Spoiler:

Capstone powers? How about the Flame of Tarvalen weave, opposite of Balefire. Nightshade weave that blocks weaves from hitting you, but still allows you to weave.

Demandred didn't get BEAT, he just botched his roll at an unfortunate moment. Rand, he's wandering somewhere around here lighting his pipe!

hey ar'ruum...some of us havent read MOL yet. SO thanks for that...

they are called spoilers... designed for this type of situation...

Part of my comments were just being silly, most of it is extremely vague... how it all happens is the adventure. My apologies though if what I said in jest is still more than you wanted to know. I'll try to be more circumspect in the future.

Agreed. That's not cool, Ar'ruum. Rizzen, flag his post as containing spoilers. Hopefully Ross will come through and remove it.

thanks sara!!!

that said, i dont think a single weave or whatever that thing is, should be used as a capstone. It should be a culmination of training, so something to the effect of what Ebben was thinking of would work best.

I've loved this world, did I have problems with it? Yes. An seeing it with the Pathfinder rule set would be great.
As a DM I have used a version of the Warders for years, they were basically humanoid familiars, that was more or less a linked bodyguard. The only exception was that I made them available to all casters both divine and arcane.
But seeing this updated for PF if great. An to have the Warder as a Template is a great idea. That way he/she can continue to improve his/her base class to better protect their Ward.
Having just looked at the GoogleDoc, where are the WolfBrothers and other PrC'c?

Cause I havent' been able to develop them yet. I have little babies, a job at a creative agency, and a slew of other priorities (including reading the final book in the series) that just dont' let me devote the time to this to get all the pieces developed out in a timely manner.

That said, here are my notes on a few of them...

I (finally) had a chance to look over the Dremscarred Press psionic material. First, DSP did a great job with it on the whole. Second, I would agree that using the power points as the starting concept for initiate/wilder is a great idea. Psychic enervation is a fine analogy for burning out on the Source, and you could probably use the overchanneling-hazard table directly for the consequences for failing to maintain composure while overchanneling. At this point, I think the only thing to consider is how to deal with additional weaves per day and pp reserve might interact: are the additional weaves given in the form of power points or are they more in line with spell slots?

Do you mean what impact a high channeling stat (charisma for men; wisdom for women) would have on a channeler's ability to create weaves in a day?

If so, then I'd suggest it's simply a matter of gaining additional pp's per day.

If thats not what you meant, let me know.

Secondarily, as of the last time i had gotten to work on this project, I was pouring my time into creating a secondary (home-brew, from scratch) channeling system called the Channeling Fatigue system. It's unfinished and untested, but it seems interesting to me.

Borrowing DSP's psionic system has the benefit of being... ya know... completed. :)

Yeah, working with complete mechanics makes it much easier to understand interactions.

No, I don't think there is an issue with having high gender-tied attribute score: both DSP's work and the WoT book take these into account. At present, I'm not sure how to deal with WoT's overchannel mechanic. I don't have the book on me, but as I remember there are a few options when overchanneling: increased effective caster level, increased weave level, and channeling with no slots available.

The psionic Wilder has Wild Surge to increase effective caster level, but presently there isn't a clear analogy of how to achieve higher weave levels or how to cast a weave without pps remaining. Again, I don't have the WoT book on me, but it may be simple enough to use the WoT Overchannel rules instead of (or in conjunction with) the DSP rules. That or just add a feat/ability that allows does something like the following.

Alternate Channel I (Simple Channeling):
When using the Wild Surge ability, instead of increasing your effective manifester level, you may cast a weave of level one less than the bonus of Wild Surge without paying its power point cost. A weave cast in this way may not be augmented. Consult the WoT overchannel table for how to resolve enervation.

For example, Chani, a 3rd level Wilder could cast a 0th or 1st level weave with out paying the pp cost. Leto, a 15th level Wilder, could use ~this~ to cast a weave of up to 4th level without paying its pp cost.

Alternate Channel II (Expanded Channel):
When using the Wild Surge ability, instead of increasing your effective manifester level, you may cast a weave of higher level than you could normally. The level of the weave you can cast is equal to your highest level weave plus two less than your Wild Surge bonus. Consult the WoT overchannel table for how to resolve enervation.

Looking at Chani and Leto again (see Alt Channel I), Chani can not use ~this~ ability to gain higher level weaves. However, Letocould use ~this~ to cast a weave of up to 10th level.

Welp, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, might as well make this thread my first post. I might as well hop on this bandwagon and give what aid I can.

Some useful information: I have been playing WOTRPG/D&D 3.5 hybrid with some of my friends since I was around 13 or so. (Used WOT world, Channeling mechanics, and importing monsters and spells from D&D.)

When I heard about pathfinder, I bought the PDF core rulebooks and began keeping my eye on the game... thinking that I may be able to transfer over to it at some point.

That being said, My friend and DM did a painstaking conversion in order to convert D&D spells into Wheel of Time Weaves, (and he is STILL working on it)

Since Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 are practically kissing cousins, Maybe you guys might find his conversion notes useful...

