Yesterday, one of the ladies at work gave me a present for Katie. When I got home, Charlie saw it before I could hide it away. He asked if it was for him and I told him "No, it's for Katie."

He the got all sad and asked where his present was. So I got one out of the pile of stuff from relatives and let him open it - one from my grandmother.

It was a Slinky Dog from Toy Story - which is awesome, since he's really into that movie these days.

Nekkid present opening? Sounds like a job for my wife!!!

Scarab Sages

And now it's time for Toy Story 3. Ned Beatty as Lotso - really creepy.

Scarab Sages

Though I would had preferred the alternate ending where the box gets opened in the attic and an older Andy pulls them out to play with his own son.

Time for more coffee and getting ready for errands and such. Later folks. Have a good one.

Happy Birthday! I can see my reverse-Wunian Snow dance has been a success. Just to be on the safe side, I sacrificed an entire box of Popeye's Fried Chicken for some extra strong mojo.

Lucky thing I checked back in here, or I wouldn't have known about my second-favorite New Yorker's birthday. Usually, I find out through Facebook.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FREEHOLD!!!

So all of my Christmas cards got into today's mail. I call that a success.

I didn't have time today to bake the fruitcake. I will make it tomorrow. I have never made one before. It will either be delicious or painfully disgusting.

Silver Crusade

Right now, my house smells like delicious Italian food. I am making spaghetti and meatballs.

Silver Crusade

Yesterday, I was served my first baccalà by a family friend. It always sounded like something I would not like, but it was actually delicious. Not salty at all.

You should gift it to someone, then let it make its way around your circle of family and friends, aging like a fine wine, until it inevitably returns to you.

Nah. Cakes should not be given away. They should be eaten.

Unless you bake one as a birthday gift to me. Then it certainly should be given to me.

Or cookies. Or muffins. Or cake and cookies. Or cake and muffins. Or cookies and muffins. Or cake, cookies and muffins.

Fruitcake is not cake.

You sir are correct.

Ode to a Fruitcake

Though I have heard real homemade fruitcakes are delicious. If you like candied fruit. Which I don't.

It is true. They are. If you like candied fruit. Which I do.

Also, my mom shares a birthday with our own FHDM. She is now a Sexagenarian. That is way less sexy than it sounds, I am sure.

My mom and dad were staying with us for this last week, but for the weekend they went over to my older brother's house. Mom has said she wants to stay through Christmas, though. We think she thinks it might be the last one for my dad.

I can identify. I'm glad you guys are able to get together.

Anybody know of a charity who would like piles and piles of damp, crumpled Kleenex? I hate for them to go to waste.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Sunday! I've actually been up for over an hour, hanging with my kids while mommy sleeps a bit more.

At one point I was sitting on the sofa, holding Katie in my right arm, while Charlie was sitting next to me snuggling up. It was a great feeling.

I sent her chocolate covered strawberries, but the big gift is actually delayed. My brother, my sister, and I are chipping in to rent a vacation house on Lake George for a week this summer. My mother is ecstatic to have all the kids and grandkids in one place.

I could add them to my collection.

Don't judge me.

Indeed. I helped Dad with a couple of things this morning, and I get to help my sister with some landscaping later this morning. After that we get to watch the Texans Broncos game, and have some beers. Tomorrow I get to pick up the rental truck and load some very solid old furniture for the trip back home Thursday and Friday. Then I can start reorganizing the house when I get home.

We get to finish a multi-part Battle Tech scenario on Saturday. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again especially my daughter and her family. Hopefully we will play my son in law's Pathfinder game the following week. He's running Fellnight Queen.

Fruit cake is out of the oven. I had to bake it a lot longer than the recipe said. That is probably because I lined the pan with parchment paper instead of foil, which would would have conducted heat better. Anyway, it looks impressive, but may very well taste disgusting.
