Your Highness - a movie for everyone who's ever played a comical D&D campaign

A trailer that contains spectacular amounts of swearing and should not be viewed at work.

This looks amusing (in a very lowbrow, KROD MANDOON-but-done-right kind o way), especially for anyone who's ever played a non-serious D&D campaign. I once had a player who liked playing mages who is the wizard in this down to a tee ("How are you going to do that?", "Magic, motherf!!!!").

Plus, if the humour doesn't work for you, you get to see Natalie Portman in metallic armour underwear.

I'm running to seat outside of the theater right now!!!!!!!!!
Motherfu****!!!!!!!

Could be good...!

Silver Crusade

I hate to admit it but this is probably going to be the most accurate D&D-ish movie ever.

I have to agree and I don't know whether that makes me happy or sad.

By the way, who saw "Wrath of the Dragon God"? Who liked it? I only liked the elven girl wizard, both as a char and as she was realized

Why is that a bad thing, yes serious fantasy movies are great, but once in a while a fun adventure romp with some low-brow humor is okay if it's done well. I repeat if it's done well, I don't want some "Epic Movie" BS, but this looks like it'll be quite enjoyable on the level of "The Gamers" movies.

Yeah, the trailer does not have me going, 'ugh', like those epic movie trailers. I'm actually looking forward to this film.

If the movie is half as good as the trailer is, I will be pleased.

Same here! I just hope the trailer hasn't shown us half the movie...

If the PCs say what is actually said by the players at the table then yes.

This will be D&D with the player-to-PC language filter turned off.

Heh. Even if it has, the other half would likely be worth seeing. :)

It's the "Princess Bride" of the 21st Century...

With the Princess being from the other side of the tracks, of course...

It's not so much a condemnation of this movie so much as a knocking what we've been handed before. ;)

Also, this movie didn't embarrass me on behalf of the actors, so that's one leg up over Epic Movie.

(not being made by #$%@ing Setzer and Friedburg being the other leg)

Liberty's Edge

This movie looks hilarious from the trailer. I will probably try to see it in the theater.

Gawd, I hope it doesn't suck...

we saw episode 1, right?

I got suspicious when they asked me for my birthday, so I put in a fake one. Now it won't let me view the video. Oh well. :-)

Gotta love the camel in a medieval town.

Just youtube it.

On a side note, thanks to this thread I have now discovered Krod Mandoon... which I thoroughly enjoyed :)

Awesome Brit Humor.

it should be good... well better than the book of darkness film....

Sovereign Court

It's like someone's been recording my Friday night Council of Thieves sessions and sold them to the studios..... LOL!

These guys are hilarious and I can totally see them pulling something this messed up off. If it's near as good as Pineapple Express it'll be awesome.

I'm not a fan of profanity and slapstick, but this looks funny.

There are some big names in it, so it might be pretty good.

As far as humor in the game, that's probably what I like best about it. There should be some good laughs at the table. I mean really, just look at what you're doing!

I haven't seen a movie in the movies in the theater since Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy came out, looks like I might go again.

I will be going to see this.

I'm excited, but with cautious reserve. I remember going to see Kick Ass in the theater and never seeing the trailer and being surprised at how good the movie was (7/10). This I believe we saw half of good parts of the movie already in the trailer, but will STILL see it.

I wonder if this will be Natalie Portman's "Pricess leia slave bikini costume" that will haunt her for the rest of career like Carrie Fisher?

It will not. Didn't you see the movie Closer, where she plays a stripper? if not, you should... yes.... you SHOULD.

We did, and we rejoiced because it was actually pretty good, even if it was not as perfect as we wished it could be! :)

I work with metallic underwear all the time, I put it on V4 at least . . . *counts* Okay, I don't use metallic underwear on a Victoria 4 3D model, but I can bring her up in Deviant Art.

This movie ain't my taste, though. Yeah, you can call me a hypocrite, since when my players relax, they go into this stuff.

I loved Krod Mandoon. I just found the trailer for this movie - after seeing it on TV of all places and sadly I had to look it up on the internet to make sure it was real.

But it looks awesome! I can't wait to see it.

It was a pleasant surprise to find that her bikini costume was much much smaller in the restricted trailer than in the all audiences trailer. They must have filmed that scene so many times...

Or added/trimmed post production. On the Mummy Returns, when you look at the trailer for the Scorpion King the scene where Kelly Hu pops out out of the pool, you can see the straps to her top. In the movie, they've been digitally cleaned out.

Mmmmmm Kelly Hu....

Yeah, now that you mention it, they did that to Jessica Alba for Machete too.

I'd still prefer to think though that Natalie Portman is a good enough sport to do a few hundred takes of that scene with varying degrees of coverage, you know, for "art".

The Exchange

Oh dear god its even worse...and its got Natalie Portman in it...

Sighs..Always with the negative vibes ..

Sovereign Court

He's in aussie-stralia right? The vibes go backwards.

Hope the film is awesome. Also hope it is still in theatres once exams are finished.

The Exchange

Minus the Stupid...I would expect a quality Dungeons and Dragons/Pathfinder Film to be directed toward an Adult Audience - so that we can get all the horror and violence of some awesome story like the Skinsaw Murders...

+1

I was watching the trailer thinking to myself "Yeah, this sounds just like a bad night around my gaming table..."

It's quite sad that a D&Dish movie must be parodical to be... uh... "appreciable" and that if it tries to be serious it becomes a parody in another way.

Contributor

Depends on the movie. Prince Caspian was plenty D&Dish and played straight and there have been others over the years.

The way I'm seeing this is as a direct heir to the short-lived but beloved series from the 80s, Wizards and Warriors, which was also played for laughs, but was on tv so couldn't be quite so crude.

This? The joke pattern is to give the fantasy melodrama set-up ("I shall make you love me!" "How could you ever make me love you?") and then give a blunt raunchy real-world answer.

And the anti-hero and his comic ditzy manservant? Someone was obviously watching and appreciating Black Adder.

Liberty's Edge

So, this opens tonight. Looking forward to seeing some reviews in the next day or two.

Dark Archive

It was funny. I was reminded of D&D games from jr. high and high school. (Okay, some adult games, too. =D )

Don't go with the attitude that this had better be a good/accurate/mature take on D&D, it's subject matter and participants.

If you're Yellow Dingo, skip it and stick with eating people's babies.

Grand Lodge

I've had a free ticket for this ever since I picked up the Scott Pilgrim BD and today my wife and I will be cashing that in.

I loved it, best R rated fantasy comedy ever.

This was better than the live action D&D movies. At least this movie wasn't taking itself seriously.

It's essentially an extension of Pineapple Express. I swear ... with James Franco, I can't tell if he's acting or if he's actually stoned. Heh.

Movie Spoiler:
New favorite phrase is The F#@kening - obvious reference to Highlander.