If you want, I could direct him to this thread to give another set of hands; he would probably be thrilled with the challenge, when he's not at work, anyway...

As for me, I will do what I can, and applaud your efforts.

Okay, now that that is out of the way here is a question that I wanted to bring up:

What about the madness rating? How would you go about implementing that? Would you pull it directly from the Core Rulebook, use the rules from pathfinder, or just ignore it entirely?

My homebrew world is based heavily off the WoT series (in a past/future age).

I'll see if I can dig up some of my conversion stuff (although I've been working on this world since I was 14 so some may not be useful).

A proper conversion lies within. All sorts of worthy conversion.

Been a while since this was updated... any work on it still?

Ar'ruum:

Probably not. I haven't had a chance to, though perhaps others did. The link I posted in August has a pretty good write-up for a conversion.

The old links on the previous page of this thread still takes you to what we did have. Did you have something in mind to do?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I certainly haven't touched any of my stuff in a while, though it's all still up and accessible.

I'm always open to hearing folks's thoughts on my conversion materials, but it's missing what is probably one of the most central pieces of the setting... Channeling rules.

So I don't expect much until I find the time (and motivation) to finish that out.

... i really should get back on it, though. :(

Well I haven't read all 4 pages, but if anyone's interested - here is a pathfinder update I've been working on for the WoT series:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Sa_PtVRRJGUDJJVHJSdjVVN0E/edit?usp=shari ng

So far it includes classes, prestige classes, skills, feats, chenneling system update + optional alternative system (the advantages and disadvantages are described in the document) and some other minor changes.

The basic idea was to update, but keep the original structure as much as possible. For example, all the classes remain (changed, of course), as well as the original prestige classes + the Inquisitor prestige class. Some feats were changed, as well as some skills, and many feats were added (including many channeling feats.

What I lack is a list of weaves from later books. While I've read the whole series, I've not kept track of the weaves, and many are not described in the original book. I've attempted to locate a list of weaves appearing in the books but so far with no success. If anyone wants to help with that, I'll be happy to add that in.

Is anyone still interested in this? I can publish my latest updates tomorrow if you'd like, since I see the link no longer works and there were a lot of changes (like adding weave tables of every level, new weaves and frats, etc.).

I love Wheel of time. Favorite series. Ever. I love pathfinder. How come nobody ever told me this was a thing?

Edit: Yes I want to see this.

I'm game to take a look at the changes, too, Aulrick.

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=56DE7D2AE3EBC433!1343&authkey=!AJ EvLTgHt5waz0Q&ithint=file%2c.docx

This is the latest link.
The basic idea was to keep the original structure of the game as much as possible. This includes the classes and prestige classes (added one prestige class), though they were heavily modified. The channeling system was changed to resemble the books more closely (specifically, there was a fatigue system added, as well as an optional pool point system for even greater flexibility).
Feats, skills, weaves etc., are all there.
I am still adding new weaves if I remember them from the books or find them in other sources. If anyone remembers a weave which doesn't appear on the list, please tell me so I can add it.
Also any other comments are welcomes, as I am always looking to improve this.

Hopefully I'll have a running test group soon.

Links not working for me...

That's odd. I copy-paste it to my browser and it brings up the word document in read-only format (that's how I asked for it).
It's not clickable, just copy paste it.

I get "This item might not exist or is no longer available"

Well I really don't know what to tell you :\ It works fine for me.

Can anyone else confirm if it works or not?

Hey, just found this thread and loving everything in it.

In response to your update, I like a good bit of what I see in it (probably the most complete conversion yet). I might like to add in a bit of Eben the Quiet's sword form ideas, but this looks like a great resource.

A couple things: for the classes without HD listed, are those just going to use the same as in the WoT rpg book?

And the Commander PrC requires Mounted Combat, yet suggests that Aiel Commanders would be possible (despite the fact that algai'd'siswai can't ever take Mounted Combat, a few pages earlier). Just an incongruity I noticed.

I'll add the missing HD, but if I recall correctly, I didn't change any of them anyway. Will check.

As for the commander - where is it written she can be Aiel? Aiel cannot ride, therefor cannot be a commander. I'll correct it if it's implied.

The basic rule for PrC is that the restrictions of the original character still imply. For example, Aiel cannot take any points in the Ride skill, so an Aiel with a prestige class cannot have any ranks in Ride either.

Anything else needs fixing? Especially the channeling system, new feats and such. Though comments on the class abilities are always welcomed, since it's a mix of existing abilities from various books and made up ones.

Right, so I checked what you said. Classes with no HD are those in which the HD didn't change. However, since I want this document to be as complete as possible so people won't have to go back to the original book all the time, I'll add those soon. Good call.

Any other remarks?
I'll be starting a playtest group soon, so now is the time to give me all your comments :)

Latest update:
I've added all the HD for every class.
Also I added tables for weaves by talent (in addition to the weaves by level).
This is important for several reasons: tables by level are important since all channelers can use weaves of up to 1-3 levels depending on class (initiates 1st level and wilders 3rd level).
The tables by talents are important for players to search for weaves within their talents. Each such table has all the details from the previous table, except instead of the talent column there is now a level column at the begining of the table.

