Healer help

Advice

New to pathfinder but not to D&D in general.

I am looking for what class out of the main core book and or the advanced book would you recommend for a primary healer for party. Also what about arch-types? Recommend build, feats...etc

Thanks

Don't be a primary healer.

Check out TarkXT's Guide to Clerics.

Be a kickass cleric who can also heal when needed after combat.

Or be a Bard. They can heal just as well.

Or a Ranger.

Or a Paladin.

Or a Witch.

They can all use Wands of Cure Light Wounds, which means they can all heal as well as anyone else.

Playing a dedicated healer is boring. Prevent the need to heal by killing your enemies faster.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend a primary healer unless the player in question finds being a primary healer fun for them.

Otherwise, there are a lot of ways to heal.

If said player DOES want to be a primary healer for the fun of it, Cleric is hard to beat, but Paladin does pretty well.

I believe an Oracle can be built to be a pretty effective primary healer as well, if the right options are taken.

Grand Lodge

Or Inquisitor

Or Oracle

So many choices that can heal and DO MORE!!!

The Exchange

I recently started playing Jade Regent, as a Human Keleshite Cleric of Sarenrae, Whom graduated from the Venicaan College in Katheer.

I made him into a Doctor, using the two traits, I took Wealthy so I could afford the Doctors Outfit, Tools, and a few other items that helped with Healing.

I took Merciful Healer Archetype Which helps a lot since it gives you Combat Medic, so you do not provoke AoO's while using your Heal Skill or Healing Spells. So you can stand there and touch your Fighter while he is fighting, just stand behind him!

I also took the Sub-Domain Restoration, I love its ability Restorative Touch. Allowing me to relieve Sickness, Nausea, Fatigue, and a slew of other ailments. This is also nice when I'm standing behind the Barbarian in the party and he is just coming out of rage, and starts Fatigue!.

Like I said I took Wealthy as a trait for the extra cash. My second trait was Venicaan Medic. (+2 trait bonus to Heal checks to treat diseases or poisons, and Heal is always a class skill.) Our GM also allowed us a free trait from the Adventure path, so I took Rescued (Koya) (+2 Trait Bonus to Cure Spells.) Which is really nice at lower levels when you roll 1 on your CLW.

So at level one, I am a full Cleric, that CANT channel Positive Energy to Harm Undead, But can do Restorative Touch, I have a helluva Heal skill Check, and I can use a casting of Cure Light wounds to heal 1d8+3 Damage. PLUS, I can convert my spells over to healing, so Healing is not the only thing I can do!. Buffing Party members is fun too. Once I get a little more cash I am gonna pick up a Wand of Cure Light Wounds, or Moderate. So I can free up the slots. Plus I plan on taking the Achievement Feat, Healers Touch. But that is dependent on your GM. Oh and I can channel Positive Energy to heal the party, when I run out of spells. Although it does not count towards my Achievement goal :(

I hear that Witches can make excellent Healers too, Depending on your GM and if he allowed other D20 Sources, you could ask him to convert over the Healer from the Miniatures Handbook. It was a one Trick Pony when it came to healing. Not much else though.

Alchemist with infusion discovery. You can use CLW Wands, have access to the "heal" extract, and your restoration extracts can be used as a standard action instead of taking 3 rounds to cast.

Plus you can contribute to buffing, combat, and skills.

Alchemists are awesome.

My advice would be a Human Life Oracle with the Haunted Curse. Take Chanel Energy at first level and you will be out healing a Cleric every time. This is going to give you a decent amount of spells including some unusual ones for a divine caster.

i'm doing this with a half-elf and picking up eldrich heritage (arcane) for a familiar

Human Life Oracle would be my suggestion too.

People say that being the healer is "boring", but the trick is to be the healer plus a second forte. What is the second forte that you like in your character?

Use your mysteries for the extra healing (Channel, Life Link, Energy Body) and flavor your character using the other resources.

Example: Melee Attacker / Party Healer / Party Face

Get up and swing in combat when not healing.

S: 16, D: 12, C: 13, I: 10, W: 10, Ch: 16 (20 pt build)

Skills: Diplomacy, Bluff, Sense Motive, etc.

Mysteries: Channel (1st), Life Link (3rd), Elemental Body (7th), etc.

Feats: Toughness (Human), Weapon Prof: Great Sword (1st), Power Attack (3rd), Cleave (5th), etc.

Spells: Lesser Magic Weapon, Bless, Divine Favor, Bull's Strength, Weapon of Awe, etc.

Items: Potions of Enlarge Person, Belt of STR, Boots of Striding & Springing

Example: "General" / Party Healer / Party Face

Survey and control the battlefield; never losing a fight unless you go down first.

S: 14, D: 12, C: 13, I: 10, W: 10, Ch: 18 (20 pt build)

Skills: Intimidate, Diplomacy, Sense Motive, etc.

Mysteries: Channel (1st), Life Link (3rd), Elemental Body (7th), etc.

Feats: Toughness (Human), Iron Will (1st), Shield Focus (3rd), Missile Shield (5th), etc.

Spells: Bless, Obscuring Mist, Cause Fear, Hold Person, Sound Burst, etc.

I hate that I have to repeat this a lot, but remember that as long as a spell is on your spell list for the class you are playing then you can use that wand without a Use Magic Device check.

So, even if you are a level 1 Cleric then by RAW you can use a Cure Serious Wounds wand with no problem. Granted it will be out of your price range, but still useful to know since everyone told you to rightfully be a bad ass not a panzy healer.
