Are you sure it's not because you both share a fiery... hm... "temperament"? ;)

You... you've got red hair, right? This joke kind of relies on that. I, uh, I could be wrong, though. If so... "Oops."

EDIT: let us not look into why I'm talking about such things while naked.

Indeed. Let's not.

I'm not sure if I've ever related the story of going to the fridge in my dad's apartment when he was "on assignment" for International Paper in Georgia--

I'd gone over to visit on one of my breaks from college, and I noticed that his refrigerator contained nothing but a pack of yellow American cheese slices, half a head of lettuce, a bag of partly-defrosted frozen raw shrimp, and some Vella wine in a box. There was a second bag of shrimp in the freezer.

In any case, today after work, I went to my own refrigerator to put away my water jug, and noticed that my fridge contained nothing but a half-full jar of pickle relish, a partly-defrosted package of ground venison (with a second in the freezer), two single-serving packets of horseradish sauce, and a lone can of expired Bud Lite.

I'm beginning to notice parallels.

The only reason the fridge in my kitchen is always full of varied things is because it's my friends fridge and they keep their things inside...

OK, this is creeping me the f%*# out. There's a new(ish) guy over at Brad Jones' YouTube channel, and I think he's my clone. We've got the same voice, similar mannerisms, and we're the same age +/- a year or two. We've even got the same name. If I gained fifty pounds and he got a bunch of ink done, we'd be f~#@ing identical.

Dragon Age: Inquisition and all Xbox 360 DLC completed. Time to start saving up for that Xbox One so I can finish the damn thing, I guess. At least that will give me time to finish Knights of the Old Republic and play through the Mass Effect series again.

Or, you know, regain my lost social life.

Nah...

Where is all the watermelon Mountain Dew hiding? I got off the subway at my usual stop, and Mountain Dew plastered the entire upper level with pictures of Mountain Dew cans in grape, and watermelon, and mango, and something else. So I went to Walgreens in search of this watermelon Mountain Dew. No. No grape, no mango, no watermelon. And so I go to CVS. Nothing. And 7-Eleven. Nothing. Lucky Supermarket. Nothing. WHERE AM I TO AQUIRE THIS BEVERAGE THAT IS ADVERTISED TO ME?

I vaguely recall seeing it at BiLo and Walmart.

Darn you... You got my hopes up for a new Mountain Dew flavor. Sadly this new watermelon flavor is a Mountain Dew Kickstart thing starting this year and is completely unavailable in my area.

Mountain Dew is gross (no offense to those who disagree)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I used to love Mountain Dew. But now I find any sweetened beverage disgusting and gag if I attempt to drink it. This has now extended to alcohol as well. Soy milk is the only exception and even then I've switched brands to find one with less sugar in it. Changing tastes are weird.

Mountain Dew was my crack back when I could drink soda, though whether I preferred that or Dr. Pepper was a matter of mood at the moment.

Now since I'm on the no-caffeine thing, it's not even an option. I know there's decaf Mountain Dew, but what's the point?

Love my soda stream. It's not that it's that great, it's that I hated lugging home heavy bottles of seltzer that much.

I don't know what BiLo is and there aren't any Walmarts in San Francisco. I could ask my Dad (who works at a San Jose Walmart), but he'd probably refuse to buy it for me because he has this nonsensical concern for my health.

Just had an illustrator friend of mine from college reconnect with me this morning. He'd dropped off the map for about four years after having some health problems (ditched his phone, deleted his e-mail and Facebook accounts), and I didn't even know he was still working and living in the area. Weird.

It's a big city, so that makes a certain amount of sense. They tend not to grow them in urban centers, mainly sticking to the outlying communities. I bet there's a couple around Oakland or San Jose or somewhere.

Last time I was in Oakland, I was stranded with no car and little cash for two days in a neighborhood that seemed to consist primarily of big box stores and abandoned warehouses.

... really? I always thought the bigger the city, the more likely one's going to show up. There were like six of them in the portions of the Phoenix metro area where I lived (Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler), and there's almost always one or two in the cities in Tennessee and Georgia.

Wal-Mart is not as prevalent on the west coast.

I grew up in a tiny town in Texas, as well, and we were the only city within an hour's drive that didn't have a Walmart in it somewhere. All the others were also bigger than my town. Probably the main reason I associate it more with larger cities.

That said, I've never lived in an actual Big City except Phoenix.

I suppose that would explain it. I suppose the fault was mine for assuming that since there were enough of them to go around in Arizona, the same would go for California. Probably shouldn't be surprised I was wrong.

Wal-mart relies a lot on volume, and most large cities simply don't have the space for them. For example, the closest Wal-marts in relation to New York City are across the border in New Jersey, and the closest one in New York State is in Valley Stream, Long Island.

On the other hand, small to mid-size cities, particularly in economically depressed areas, seem to be spawning pools for the damned things. There are six Wal-marts in and around Albany, NY, for example.

The second-largest single employer (the first being International Paper, which employs roughly 15% of the town) in my hometown of Ticonderoga, NY (pop. ~5,000) is the local Super Wal-mart.

Sort of like how Dunkin Donuts has the slogan "America Runs On Dunkin," yet they have pretty much zero commercial presence west of the Mississippi River.

In the fridge:

Beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer

(3 x Midnight Bell, 3 x Guinness, 1 x McEwan's Extra)

Cheese, cheese

Cooking bacon

Ham

Milk, milk

Mango juice

And in the pathetic freezer section? Who knows. Possibly the Ark of the Covenant? Lord Lucan? Some peas?

Yeah that's a little larger than the town I grew up in. Not by much though. Miss that place sometimes.

I think the big problem is that I really don't have an appreciation for what "big city" actually means, now that I think about it. The biggest city I've actually lived in and experienced was Phoenix, and even then I stuck pretty exclusively to the suburbs of Tempe and Mesa, and Chandler for a few months. I do vaguely recall passing through Phoenix downtown a few times, including my most recent visit out there for Ebon's graduation, and yeah the place was pretty packed.

But otherwise, I've never actually been in a major metropolis for longer than a few hours. My definition of "big city" is pretty much shaped by the few larger metro areas that I've actually been in for extended amounts of time, and comparing those to major cities like New York, San Fransisco, and so forth, they're all much, much smaller.

After painstakingly exhaustive research, spanning years, I've determined, beyond doubt, kids dig Bad Religion.

Hey guys, kind of an important question.

Do any of you have any project in need of a fantasy writer with +5 years of experience, or know anyone like that?

Since I was given a rant about how I really should get my name out so I can actually fulfill my dreams, and my blog is far from enough to achieve that.

No ongoing projects, but would be willing to collaborate on a webcomic or something.