In addition I made some minor changes to grammar and some minor twiking to fix some minor issues with balance and such.

The link remains the same, so I'll still be happy for any remarks!

For those who find it easier to work with a pdf, I have prepared this version: http://1drv.ms/1nCNNjh

Aulrick Vendour wrote:

The country/organization table under "Oath of Fealty" for the Commander lists Aiel as an option, with their sworn enemy as Cairhienin. That's what I meant by implying that Aiel can be Commanders.

Ah, that's actually a VERY good point. I never thought of that!
I'll remove that row ASAP.

I already made a lot of changes so the PDF isn't really up to date yet (word document is though). Will recreate it when I'm done editing and stuff.

OK guys I could REALLY use some help now...
I modified the Algai'd'siswai's Flurry of blows to the Pathfinder version... But I think now he's way too strong... By level 8 he has 4 attacks, and by level 16 it's 7 attacks.
The thing is, Flurry of Blows was originally designed for the Monk, which has less attacks and lower BAB then the fighter. I chose to use fighter statistics for the Aiel because it more closely resembles to the books, and that's how it is in the original WoT RPG.
But when I adjust it to Pathfinder, the Flurry of Blows is way too powerful. I thought of maybe using the original 3.5 Monk Flurry of Blows, without the reduction in the BAB penalty (so at level 16 he'll have 6 attacks instead of 7), but that's still somewhat powerful, isn't it?

Scarab Sages

Well the only real benefit from flurry for a full BAB class is the extra attacks, right? Basiclly just the TWF tree for free. Maybe just knock it down a peg. Give them one additional attack at 8, and two at 16. That gives them 50% more attacks than without flurry, but all at the typical -2.

Level 8 would be +6/+6/+1 instead of +8/+3
Level 16 would be +14/+14/+9/+9/+4/-1 instead of +16/+11/+6/+1.

This is completely without reading the document you posted though. I just now found this thread, and it makes me happy.

Well the Second attack is at -5, so it'll be +14/+14/+11/+9/+4/-1, since the Flurry of Blows attacks are from the max BAB. So +16 will become +14/+14/+11, +11 will become +9, +6 will become +4 and +1 will become -1...

I built two tables, one for the regular PF version, the other for the 3.5 variaty:
PF:
-1/-1
+0/+0
+1/+1
+2/+2
+3/+3
+4/+4/-1
+5/+5/+0
+6/+6/+3/+1
+7/+7/+4/+2
+8/+8/+5/+3
+9/+9/+6/+4/-1
+10/+10/+7/+5/+0
+11/+11/+8/+6/+1
+12/+12/+9/+7/+2
+13/+13/+10/+8/+5/+3
+14/+14/+11/+9/+6/+4/-1
+15/+15/+12/+10/+7/+5/+0
+16/+16/+13/+11/+8/+6/+1
+17/+17/+14/+12/+9/+7/+2
+18/+18/+15/+13/+10/+8/+3

3.5:
-1/-1
+0/+0
+1/+1
+2/+2
+3/+3
+4/+4/-1
+5/+5/+0
+6/+6/+1
+7/+7/+2
+8/+8/+3
+9/+9/+6/+4/-1
+10/+10/+7/+5/+0
+11/+11/+8/+6/+1
+12/+12/+9/+7/+2
+13/+13/+10/+8/+3
+14/+14/+11/+9/+4/-1
+15/+15/+12/+10/+5/+0
+16/+16/+13/+11/+6/+1
+17/+17/+14/+12/+7/+2
+18/+18/+15/+13/+8/+3

Found this thread just now while looking for conversion ideas on the Channelers. Liking where this seems to be going, though I haven't checked any of the links yet. Thought I'd give the thread a Bump.

Hi!
This project has been finished a while ago. Here is the latest link, though they seem to stop working after a while, so get it while you can: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?page=view&resid=56DE7D2AE3EBC433!21616& amp;authkey=!ACTmATDigfbMQKI

With the release of D&D 5th edition, I have started working on an upgrade to that, and as that's what I'm playing, it's most likely that's the only thing that will get relatively regular updates: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?page=view&resid=56DE7D2AE3EBC433!7653&a mp;authkey=!AIxedr1qzSCITUI

Have fun you guys!

The files are gone already :( Would appreciate a re-upload if you can find the time!

Sure thing. Try this one:

Gone again! Any chance of another re-upload?

Dotting for interest

Just a note for you guys, perhaps you should look at the Kineticist from Occult Adventures.
They 'weave' elements and aether(or spirit if you prefer) to create effects.
'Burn' to represent the effect of channeling too much at once.
No spell slot stuff.

Hey, just found this thread. Any chance on getting the file reuploaded for the conversion?

Aulrick hasn't been around in a while. I, too, would love access to his creation. Perhaps private message him?
