So... our second night of Blue Apron, and again, the chopping and sous cheffing was a bit much for the kids, but they wolfed down the food and declared that they LOVE Blue Apron!
Tonight's meal was shrimp & udon noodle salad, which is rather amusing since I don't eat shellfish yet refuse to tell them not to send it because my wife and kids LOVE shellfish. But we cooked it up, everyone else loved it, and I tried some of the non-shrimpy bits and have to admit it was significantly better than Tuesday's meal.
This Blue Apron thing is quite the thing!

Darn you... now I want to try Blue Apron.

To paraphrase Julia Child: "This is not a service for people who want cheap meals. It is not a service for people who want easy meals. It is a service for people who want to try cooking different things using fresh ingredients they may not have tried using before..."
Which is EXACTLY what we were looking for... except for the whole, "NobodysHome has to do 3/4 of the chopping because it's too hard for the kids" part...
Also, the shrimp & udon salad was good enough that I WOULD happily serve it to guests...
...and now I know how to make it! Woo hoo!

But we're talking about SHRIMP here.
You know that slightly rotten, "tastes like the bay smells" flavor you get from old, rotten shellfish?
Well, I can taste a little of that in shellfish ALL THE TIME. Also, whatever it is that makes people like them, I CAN'T taste that flavor.
So crab and lobster are rubbery, flavorless fillers. The best shrimp are just chewy distractions. I prefer to leave such things to other people. I can eat them. I just don't enjoy them.
Favorite moment #1 (I think I've mentioned): NobodysWife had the "best crab she's ever had" up in South Lake Tahoe. For me, it was just more flavorless chewy stuff.
Favorite moment #2: Over the weekend we went to our favorite sushi place. I like California rolls because they usually use "krab meat", which is just colored cod. I grabbed a couple of rolls and nearly spat them out. This time, their "krab" obviously had shrimp in it, and I could strongly taste the rotten bay flavor. No one else in the group noticed at all.
Different tongues, different tastes...

How did you get-
I normally post at 5:30 AM, BEFORE I go to bed.
After a 10 hour work day, the hamster manning my brain has long ago passed out from drugs, alcohol and worse before that time.
But at least now I know why 1 out of 10 of my posts do not get the Tacticslion approved like {tm}, you just don't read them.
Also, it's a play on words, in this case the traditional "so and so is rolling/turning over in his grave."
I'm always cautious about following links online, even if it's by people I like. I work at avoiding certain kinds of content, as it were... not that it's entirely possible on the Internet, but you know. :D

I do not like coconut. AT ALL!!!
So you're saying I should make coconut shrimp and other coconut themed dishes if you come over.
I recommend mid February, we should be pretty deep into the winter madness enough to host a luau. :-)

Why we don't eat roaches is beyond me.
They are some of the best protein available.
I love cricket flour.
My guess is it's a combination of disease, poison, and "ick" - I have been told (though I'm uncertain how accurate it is) that roaches can hold human-afflicting pathogens, and may have absorbed or may generate things that are toxic to us but harmless (or relatively so) to them (like certain fish with mercury). But mostly, I'm guessing it's the fact that most people go, "Ick!" instead.

They post the ingredient list, instructions, and tips online for free. So I now have the recipe for cod udon... The shrimp one wasn't online. To save a few bucks (maybe) I will see if I can find some of those ingredients at the local importer.

Philosophically I've got nothing against eating six-legged critters. But you'd have to get me desperately hungry to actually do it.

Whole crickets are nasty. They're so dry your saliva doesn't work so they end up all sticky in your mouth. Like eating dry pine needles or sticks. They don't taste particularly bad, so I'm not surprised cricket flour is OK. And I'm not surprised you can make flour out of the little buggers.
Ants are fine, in spite of the formic acid.
Mosquitoes taste like dust.
Jellyfish are fine, if you like chewing rubber.
Scorpions are just plain nasty, no matter what anyone says. They have a truly bitter core.

I've heard whole crickets are better if you cook them first- like a dry biscuit.
Ants are yummy.
Will not eat mosquitoes, ironically.
Scorpions, from what i have heard, need a *heroic* amount of seasoning to be made palatable.

Microsoft, you absolute jerk.
First you update my computer while I'm not there, and then, in the process, refuse to allow me to disable the crappy and awful "services" you insist on shoving into my user experience making actively worse and representing an invasion of privacy.
STOP. THIS.
>:(
~sigh~
Windows really works hard at annoying customers.Windows 10 recently updated on my machine too... It did this in the middle of me playing a game. I had no say in the matter and it did a restart at the end... I am glad I had autosave turned on. To make it worse the purpose of the update to paraphrase Microsoft was to remove all those apps they don't want me to run... Like Classic Shell. This is the opposite of good customer service. Fortunately the makers of Classic Shell had an update that worked with the new patch, although I had to listen to the Win10 notification section yell at me for having unapproved apps.
~grrrrr~

Amaiko/Wendy? Or is Ameiko Grunklestan? Or lazy Susan?
Is Wendy the elf ranger?
Sheriff to sheriff.
Wealthy Chelaxians -> Northwest family.
Shifty criminal herbalist = Grunklestan?
Top of my head. Lacking names because I've not played it and don't have materials with me, and am not familiar beyond a vague acquaintance by way of Campaign traits, pictures, forums comments, and Jade Regent player guide.
