As the troll closes in Fredrich delivers a telling blow opening a great rent in the creatures side.
Aude comments dryly on the fighters call to arms as Kegmar moves around the troll keeping out off its reach whilst drawing his weapon.
Seeing that parley is not going to be an option here Eltariel begins to cast this however gives the troll an opening to swipe at her with a claw..
Troll AoO 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Critical Confirm 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
The elven maid's armour holds and the blow is not as dangerous as it might have been she grits her teeth and completes the spell and a fire erupts from her hands scorching the trolls hide and cauterising the wound from the hammer preventing its regeneration
Eltariel concentration check DC 231d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27

Layjianis arrow misses sailing over the brutes shoulder to impact on the ground outside the Smithy with a burst of flame
William to act
William The Lionheart |
Ouch, bad roll there. clearly my character was picking dirt out of his toe nails before combat. Also, can I make a suggestion and to speed things up to roll all our inititive? Don't know how the rest of you think about that, it's just a suggestion
William, seeing his new found companions in danger focuses his chi, charging at the creature with his fist set ablaze. Using charge with Elemental Fist. Fire energy.
Charge: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 +2 from Charging and now taking a -2 penalty to AC
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Fire DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5

William rushes in and delivers a cunning blow..

Total damage on Frederich 41
The fighters armour might as well be parchment against the blows and in addition the troll rends Frederich as it readies itself to attack again
Fredrich Mustenburg |
Geez how did you jury rig the dice roller ;-)
Fredrich surprised at the ferocity of the beast knows he needs to end this soon.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 LH Attack (Power attack)*
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 LH Attack (Power attack)*
(*) +2 more is flanking was achieved
1d12 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
1d12 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21
then steps back five feet, the pain beginning to announce it's presence.
Fredrich should now be 15' away...also do you have a problem with me using Invisible Castle and cut/pasting the results. I really hate the forum roller, and it hates me as well
William The Lionheart |
William will 5ft step and attempt to flank with someoene. The idea is to try and get flanking by 5fting every round to try and get in position.
"Let us fell this beast!"
Elemental Fist 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 fire: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Per the rules I can use elemental fist only level per day so:
4/6 after this use. Get's used even if I miss as I declared it.
Is the fire damage effecting it differently?
Layjiani |
Angered by her miss and determined to end this abomination before it can do further injury to any of her allies the archer takes a deep breath, holds it, and let's fly another alchemists arrow.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18(Using Deadly Aim; +2 if Troll is considered a monstrous humanoid)
Damage:1d8 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 (+2 if Troll is considered a monstrous humanoid, plus damage from alchemists fire)
Wellard rolling all the initiatives is A-OK with me
DM Wellard |
Trolls are Giants in PF
No problem with Fred using IC..which hates me as much as the forum roller hates you...lol
Posting for Kegmar as he hasn't responded..
Kegmar charges in from behind the beast his Dorn Dergar swinging low at its knees and bringig it crashing to the floor.
Dorn Dergar charging, flanking1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Damage 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Eltariels fire bolt finishes it off.
Kegmar Krausenbrew |
Ah, at least the charging/flanking made a "4" a hit!
Kegmar grins at Fredrich as the troll begins to stumble about, and begins to suggest aloud, "Now all 'e need is a bit o'fi---" when Eltariel's fiery bolt impales the brute, dropping it dead.
"Aye, that'll work jes feyn" he nods, as he prods the monstrosity with the end of his dwarven weapon.
"I dun' think a troll weld act alone, so we should dew 'er best to be wary..."
William The Lionheart |
Round 3 action
William will take another 5ft step if needed to flank with someone.
Am I flanking with anyone?
Elemental Fist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 +2 to result if flanking, I've made a quarter of the way around it by now.
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Fire DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
3/6 now, hopefully I hit harder than my first two posts.

