Hi, James.
A question, Desna can have druids as followers?
It don't seem so, but she has a fairly strong connection with the natural world to my eyes.
I'm not James, but the Desna article in Pathfinder #2: The Skinsaw Murders says: "Priests of Desna- cleric, bard, rogue, ranger, or the rare druid- go where they please, earning money by telling fortunes, providing entertainment, and interpreting dreams as messages from the goddess." (p. 69, emphasis added).
So, yes.

James, since the new iconics won't show up in the playtest, can you give us a little spoiler about them? Perhaps just the races, without associating them with the classes?
Nope. It's not the right time. Also... in order to spoil details, those details need to exist in the first place. Until I see the art, in other words, there's really not all that much to say.

That would be pretty unusual, since she's not very neutral and druids have to be neutral. They exist, though, but they're very rare. Most would be neutral good or chaotic neutral.

Design question. I used to do work for the RPGA and I was constantly frustrated with my map turnovers and my lack of access to (at the time) current mapping programs.
Paizo always has raved about Greg Vaughan's map turnovers.
Can you spill his secrets?
Thanks!!
Having played a game with Greg, I'd venture that he simply is a good map-maker. His freehand dry-erase mapping was very well drawn, and not only clear, but felt realistic.

Greg's secrets are that he draws his maps by hand. And has been practicing at drawing maps for decades.

What do you think of a high level adventuring party mazing a foe, and then using wish to transport themselves into the maze to fight that foe?
They threw so many targeted dispels at him that they turned off all of his magic items. It was kind of funny.

thanksActually... I like summoners better than paladins. I just don't like the way the eidolon doesn't fit well into world continuity that well... but when a player makes an eidolon that DOES fit world continuity, they're fine... they just are increasingly complex and poor choices if you have more than 4 players in your group.
And anything can become mythic.
1) Check out Wrath of the Righteous #3 for an example.
2) Wes Schneider made a summoner for a game I was in, and his eidolon was a "guardian angel" he beat up, chained to his will, and used as a bodyguard. The eidolon was built to resemble an angel.
It's when players build eidolons without regard to the assumptions of the setting and simply number crunch for the best stats without caring if the result doesn't really look like anything but a nonsensical chimeric monster that I'm bothered.
Ah. Then I shouldn't have any problems! I'm a story man, first and foremost. Number-crunching's useless if the character doesn't make sense in the setting!
This is a question I've been meaning to ask for a while but keep forgetting to ask: Has the sandwich been invented on Golarion yet?

Hi James! I'm currently playing the Curse of the Crimson Throne adventure path using Pathfinder RPG rules. Now I've encountered a few Shoanti NPCs that are listed as clerics. Shoanti don't usually venerate deities (except for the Lyrune-Quah), they venerate their ancestors. However, you have stated on my occasions that in Golarion clerics cannot choose philosophies but must choose a deity. So I'm wondering now what to do with these Skoan-Quah Shoanti clerics.
Slight spoilers for A History of Ashes:
So, how would you write up characters like those today?

I turned over hand-drawn maps, but I always hated them despite assurances everything was fine.
Speaking of Greg, was he able to make time for any products in 2014? I know his new professional situation severely cut into his freelance time from other threads on the boards.

I'm tempted to reroll a NPC or two in Runelords using some of the Playtest classes to try them out. Specifically
Do you think this could cause any unforeseen issues for me or the game?
I don't want to GMPC them, pretty sure I can handle not having Pet NPCs.

** spoiler omitted **
That's a pretty creative use of a wish. It'd be kinda frustrating to me, but only if I'd spent a good time designing the map and drawing out the battlefield only to have to redraw everything... but still. Excellent and unusual tactic... although risky, since what if the foe escapes the maze before the PCs?

Remember, Curse of the Crimson Throne predates not only the oracle, but the entire Pathfinder game system. It's also very early in the world's development.
Changing the clerics to druids or oracles is what I'd do today.

What does a wererat ratfolk in hybrid form look like? Or more precisely how does the hybrid form differ from its humanoid form?
A wererat ratfolk in hybrid form would look indistinguishable from its normal form. Which is why we'll likely never put them into an adventure, because a wererat ratfolk is pretty terribly boring.

Questions about Sub-Domains:
1. How many do Deities get?
2. Or can their worshippers choose any from the Domains they grant?
3. For Alignment Domains how do you pick which one the Deity gives?
4. I heard that Deities can grant Sub-Domains not tied to their Domains. Is this true?
1) As a general rule, a deity grants 6 subdomians and a demigod grants 4 subdomains... but those numbers can vary.
2) Yes.
3) The deity always gives all of the alignment domains it can.
4) Yes, but it's rare. Kostchtchie is a good example; the Ice subdomain is something he should grant, but it's part of the Water domain which makes no sense for Kostchtchie.

Using playtest classes in any game can cause unforseen issues. Because that's why we playtest, to try to discover those unforseen issues. That said, I think that playtesting NPCs using the playtest stuff is a valuable and criminally underutilized aspect of the playtest, so I hope LOTS of GMs give it a try.

I blurred through, and saw a few game related questions, so I hope this is fine to ask, if not, please just ignore it. :)
I asked a question here:
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2qd84?Flight-speed-vs-Run-speed
The question being, can the Run action be used in flight.
And the community had a pretty clear consensus, that it could. Then I saw THIS thread, and realized that with a single sentence, you could solve all my problems and give me an answer that doesn't require any debate with my friend (With whom I don't wish to argue or debate more than needed).
So, the question is, can the Run action be used in flight? :)
And for the sake of completeness, does it work for other modes of movement (Swimming, climbing, burrowing)?
Thanks for reading this, and the fact that a Dev is answering questions, and has been for this long, is just astounding, thank you sir for all of your hard work. :D

Oh. We decide what alignment sub-domains a deity gets based on what outsider race they're most associated with. in 99.9% of the cases, that leaves only one choice.

That movie's better, since at the very least the main character actually did airbending. If he didn't do airbending because the director felt that would be "more realistic," it would START to compete with Godzilla for worst ever.

This is something you need to ask in the rules forums. Me answering questions like this to solve rules conflicts at tables, particularly Pathfinder Society tables, has caused some folks to get bent out of shape on the boards, so I don't really do it anymore.
You need to ask the question on the rules forums where it can get tagged with a FAQ.
In my games, though, I allow the run action with ALL movement types.
