc. etc.
A variant of Arcane Discoveries for witches. Why should a wizard become immortal at 20th level and a witch not?
More Alchemist discoveries: I want a sleep bomb!
Bard Masterpieces +1^^

I would like to convert your modern material (the Enforcer) to the Modern Path and also make a Hero Lab’s data set for it. I could write both up and send it to you, if you want?

Voting for this. Those are great ideas. Would love to see it!

Which is also the book I'd love to get for free (The Genius Guide to the Dragonrider). Had full intentions of picking it up regardless. Looks like a fantastic little class and I have the perfect campaign I can fit it into. Been looking for something just like it!

The Exchange

I gotta echo the sentiment for the Ultimate Options books for Bardic Masterpieces and an Ultimate Options book for the Dragonrider; both of these would be excellent ideas. And to echo Golden-Esque's plea, PLEASE MAKE A REAL DRAGON SHAMAN!

Would I be able to get the Genius Guide to Rune Staves and Wyrd Wands? Pretty please? (Also, I know it isn't an Options line book, but more new and interesting magic items would be awesome, in the vein of the Rune Staves and Wyrd Wands)

After you've done fun stuff with a good number of your classes, I'd like to see a Genius Guide to Pathfinder print book that I could order. That'd be awesome for people like me who love to have mutilated tree-products for our games!

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!

A compiled Best of SGG print book would be awesome. If we start now, it can be ready for PaizoCon and GenCon! :)

It's awesome your doing this yet again. w00t!

Also really want.

And a spell-less wildshaper/shapeshifter.

And a ki-powered monk/unarmed fighter with a syntheist-like eidelon suit/symbiote. (Yep, I know it sounds a little like the Aegis, but I'd love to see SGG's take.)

And anything for psionics.

Maybe something that builds on the excellent Badges of Faith mechanics? (Maybe working together with Rite on it?)

...

As for the freebie? Hmmm... how about The Genius Guide to Feats of Psionic Might?

I forgot to say that the product I would like for free would be The Genius Guide to the Godling.

I realize that I'm a voice in the wilderness (player options seem to be ruling the day right now), but I would love to see a Mythic Menagerie oriented around the aboleth, with variants, allies, servants and such.

I would also enjoy another entry in the Adventurer's Atlas line. Outpost Qether was a promising beginning, something which can and should be added upon.

As for the PDF I would like to receive, since I have had an All Genius Pass at Dungeon-a-Day for a while, I'm going to reach into the way-back machine and ask for The Genius Guide to the Archon.

I'd like to see a supplement for the Time Thief and Warden along the likes of the Godling Ascendant, tying the two together with more options and adding archtypes, monster options and other support as a "part 3". I'd also like to see a slight revision to the time theif to give it some type of damage increase option, perhaps a slowed down sneak attack or sneak attack only when using bullet time.

I'll pass on a PDF, since i buy whichever ones catch my eye already, and have no qualms about giving you the money for em. Thank you for the products i have enjoyed to date.

+1 for the spell-less shapeshifter!
And, I'd like an Advanced Guide to the Magister, improving the Magister with APG, UM and UC options... a witch-like, oracular-like, magus-like magister...

Ooops, I forgot to say what I want in the other post... Genius Guide to Mosaic Mage, please? Because I always wanted to play Magic in a RPG!

I would like to have one of the following:

2- Genius Guide to Time Magic
3- Anachronistic Adventurers: The Enforcer , I’d love to see the Academic, Bruiser, and Agent base classes.
I thought I would go with a time theme for what I would like to see.

I'd love to have either the Codex Draconis: Red Tyrants of the Mountains or the White Terrors of the North.

Liberty's Edge

Product I'd like to see: A sequal to Ultimate Options Grit and gunslingers. I love the idea of Guns in Pathfinder, but something in the Gunslinger just doesn't feel right, the Fusilier works better for the setting I think.

One I'd like: Power of the Ninja, because my ninja nut girlfriend wants it... Dang ninjas...

Oh maybe a pirate archetype book would be good.

It's something we continue to look at a practical way to make happen. So far a single PDF has HL support that comes with it (Dragonrider), and a lot of fan-built data sets are available unofficially for others.

So far, we haven't managed an economic and timely method for creating official HL files, but it is something I'd love to have someday.

We do accept submissions. Authors Sam Hing and Marc Radle, both of whom have done several books for us, submitted material to me to get that process started.

We normally accept submissions for a whole book (well, a PDF book, usually 5,000 to 7,5000 words), but if someone wanted to submit just part of something I;d consider that too!

Anyone interested in a serious, professional submission drop me a line at owen [at] supergeniusgames [dot] com.

Anyone who isn't sure if they know what a serious, professional submission is but wants to drop me a line anyway, go ahead. I don't bite. :D

Time Warden!

And I can't help but think that they have an actual wizard speciality somewhere in one of their guides to magic.

The whole aspect of Time and the creative impact it can have on the game is interesting - and seems popular based on some of the discussion about SGG’s products above.

It is also something Paizo has pretty much left alone to date.

The way Monte Cook used time in “Dead Gods” immediately comes to mind as a way of getting a GM’s creative juices flowing without having to account for every possibility that every gaming group could come up with.

So what does that mean for a hypothetical Genius Guide to Time?

Not sure exactly. The existing classes SGG could form a foundation. Time spells, time feats, time capsules, time machines, monsters from the fourth dimension could all fit in. I would personally be interested in some kind of GM advice on how to incorporate time travel into a campaign, as either a side trek or a “worked example” of a time travelling campaign outline, with adventure hooks and maybe sample encounters.

Would this be easy?

No. But we are talking about Super Geniuses, right?

As for the incentive pdf – how about Codex Draconis - Green.
