Oh, it's one of NobodysWife's HUGE "pet" peeves. "Pet" needs to be in quotes, because it drives her to physical violence.
I grew up in the early 70's, where every frigging writer and director suddenly realized, "Hey, sometimes the hero can LOSE!", so all my childhood movies and TV series were about heroic people who strove against the Forces of Evil, and either lost or died while winning.
NobodysWife had it even worse: Throughout the late 70's and entire 80's, almost every single action movie made was, "The protagonist has a wife/girlfriend/love interest solely so she can die to motivate him to succeed."
The whole, "Girl needs saving" genre is a teensy notch above, "Girl dies to motivate man" in her pantheon of hate.
I have a strange suspicion that she might like Aliens. I know that Ripley is one of my favorite characters ever.

Oh, yeah, Aliens and T2.
And we just pretend that subsequent movies in both series do not exist. Very much like any sequels to the Matrix.

when your wife comes to kill me, we can watch aliens. It's one of my all time favorite movies.

What do you mean, pretend? To my knowledge there was never an Alien 3. Something about "We've considered it, but decided against it on the basis that the preceding movies were true classics, and we shouldn't cheapen them with base greed, unless we have a really good concept, and alas, we don't."
of course there was an alien 3..and alien resurrection. These are necessary movies to free the indoctrinated from their worship of Whedon.

Wow... lots of unfamiliar terms this morning.
Anyway, today at work is going to be a bear (lots of installation and patching), which, combined with a meeting with Impus Major's teachers AGAIN to discuss his issues (a lack of short term memory and EXTREMELY high energy make for a poor in-school combination), will make me rather quiet.
But tonight we surprise GothBard (who's running Skull & Shackles for us) with the WizKids Skull & Shackles mini case. It'll be wonderful to see her reaction. (Either elation or dread -- she HATES running, so she may look at it as extortion to get her to keep running. But Shiro's player and I looked at the contents and said, "We can use those when we're running OUR games" so we split the cost.)

So the massive dramafest that has plagued our NWN server for the past six or seven months has finally come to a... surprisingly quiet end. No massive explosions on the forums, no endless debates, no sneaky attempts at undermining the server population or tempting players away from the community with half-truths or highly-biased retellings of the debate. Just one (admittedly hostile) conversation with the players at the core of the problem, leading to a bevy of insults at the administration and a quiet departure with a very small handful of close friends.
And within a week after their departure was confirmed, the server suddenly exploded into activity. GMs posted several quests and the staff was extremely quick to snatch up the abandoned plotlines and requests the two problem players had previously laid claim to. There was this very palpable aura of "man we're all so glad that's over, now we can move on with our lives in peace".
What this means for me is that the time has come to begin Ebon's, Scint's, and my server plot in earnest. Evil sleeps no more, for the Runelords will rise!

...and I mean seriously?!?! Another day, another prediction of a high of 77 F.
It's been in the mid-70's with an occasional lapse into the 80's for about 3 months now.
I'm 6th-gen Bay Area, so weather monotony is in my blood, but seriously?!?! 3 months without any significant changes???
Do SOMETHING weird, please Mr. Sky!
EDIT: Some people have conquerors, dictators, or other infamous people in their past. Me? I get John LeConte, first president of U.C. Berkeley but otherwise the less famous of the two brothers. (I always forget whether John or Joseph was my great-great-great-grandfather, so I look up which one has the shorter Wikipedia entry, and that one's mine...)

Wow... lots of unfamiliar terms this morning.
"Halloween vacation"? What strange world is this, and how can I get in on it?
Anything is possible when you request off for Halloween and the 5-6 days around it in May, also nobody in the Midwest requests Halloween off, they always go for Christmas, New Year's Eve (which in Alcoholic Wisconsin is huge) and Fourth of July (blind patriotism with binge drinking is also quite popular out here)
I hope things go well with Impus Major, i won't get started on teachers and "issues".
Skull and Shackles is the best:-D

Considering I'm currently working on Alaznist's chapter (for various reasons there's a high chance I'll be player-side for that one, so I'm working on a writeup for Scint and Ebon to run with so they can run the chapter but still get all the foreshadowing, etc. for future events I have planned in), this may be one of the few times Freehold's desire is more accurate.

On that note, "Evil Lord ExDeath" makes a pretty good theme for Alaznist IMO.

I hope things go well with Impus Major, i won't get started on teachers and "issues".
Oh, *I* will. Impus Major has a disability that is too easy to pass off as an "excuse for laziness" so teachers just don't believe us.
Briefly, his short-term memory short-circuits very easily. You can hand him a blue ball and say, "Put this in the red bin." You can have him look you in the eye and say, "What did I just say?" and he'll respond, "You told me to put this in the red bin."
If he has to so much as walk across the room, he'll completely forget where he was supposed to put the ball. It frustrates him to tears. We've spent thousands on therapy and even tried an ADHD drug (made him VERY suicidal, so no more drugs for him).
And teachers and school administration think it's just a "convenient excuse". Today I'm on the war path because after 3 years of middle school insisting that "NobodysHome needs to know what the homework assignments are BEFORE they're due" and having them promise to put it in his 504 plan, I learned that they've been writing it down on their "notes", but it's never made it into the final, formal documents. If this were a meeting at the middle school, I'd be bringing a lawyer with me. That's how angry I am.
But it's a new school with a new staff and a new administration, and I will gently explain to them that they can accommodate (telling Dad what the homework is is NOT an unreasonable accommodation) or they can be sued. Their choice.

NobodysHome |

Out of curiosity NH, do you have any sort of medical documentation of this? It might go a long way toward making the school more cooperative.
Either way, wishing you the best of luck.
Thanks! My issue is that they are always VERY cooperative to my face, give me whatever accommodations I ask for, sit around for 2-3 weeks saying, "Wow! Look how great Impus Major is doing now! Guess those accommodations worked! We can back off on them now!"
So it's having to harass them every 2-3 weeks to say, "No, you need to do this ALL YEAR LONG!"
