It's the anniversary of Noah's Flood:
A great deal of effort has been made by biblical literalists over the years to identify the exact chronology of the events dictated in the Old Testament.
Some scholars, including Camping, adhere to the theory that the Biblical Flood took place on May 21 in the year 4,990 B.C.

May 22. I don't think the world will be over. (I think The Book of Revelation was a metaphor heaped with Babylonian astrology that nobody can really grok because we don't understand, firsthand, the times it was written in). However,......in a weird other universe that is identical to this one except for the fact that indeed, the world IS going to end on May 21, do you think your identical twinner there is maximizing his life's output? And on May 22, if the metaphysical superheroes there won and somehow made the powers-that-be turn over the universe's hourglass....armageddon preempted for another age of man,......what should this identical twinner do that he/she/it isn't doing right right now?

I don't think THE world will end May 21, 2011. Or 2012 whenever that Mayan calendar says.
However, there could be a tornado rip through my neighborhood. Or an automobile accident. OR I might have an aortic aneurysm that I don't know about decide to pop like a zit and gush my blood into my abdominal cavity and send me off to my dirtnap.
MY world might end at any time.

Y'know...
I hang around some pretty serious conservative Christians, and I gotta say, discussion about the date of the End Times is probably the least useful topic I've every heard.
It's the one piece of information that scripture tells us, up-front, we won't know. It's the one datum that Christ says is withheld even from Him.
It's unhelpful to speculate: what good does it do, if the Last Judgement is on the 21st, and you intend to put your life in order on the 20th, and you get hit by a bus and killed on the 18th?

Crimson Jester wrote:Another thread on this?? What is this the third date this guy put out??This is the first thread I have seen on this topic.
We had at least one other. It is some seriously misreading of, well everything. And like Chris says why bother, You could get hit by a bus on the 18th.

Mildly heretical thought here, but imagine if judgement days happens, God is standing there and goes "No, you know what, no. Everybody come in, sinners and saints, we'll all sit down and talk about what we did wrong this time before I reincarnate everyone."
Can imagine all the religious sorts who use their faith as a pedestal for their own egos going "....................". (warning, contains swearing!)
Do they have internet in heaven? Will I still be able to play MMOs and would God be willing to let Gary Gygax be the GM in my game?
*snorts*
Just had the mental image of a Bhudda, God, Allah and Shiva sitting around a table while Gygax says "Roll for inniative." Dear lord I am heading for Hell, and I don't care.

Origen was right!

Camping's reading of scripture says that this rule only applied during the "Church Age," which ended somewhat recently. He has denounced organized religion and churches, which he says have been fully infiltrated by Satan.
So that's how he can pinpoint the day.

Ah so he is basically saying he is better than everyone else. As well as playing on the american dislike of anything organized, religion specifically.

I have lost count of the number of times the world is supposed to have ended in my lifetime. It used to freak me out as a kid... but then again I grew up during the cold war and I was also expecting to be nuked at any time.
I am so over it that when some nutter starts up with the end of the world crap I just laugh.

Ah, he's invented the Blind Slit version of atheism/heresy with a side of Snobish A**hatery.

This guy probably thinks it works like the lottery. If you guess enough times it'll happen.
Joking aside I've heard of various splinter groups from christianity claiming that the world would end every so often. Best not to pay attention as this guy and his cult and clearly just trying to draw attention to themselves and grab more followers.

There. I have officially Forbid It. When we're all still here on the 22nd, you're welcome.
Given Time is caused by change in possibility at the Singularity, has it already happened? or do we need to make it happen to isolate all the trouble makers in a pocket reality? Close the loop on you and trap you on a mobius.

Patience. I'm knitting you a sweater with String Theory.

To this day, I still crack up every time I see this Jack Chick tract. For all the Rule 34 reasons. YES!

Is it wrong that I consider the Chick tracts less evil than Rob Liefield's "art"?

I see ads for this on the train all the time lately. I'm wondering what's going to happen if he's wrong.
I'm already on the case. Rest assured your Alton-/Whedon-hating ways can continue unabated.

Thank god. I was about to call my lawyer regarding what to do with all those unsold boxes of Haterade(tm).

And to think that there are Christians who say that atheists are immmoral. This guy is thinking about your poor Fluffy after you're gone.

I'm flagging you.
And soon my Mom or Dad will show up and protect me.!
You're right. I apologize. I knew putting an extra "m" in the word "immoral" was going way too far.
