Hi James,

Are the dinosaurs in Golarion feathered as science seems to be implying was the case here on Earth? (I.e. feathered Allosauruses, Deionychus)

Yes, but none that I'm gonna reveal here in this thread—I'd rather present that info in a more widespread and easily referenced format.

Paint revolutionary slogans on the nearest government building?

Help a poor knight get out of a debt to the Sheriff?

Make a Hellknighg look stupid?

And the twist is, as a goddess of rebels, Milani only grants boons to those who don't perform obediences (and Filippo Inzaghi, for some reason).

Some are, yes. For example, check the art for the velociraptor in Bestiary 4.

Did you have any particular inspirations in mind when you wrote, "Ten Fun Facts About Goblins"?

I ask because, for the second AP in a row, I am letting my two boys run all the goblins in the campaign. And though they have never read those facts, they so epitomize them in their goblin-y behavior that it's scary to watch.

Did you have a couple of younglings playing goblins for you, or did you brilliantly write goblins on the fly as "enemies played by young boys" without knowing just how accurate you were being?

Nope. I pretty much made all those goblin facts up; no real inspiration other than a lifetime spent immersed in horror and fantasy stories.
Does this mean that young boys without parental guidance are the embodiment of all horror?
Nope. That'd be clowns and/or tsunamis.

Child clowns / Clown Child?

If you did have a party, who would you invite?
Which Pathfinder characters would throw the best party?

Speaking of clowns, have you been watching American Horror Story: Freakshow?

How do you like to handle larger and smaller magical items in your campaigns? It's unfortunate for a party to defeat the big bad boss who happens to be Huge and they can't utilize the magical treasure the boss was wearing. While they can always sell it for some money, it's unfortunate they can't use that specific item, or even get anything out of it until they trudge back to town.

This is specifically concerning wondrous items, not magic armor or weapons.

1) The acting was better, the effects were better, the directing was better, the pacing was better. Just all around better.

2) I did indeed read the book version. The ending of the remake was much closer to the ending of the book than the original, which couldn't do what happened there, obviously, for the sheer scale of what happened.

3) Not really. There are hints, but where her powers come from isn't the point. That said, if you read ALL of King's novels, there's a metaplot that actually DOES tie most of his novels together, and particularly explains why several of his characters have psychic powers.

Spoiler:
The Dark Tower books, particularly the last one, lays it all out.

Dear James,

I must say i am not very familiar with deities in pathfinder. so my first question is what is the difference between a divine deity and a non-divine deity(obv power i assume)? the next question is how powerful are different deities, or is it just determined by me as the GM? do you use the divine ranks system from D20SRD or your own system? for example, would someone like Aroden who is a mortal who attained godhood be a divine diety or non-divine? and would he be closer to a demigods level of power or closer to Asmodeus who is a top tier level of power and a divine deity?

Sczarni

Mr Jacobs,

I understand you are not the one that dictates what rules apply and what don't, but I believe your opinion strongly applies to the majority of questions as you have a closer understanding to how Pathfinder is meant to be played. This leads us to the question I wish to ask you.

Does this FAQ apply to the Advanced Class Guide as well?

Short Summary: There has been a lot of hubbub going on about certain features stacking or not stacking between normal classes and advanced classes from the advanced class guide, who's parent classes are unrelated; ie 1. Flurry of Blows from Sacred Fist and Master of Many Styles Monk Levels for the purpose of determining the growth and overall strength of Flurry of Blows. 2. Whether or not Sacred Fist even gets Flurry of Blows, when mixed with Master of Many Styles(which gives up Flurry of Blows). 3. Zen Archer + Sacred Fist and how Flurry of Blows is calculated

Personally, with no reflection of others, I'm in the belief that it does not, since this FAQ was created specifically for classes before the ACG, and that the ACG has it's own clause(Parent Classes) written to handle itself. The Sacred Fist doesn't have Monk as a Parent Class, so it would be free of this restriction.

There are, of course, opposite views. Personally, with no reflection of others, I also feel like this may partially or fully apply to ACG as well.

If you can spare the time, your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

The word "Divine" means "of, from, or like a god." In the game, the term is used to refer to a category of spells utilized by characters who base their magic on faith and religion, rather than study or fortune (that's arcane magic).

It's not a word we generally use to classify deities, since it's more accurate to use as a word to quantify things the deities touch, create, or are associated with.

We do NOT use the D20 SRD's Deities & Demigods rules, and do not use divine ranks.

We have three tiers of god/goddess in the game.

Deity: This is the most powerful. They grant access to 5 domains and 5 subdomains, and do not have stats. They can essentially do whatever they want, and while they can be killed, those methods vary by deity and are generally NOT things that most heroes can do, since these deities don't have stats, and thus don't have hit points and can decide to do whatever they want if they wish to attack you. They are purely in the realm of GM control, and are a case where a GM can do whatever he/she wants and ignore the rules. They are not meant to be things your PCs directly fight, but you can certainly interact with them. The core 20 gods of the Pathfinder setting are good examples of deities.

