We have no plans to add any racial factions to Pathfinder Society play. While organizations like the Ninth Battalion and Lantern Bearers are really cool, adding a new faction requires the inclusion of a new faction mission each scenario, and something restricted to only a single race is likely not to have a high enough membership to justify the extra work.

Additionally, any new Faction would require a "re-write" of any PREVIOUS scenarios written before that Faction was added, making MORE work for the fine people at Paizo. I like the idea of a new Faction, but I like having new scenarios produced in a timely manner even more!

I never expect it, but I would love to see the Apis Consortium get some sort of faction, allowing to spy on the society. Or maybe a mini campaign, story arch, something like that for AC faction aligned pcs to give us a taste of the other side. Kind of like when we read a strip in Knights of the Dinner Table featuring the Black Hands or Patty?s Perps.
Just before the announcement of extra factions. Itold a new player about the opg hint of new factions to come. Soon after, another player mentioned a pc with ranks of profession free mason. I joked that the new faction had already infiltrated the society! Really looking forward to doing such myself and roleplaying it.
I expect it is too late now but how we see at least one faction that is something besides a nation.

i guess its possible they could make sub factions within the original factions. Nothing too radical mind you,
Along the lines of
Cheliax Loyalists: Loyal to Thrune and co
Cheliax Independents: Want the removal of Thrune and co
Both would have very similar tasks to do , with keeping Cheliax strong, both might go about things in similar ways but both would have different end goals.

No I mean a faction within Cheliax who want Thrune gone and replaced ( go back to the way they used to be etc etc)
Id be hard pressed to create 2 Andoran subfactions.
Based on the scenarios...
For Taldor, a pro-Eutropia vs patriarchy split comes to mind.
Qadera you get the Saranite factions warring.
Osiron it is the battle of the sages! :-)

I have a suggestion for a boon.
Right now, one of the keenest rewards is elevation to the status of Venture Captain or a free-lance agent of the Society.
Is there any way to have an equally-difficult-to-obtain boon that would allow a player to create a minor faction? (Maybe even more difficult. It could be one of the carity boons auctioned off at a convention.) And I'm thinking about something like the Lantern Bearers, or the Riftwardens.
I'm drawing up a proposal, and I'll post it on this thread in a bit, but what do folks think? Mike, John, what do you see as the downsides / problems with this?

Since there is no real faction competition between factions; there is no need for factions at all. They are fluff only. As it now stands, factions do not materially effect events/game history/game standing. The progress of factions towards their goals, or their failure, does not effect their members in any significant way.

The only thing i can think of as to why Factions remain is as another "Character Building Tool". It helps to add identity to your Pathfinder PC. The factions "competing" vs. each other has gone by the wayside once they took out the secondary faction missions in the scenarios.
My vote for a new faction or counter to the Grand Lodge would be...
"The Blakros Society" where everyone is a member of the extended family is some fashion. Maybe they could take over the Sczarni Faction and start to act as a sort of new Shadow Lodge.
Which reminds me that i need to start saving my loot towards my dowry. I hear it's pretty expensive to marry into that family.

I really don't see the Blackros family as comparative to the Shadow Lodge. I could see them as the Sczarni though

Of course, you never left. It's hard to leave if you've never arrived to begin with.
"Shadow Lodge? Aren't they the group that is constantly fighting themselves, when they aren't spending their resources to raise the idiots who don't know the word 'retreat'?"