Am I flanking with anyone?
Elemental Fist: 1d20+8 +2 to result if flanking, I've made a quarter of the way around it by now.
Damage: 1d8+3 Fire DMG: 2d6
** spoiler omitted **
I think it's dead
Layjiani |
Layjini, bow still in hand and arrow knocked, spends some time carefully tracking back the path of teh troll, to see where it came from and to make sure there are no more of them. She of course takes all caution, walking as silently as possible.
DM Aron Marczylo |
The troll wears rusted halfplate armor. He carries a skinning knife, a wineskin full of goblin blood, and a rawhide shoulder bag containing two vials of alchemist’s fire, six skunk pelts, and a silver chalice inlaid with sapphires worth 450 gp
William looks at the items and turns to the group.
"I have no interest in any of this. Perhaps the item could be held by someone until we can sell it at a later date?" William suggests.Fredrich Mustenburg |
Crap, DM Aron is me in case I confuse anyone, sorry about that. Days of playing Fable 3 has clearly melted my brain.
"Well...is there any other building we should enter? I doupt there are any survivors apart from the trees." William looks around curiously at other buildings.
"I would expect that mangy mutt is glad we didn't take that outlook an hour ago". "Eltariel is right". "Let's finish up here before moving on", the ever stoic Fredrich states.
DM Wellard |
As you make your way to the huge white farmhouse, you can’t miss the enormous hole burnt into the western wall. You can see directly into what was once a full living space and is now only a charred shell. The house’s once well-maintained exterior is now overgrown and trampled down.
There is a large horse pen and stable in the rear of the house, but you see no animals. Part of the fence has been knocked down.
You find five trees in various rooms within..they are scorched but still living.
In one of the bedrooms you find a journal of a young woman the last three entries of which are reproduced below
Friday
When I awoke this morning I meant to dress and take my walk past the stables to see (and be seen by!) dear Yonneth. How I hope that one day he will take notice of a plain farm girl like myself. Aye, me. I have changed my plans – I do not feel quite myself and I fear to be seen less than perfect.Indeed, I feel thick as a pot of soup. Best I stay home today anyhow – father complains of pains in his back and I must help him feed the horses. My destiny must be ruled by the darkest of stars forsuch a fate to be mine.
Saturday
I fear this might be my last entry, dearest friend journal, as I plan to hide myself away to the highest cliff I can find and throw myself off. I would rather die than live with whatever curse has been inflicted upon me. This morning I awoke to find my hair had turned to leaves. I look like some mad oak tree! Oh, to find whatever witch hexed me thus! I am certain it is Quella, the barmaid – she is jealous of the bond that she sees growing between Yonneth and myself. Aye me, what shall I do?
Sunday
Oh Yonneth – what has become of all of us? I see that now my fate is the fate of everyone in the Fork – we are a victim of the same terrible curse. I can take no food or drink, and not even water comforts me – the water from the well tastes strange. Will I die? Will I dream? Oh Yonneth –
Layjiani |
Growing more and more angry and disturbed by the series of events and tragadies to afflict this poor town, Layjiani is unusually affected by the journal of the young woman. Fighting down her anger and her sorrow, nevertheless her eyes still glisten as she says with passion "This one do swear now to punish those repsponsible for this! And as well to do all in this one's power to help restore these unfortunate souls."
Taking a breath to calm herself she continues "Another thought do occur as well-As it do seem clear from this journal, the affliction did take place over several days, and it do no seem to this one that a mad Treant would be here to poison the well without the townsfolk no take of notice. Thus it do seem that the Treat do have help in this posioning of the town, likely human help."
And as this last is said fierce anger flashes in her eyes again at the thought that someone could do such a terrible thing to their fellow townspeople.
Just in case you haven't already rolled for it, Layjiani does conduct a through search of the house as well, taking 20
DM Wellard |
Layjiani's search turns up a secret compartment in the hearth, hiding 55 platinum pieces, six pieces of heirloom gold and ruby jewelry (worth a total of 600 gp), and two potion bottles.
Meanwhile Kegmars alchemical expertise identifies the poison as Blackmoss..a particularly insidious substance which requires careful manufacture..this poisoning was deliberate.
Aude COOPER |
" I have to conduct a funeral for the troll. It should not take to much time.
Also did you notice there are almost no animals in there . I would think the bugbears did take them with them . Layjiani , could you confirm this for me ?
Finally , all those who are still hurt , can you speak up and come near me so I'll be able to heal you"
Layjiani |
Layjiani passes the items to Eltariel saying "Please do keep these safe to be returned to the owners once we restore them."
Then, her emotional state still on high, when Aude mentions her intentions to conduct a funeral for the Troll the Ranger's prejudices come flashing out "What! You do think to conduct a funeral for that abomination yet plan to leave the human smith to rot! This one shall attend to his rites herself if necessary, but never shall this one waste valuable time which could be spent seeking help for these other poor souls while you do say your silly prayers over evil scum like that Troll!"
Aude COOPER |
Thanks you , Eltariel
I must admit trolls are not usually reputed to become undead but it has been known to happen so better safe than sorry .
And you are right , I will have to do the same for the smith but I would prefer to just explain to him that I will try to see if we can rescue his family if he had one. It would be better for his burial to be done in presence of his family if possible.
Actually, I forgot about him
Layjiani |
Once the command is given to begin seeking the buhgbears Layjiani eagerly takes off after her prey. She quoickly takes point, distancing herself enough from the others that the noise of their progress does not disturb her silent movement through the forest.
On gurad with bow drawn and arrow ready the hunter silently and skillfully seeks her prey

Kegmar Krausenbrew |
Kegmar grins up at Fredrich at the idea of hunting bugbears, following closely to the warrior.
"Ach, once I had a greet stand-off with'a band o'de bear-bugs. Stole me clan's treasure ey' did. Ferocious beasties they be, but no match fer us."
Sorry for sporadic posting, end of year => lots of work responsibilities popping up in Nov/Dec.
DM Wellard |
The dog leads you unerringly though the woods surrounding the hamlet for about 5 miles until You come to a clearing and a small hill. A lone tree dominates the landscape, huge and half-barren of leaves. The base of the tree is hollowed, with a lattice of roots loosely covering the outside. The dog stops here and barks
Layjiani |
Handle Animal:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Attempting to silence the dog, Layjiani quickly checks for any signs of traps and takes care of any locks there may be on the gate.

Disable Device:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Layjiani |
Layjiani waits for the others to catch up and shows them the hole. If the decision is made to enter the scout will take out a linen handkerchef she has and ask Eltariel to cast a simple light spell on it.
Then taking the small soft piece of cloth and balling it up in the hand which holds the bow the stealthy ranger can control exactly how much light escapes from it.
Allowing only a small sliver enough for her to see by Layjiani then proceds with her normal quiet caution into the hole.
Having noticed and been impressed by the stealth of the newest member of the team she silently indicates to William that he may accompany her if he wishes.