Demigod: This is the next tier down in power from deity. A demigod grants access to 4 domains and 4 subdomains, and has stats. Almost all demigods are in the range of CR 26 to CR 30. Demon lords, empyreal lords, and archdevils are good examples of demigods.

Quasi-deities: This is the least powerful tier. A quasi-deity can grant access to up to 4 domains and 4 subdomains, but most of them grant access to fewer. They have stats, and can be any CR from 25 on down, but most of them tend to be higher CR. The Divine Source mythic ability is one way a PC can gain the ability to grant spells to followers, and thus become a quasi-deity. Treerazer is an example of a quasi-deity.

This is a textbook example of the type of question that I'm not interested in answering, and needs to be asked in the proper forums or messageboards elsewhere on Paizo.com. Whether or not an FAQ applies to an FAQ is kind of meta, but it's not something I'm gonna answer, since that'd probably annoy the design team. I'll let them answer those kinds of questions.

And since there's been too many cases of people mistaking my opinions or rulings as design team rulings, and since I want to respect the design team's role in the company, I'm not gonna be giving out my own opinions here on such matters.

Double weapons cost twice as much, exactly as if you were buying two adamantine weapons. Double weapons are not really intended to be cost-saving options for two weapon fighters.

Lots and lots of ways. Two examples would bee the spells consecrate and hallow.

Weapons and armor do not, however.

Consecrate only lasts a few hours and Hallow is very expensive. Is there anything more accessible to NPCs?

1- What precautions could a village take to prevent undead from rising in its cemetery?

2- Generally speaking, if a village somehow got a hallowed ground, how willing would the villages be to use it as burial ground for murderers and other potential undead-to-be?

3- How common is spontaneous undead rising in areas that are neither particularly holy nor profane?

4- How much does the average Golarion citizen know about undead?

Hallow is expensive but it lasts pretty much forever. But no... there's not an inexpensive solution other than to arrange to have your NPC departed buried in hallowed ground, which many churches in large towns or cities would of course have.

1) Hallow. Again... it's permanent. All you need is a cleric to have cast it at some point in the past and you're set. The fact that undead uprisings are actually NOT as common as adventures would make you think is also a factor.

2) That's kind of the whole point, so I'd say EXCEPTIONALLY willing. But again... undead uprisings aren't as common as you think.

3) Very rare. But frightening enough to spread the word fast, or to linger for centuries in legend.

4) What you'd get on a DC 10 Knowledge (religion) check—they're scary and evil and dangerous and lots of misinformation.

1) No. I generally don't take part in playtests due to time constraints from the rest of my job.

2) I know when it will start but it's not something we're publicly announcing yet.

3) None, really, as I haven't actually been that involved in the book. Been finishing up Iron Gods and starting up Hell's Rebels, and taking vacation days in one of the few months of the year I can do so without destroying the schedule.

4) None of that artwork nor its sketches have come in yet.

1- I see. I was more in doubt about smaller villages that can't afford the Hallow spell.

2- I didn't think they were common. I was pretty unsure of how often they happen. I can see villagers refusing to bury murderers and other criminals in what they see as "holy ground" for judging them as unworthy of it and not worrying about it precisely because undead uprising are uncommon (which ironically, could be the very cause of the undead uprise).

Thanks for the answers. :)

I would also say it depends on the kind of Undead; destroying the bodies might be good for corporeal undeads, incorporeal undeads probably require magic, or the happy life and peaceful death.

So, with the Test of the Starstone now being detailed in Mythic Origins as a possible source of mythic power, does that mean that rank 10 mythic characters are or can become gods, is there some secret harder Test of the Starstone that Aroden, Iomedae, Norgorber, and Cayden found, or what? Yes, it should all be Golarion-compatible. I know I had to oversee some significant changes to a few entries to ensure that was the case, at least.

If the rulebooks have to be world-neutral... then it's my great hope that they don't simultaneously be non-compatible with Golarion.

Good evening James! It's been a while (new jobs soak up time), but I've finally got around to being back on the forums, and thought up a few new questions.

1. Would Goka be the only place in Tian Xia to have a small chance of finding tech items?
2. Though it's setting neutral, going off Bezravnis' bestiary entrance I'd wager he's in Shaguang. Is that a smart bet?
3. If you guys ever get to make a Kaiju based AP, do you think you'd be able to do a Kaiju per book for the end-of-the-book bestiary?
4. Kind of a weird question, but is there outer space in the shadow plane? Is planet hopping to shadow planets possible via spaceship?
5. Do you have a favorite Daemon?
6. The story of the Hyalopterous Lemure art is one of my favorite M:tG stories. Ever have an art mix-up where the art was good, but it was incredibly far off from what you'd envisioned?
7. If there's setting information that contradicts information in other books (for example, an AP book says one thing but the Campaign Setting book says another), do you have a general rule on which way to lean? Or in this case should one just go with the info they feel works best?

Thanks once again for your time, and best of luck with whatever you're working on!
