I honestly can't believe that people are expressing a significant concern about the name of the book. Is race really such a sensitive issue that we can't say the word "Race" in conjunction with any adjective?
We're all fantasy gamers here, guys and dolls. We understand what is meant by "Ultimate Races". It's not as though the contents of the book will be in any way similar to "Mein Kampf". I kind of think everybody should relax a little bit.

+1. I don't get all the reaction. Though I don't discount it...but can somebody explain why the title id offensive?

Me too.
I'm really looking forward to this book - and I'll buy it not only notwithstanding the title but even more for it :)

It's not offensive, per se. It just sounds like it would be the name of a racist manifesto, since it could literally mean, "the best races."
It's like naming an adventure path, "The White Crusade." You could just be talking about an army that uses an all-white banner, but lots of people who don't know that are going to think its something else entirely.

hello threadjack how are you...
Back to Ultimate Races(I would think Germans would like this title though I guess it would be Ultimate Race instead of Races...sorry couldn't help it)
It's OK, I was about to remark the same. Ultimate Races would be very un-Nazi. There is supposed to be only one Herrenvolk, after all. That's the way it was. Just not something you mention in polite conversation with your allies...
Oh, and leave me alone with that Poland thing. First, it's on the other end of the country, and second, you might damage the Q-Workshop factory.
If anything, I'll head the invasion of the country that is almost in front of my door. Bonjour! We'll head straight for Paris. Not because of any tactics. I just thing that big tower they have there would make a great Schwenker!
But enough of this WWIII planning.
I'd love to see a well-done Pathfinder Savage Species. A book about 0hd races? Maybe not so much.
And yes, Ultimate Races sounds dumb, please use a different title.

Except tieflings are lesser. They can't hope to get a decent position in the army. And Cheliax is the nation.
And the Archdevil doesn't rule.
So it's more "One people, one Cheliax, one Dominatrix"

I've never understood the 'races' thing in dnd/pf anyway.
Aren't they really all different species? Can't we have Ultimate Species?
In all honesty, I think that the brains at Paizo could come up with something better that wasn't Ultimate X. I think the idea that people are looking out for the next ultimate book is as specious as the idea that we're hanging on for the next advanced guide book.
The ultimate tag has been played out by comic books and was never that great for combat/magic anyway.

I guess I can see that. But I really dislike this extreme sensitivity and PC thought out there...I mean heck
Ultimate Magic would offend any christian or muslime as well magic is from the devil...
Ultimate Combat will offend some pacifist...
etc.
Now I am not saying those who would find the title offensive to be as extreme as those two examples above but come on...but those people are stretching it a bit I think.
We should all agree not to judge a book by a title...I mean take Hitler's little book title translate to 'My Body' I believe....so is that just a book about health?

Here's a bit more info from what I announced at the PaizoCon Preview Banquet.
The fourth section (which I actually forgot to mention at the Preview Banquet) gives a thorough optional system that allows players and GMs to create custom races. Part of this will help you emulate more powerful creatures, but other parts will be about making wholly original creatures that advance as player characters. This will include all kinds of weird stuff, and it will be the focus of an extensive open playtest.
That's the outline as it exists today. We...
I'm really happy to hear about that fourth section, because I ran a pbp for a couple of years that was heavily centered on espionage and intrigue - and so of course we had someone playing a doppelganger and another playing a liason from the lizardfolk. That was an intensely fun campaign and the players did an excellent job portraying such alien species (as compared to the core 7). I would really like official Pathfinder rules (even though optional) for doing more stuff like that.

Yeah, there are plenty of races (and not just bipeds, either) that would make for cool player characters, but whose baseline power makes them inappropriate choices for the standard method of handling non-standard PC races. We plan to create a system that allows you to use some of these guys (or create your own) in a way that doesn't break the game.
That said, the much-requested tarrasque PC race is probably not going to be one of the options, so the system will not allow you to do absolutely anything.

What about The Pathfinder Book of Life, or something to highlight the creation of new races.

That is so much better than a Archdevil...well depending on your pain tolerance level...

I disagree. Caving to overly sensitive made up politically correct tripe is not a good move.
Ultimate Races tells me exactly what this book is. I hope the new name is at least as descriptive.

Very exciting. The name of the book is of little concern to me - I'll buy it no matter what it's called. I've been hoping for this book since the Pathfinder RPG was first launched and never thought it would see the light of day.
My only request - please make Section 2 on other playable PC races as long as possible.
Thanks.

This is awesome sauce with bacon and gravy. I've been wanting a book like this since 1E. I don't want to be a Dragon or a slime mold. I just want to have the infinite species feel of space opera with balanced, playable options. I don't want to play the ***zilla knock-off but I'll take a shot at playing a demigod when you get to the Epic book.

Honestly, coming from a multiracial family, I don't see why everyone was so outraged at the original title. One look at the cover tells you what the book is, and unless you have some REALLY overly-PC relatives no one is going to call you a racist (well, unless you are one... then that is just par for the course).
No matter what the title is (and I am curious about what the new name will be), this book sounds awesome! Ever since the Tiefling write-up in Council of Thieves I have been waiting for more on the Aasimar and I am hoping that is one of the things included here. Please?
