GTG, is it just tomorrow they are saying that for, with Friday to be determined? From what I'm reading, it seems like that's when it should be approaching Jacksonville.
My dad is on the gulf coast like Amby, but I hope he's taking precautions anyway.
My building is disaster recovery for the company, so I think it's both. Still, just because the building I'll be in from 9-5 will be safe, what about after 5, when the real action starts, and it's too late to drive out because the roads will be a bigger hell than the hurricane?
I'm still not entirely sure. I left work early today because I was physically feeling ill from how angry I was.
(And depressed. Today is a bad day to realize my new medication is not doing it's job...)

Last I saw they're still only packing. I believe they are still in Houston this week.

Yeah, that's stupid and borders on malfeasance. Unless your company bottles water or keeps food/building supplies shelves stocked, no one is going to be patronizing you. They are either evacuated, or they're finishing prep to hunker down.
Forcing your employees to come in anyway, when they won't be focused on their jobs means lower productivity and increased rates of accidents. Forcing employees to come in when they'll be at risk to injury driving home or they can't stay home for the kids (because schools and daycare are closed) risks making the company liable for serious fines and lawsuits. A good businessleader would eat the short term loss to prevent bigger losses down the road and to maintain employee loyalty.

Unless you are in a call center. In which care almost every caller wants to waste time talking about the storm, which costs the company more money, and lowers the employees' scores because of longer call times.
"No, I'm in the center of the building. I can't put you on hold and go walk outside to check for you how much it's raining and blowing."
"Yes, I agree the company should have closed the center. But we have to come in, so people can call us to angrily say we shouldn't be here... while also making us spend 10 minutes baby-stepping you through moving your Windows taskbar to the bottom of the screen, or uninstalling a dozen browser toolbars & even more malware/bloatware. No, don't click-, no don't- no- please listen to what I'm- no, that's the wrong window. Close that... the X in the upper right. Upper right. Your other right..."

I would do this for you Freehold, with no hesitation.
(Most definitely) Even if there was no girl involved.

That wouldn't work with everyone.
My response: "So, threesome?"

The great joy of moving is getting done with moving.
Of course that's the only joy, the rest of it is pain, but worth it. :-)
I can help as long as you're (Tequila Sunrise, or anyone else) moving within 50 miles of Madison. :-)
Are you ever truly done moving? I'm usually living out of boxes for 6 months or more...

Announced today...tomorrow is closed, all employees get 8hrs pay!
Evacuating after work tonight after work. Alabama/Mississippi/Louisiana bound. Four day weekend thanks to Columbus Day. Going to just ride this out where it's dry.
Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.
Good deal, gtg!! If only you felt like making the long haul to West Tennessee!! But, seriously, no -- it would be another 6-8 hours of travel. Main thing -- be safe! You and all our East Coasters (they go on the right hand side of the coffee table).
That being said, though:
FaWtLCon (Southeast) 2017. That should totally be a thing. Birmingham, AL, perhaps??

Hey, just so everyone's aware: I was recently told that the storm could go on for up to 60 hours, and according to FPL, 2.5 million people might be out of power for up to weeks.
So just in case you don't hear from me or I don't fovorite things in a timely manner, you'll know I'm likely fine, just without power or basic survival necessities! We're good!

Remember, not only can insects be weaponized, they're also a great source of protein.

Stay safe and dry TGTG, Tacticslion, and Sharoth (and Taig/Rawr! and Orthos, who I think are in Georgia).
I'm seeing a big jump in westbound traffic coming in from the east coast. Lots of fully-packed suvs/minivans, roof-rack luggage, and UHaul rentals.
Thanks! We'll do our best at our household!
But the rest of you guys better do well, too! :D

Urgh... Binding of Isaac succeeds far more at making me absolutely terrified and nauseous than most "horror" games.
That's because it is a horror game, of sorts.
It's definitely a horror game dealing with a combination of body horror (it's everywhere), psychological horror (Isaac's more or less eternal torment and continuing-deranged adventures; added to that, the entire abuse angle and both overt statements thereof and subtext), and socio-religious horror (referencing the evil that can blossom even within those who consider themselves righteous according to a code, without ever actually living up to or internalizing the standards or teachings within the very creeds they supposedly embrace - "the failure of the righteous to be so" in other words).
I am probably either making up genres or misapplying them, but those are the themes.
That it's wrapped in the package of a shooter game is irrelevant. It's a horror game, meant to make people feel disturbed (within the humor), so as to match the thoughts of the creator on religion. That is, it's meant to be darkly humorous. I just found it awful. To each their own.

I'm gonna drive to Alabama or something. F@!# this mess. 140+ mph wind...that's basically a tornado the size of a country.tg^2, you do what you have to. Your safety is paramount.I agree that you have to do what is best for your family. But, watching all the local news forecasts, I think Florida is pretty safe. The east coast is going to see some storm surge at the beaches, definitely some strong winds, and dumpsters full of rain... but the state has experienced that before. I'd definitely make sure that I've got enough non-perishable food and water on hand, batteries and flashlights, candles and a lighter, charcoal or LP gas for your grill, a battery-powered/crank/solar weather radio--the usual stuff. If you have any ice cream or frozen foods you've been saving, go ahead and start cooking them for dinner now, so you don't lose them if the power goes out.
You might ask your (and Mrs. TGTG's) employers now if they plan on remaining open. Most businesses would be smart to close, as no sane customers should be out driving around in that much wind and heavy winds. Also, schools will probably close too, which means kids will be home, which means someone has to stay home with them. I'm not sure if you have kids or not. If you do, or for your own sanity, have plenty of things handy to do that don't require power--books, board & card games, etc.
I know it's annoying when a random Internet stranger says to "stay calm" when your brain tells you otherwise, but you guys should probably be OK, if a bit soggy, at the end of this. I definitely wouldn't want to be in the eastern half of the Carolinas though.
please be safe.
