Well the fan-boi guy was running, Cortex+(drama), based on the Smallville system. And it was a closed room mystery, however there was a re-emergence of Superheroes - thus there could be any number of ways that the murder occurred. I came up with 3+ solutions & the GM gave us no hints, all the while mentioning that the 'stress-system' was adversarial (in terms of XP). No-one was really interested in that sort of thing, tho' I had some fun banter with another player (after deciding in character creation our PC's were ex-lovers).
The game was OK, but sort of trudged on - mostly fun due to the players than the GM. The finale was hilarious, when my space pilot was ambushed in a featureless corridor and then sort-of gunned down (he did just survive). The GM had a tantrum that my rolls were bad & that unarmed I couldn't beat a shooter in a corridor with no cover.

I haven't done the Smallville variant or even seen it - I kind of adore the Firefly version (to the point of using it for unrelated games).
I understand the two are actually substantially different in a lot of ways, as are all the Cortex+ systems - kind of like the difference between, say, True20 and 3.X and Legends: all run under the d20 chassis, and usually have a related stat/skill load-out (though customized) and deal with magic (and sometimes tech, and sometimes magitech), but that's about the similarities.
Anyway, I've heavily used a modified version of the Firefly Cortex+ to play several "D&D" games (using the three-distinction system as alignment, race, and class) and a drow game in a setting that I've built from the ground up (though many of the conceits are "D&D-inspired-plus," it definitely isn't any of the standard D&D settings).
That is, of course, in addition to the Firefly games I've run or been a part of, which have been fun, too!

While I was out, someone tried to hit me with an "IRS phone scam." Did I mention recently how much I hate hackers?
Yeah, the fundamental trusting nature of people frustrates me quite a bit:
It is hard to blame people, as being nice is so intrinsic to being a social creature, but social scams have reached the point that it's pretty much, "If the phone rings and you don't recognize the number, it's a scam."
The fact that I still get several calls a week means that people are still falling for them.
Logistically, maybe they're right. Emotionally, trying to call in a scam and being told, "Yeah, don't bother us, nothing we can do," is rather demoralizing.

It was a "robo-call." First Red Flag. The IRS has people make calls.
They didn't know my name. Second Red Flag. I never gave the IRS my cell phone number.
It wasn't a 1-8xx number. Third Red Flag. It was a 425 area code, which seems to be the current favorite with hackers, identity thieves, and other ne'er-do-wells.
425 is the Seattle area - and I would automatically have to answer the phone with that area code on my caller ID because my company has an office in that area code. It's pretty annoying.

Also my order of wax tarts arrived today, so that makes me super happy. I got a cool tart warmer in the shape of a dragon climbing up a castle. Heats the tarts through pretty fast too. It's the first electric tart warmer I've had and it really does heat the wax much faster than the tea light versions.
For those of you who have zero idea what I'm talking about, scented wax tarts are my personal favorite product from yankee candle. They're great for folks like me who want to change scents often since they're small and get used up a whole lot faster than a giant candle. Also, they are way more affordable than the candles. Especially if you have the right coupons. Tart warmers have a dish where you place the tart and then underneath there's either a bulb that heats the tart to melt it or you light a tea light candle underneath to melt the wax.
Anyhow, I'm really excited about it. Ooh, and since the tart I picked is red, the light shining through the melted wax makes the dragon look like it's bathed in blood! As it should be ^.^

Man, every day is getting worse and worse. Yesterday looked like Tuolumne Meadows on a cold morning, with campfire smoke putting a grey haze and the smell of smoke over everything. Today we're in a post-apocalyptic ugly golden haze. I really don't feel bad about suspending my workouts until this stuff has passed.
Just scary how bad it is, and I'm 50 miles south, mostly upwind.

Yeah, it's bad. There's a red flag warning for this afternoon, meaning the winds are shifting again, and our exhausted fire personnel have to prepare for the fire to move in new and unexpected directions. So it's still really bad.
On the other hand, GH, go for it! Northern California is so accustomed to disaster we love gallows humor! (Or at least I do...)
Just don't make me laugh too hard. The air around here is terrible!

I swear, in a summer or two I'm just going to rent another big-a$$ RV and drive across the country visiting all the FaWtLers and taking them out to eat at their favorite restaurants.
Might be a teensy bit expensive, but man does it sound fun!
