I've been trying to find this on the forums, but can't find it.
Fact : Goblins do not read (most goblins anyway).
Query : My understanding is, this is about words being stolen from their brain. However... Does this apply to everything you could do, or just 'words'? For example, would goblins draw a picture of a sunset? Or make tattoo's on each other? Or do other non-writing type things? Would they do the equivalent of old picto-graphic depictions like Cave Paintings?
This comes up due to a recent happening in Jade Regent.
While in the village of Goblins, my Paladin (a Divine Hunter who ended up leading the way because we were all splitting up to find anything alive in it) opened a door, and 3 goblins started throwing garbage at him (they didn't have any weapons apparently, so threw garbage). Now, being a LG Paladin of Ragathiel, he didn't really feel all that valiant shooting 3 unarmed obviously terrified goblins with his bow. Since he spoke goblin, he roared at them to shut up and quit throwing things (being a Tiefling with a high diplomacy, he actually shut them up) and spent a minute talking them down from hostile/scared to neutral.
Finally, after pumping them for information and convincing one of the 4(, another joined them after a band of 6 attacked us while we talked, the other 5 died, one surrendered) that they should go hide with the chief (thus causing him to run off and bang on the chief's hut to hide with him where we could see where he went), I picked one and convinced him to show us where the cave with the fireworks were (amazing what some food and diplomacy and the promise of a gold piece can do). But the reason was, one of the other players said 'Oh, he won't draw us a map, goblins don't do that', and I didn't even think of it at the time. So I made him go along. On thinking it over, I really don't see why they'd have trouble with a map, they just wouldn't put words on it, woudl they? Just drawing the swamp shouldn't steal words from their heads.
Thanks to that though, I now have a tagalong goblin who follows us everywhere and I'm having to try to 'civilize' him. Fortunately, so far, he's been more helpful than not (noticing ambushes, standing watch (with someone), etc).
I'm beginning to think I may have to take leadership and turn him into a cohort at this point to play true to character.

I love the story of Geb and Nex and how their rivalry nuked the Mana Wastes. Are we more likely to get an AP that focused on their Rivalry or one that focused on one or the other?
Which of the two do you like better?
It's unlikely, since Nex is very much in Erik Mona's court, and he's currently WAY too busy to be involved that heavily in an Adventure Path.
I prefer Geb, though, since that's where Arazni lives, and since she's one of my creations I kinda feel more pride in that side of the Mana Wastes.

** spoiler omitted **...
Goblins don't read because of an overwhelming social taboo about writing. They think that words steal thoughts out of your head, and that if you write too much, you're basically leaking your soul and personality out of you and will eventually become a mindless shell or die or worse.
The fact that they don't read is a side effect of this fear of actually writing.
A goblin raised outside of goblin society would not develop this fear, but one who grew up among goblins would have a hard time learning to unlearn this belief. It's not impossible, but still unlikely.
Goblins use drawings for signs when they need them. They certainly do paintings and the like, and also do sculpture and other forms of art. Just no words.

Ok, that's what I thought on second thought. I'll let the GM know for future. :) Would have saved me dealing with a tagalong. Oh well, it's been semi-fun riding herd on him (or her) anyway. :)

4) Where would you say Greek and Roman styles of dress (tunics, togas, sandals, chitons, chlamys, etc) originate from in Golarion? The tunic seems fairy widespread. I could see ancient Taldor or Cheliax. Perhaps that style stems from the ancient Azlanti?
Azlant and Iblydos like James said, and from what I can tell, Jistka also seems a prime candidate, although it's wholly plausible that they adopted such a style from Azlant. Given that the 'toga' style was pretty damn similar to Indian garb, I would say in Vudra as well, and plausibly that could extend to Nagajor in Tian Xia (depending on actual Vudra/Nagajor connection), and since Tibetan Monks also have a similar style I might also expect it in Tian monestaries.
5) Concerning the Roman / Greek style of dress above, where could you see such outfits still being popular (either in everyday dress, among the high-born, or worn for rituals)?
I'm guessing that whenever Iblydos is done up, it may retain a good amount of that for flavor's sake. Also see Vudra and aspects of Tian Xia. Of course if you're interested in "Roman/Greek" flavor in particular, and not clothing that materially is similar yet the flavor context is different, that may not interest you. I would say it's plausible for Inner Sea region Monk monasteries to retain a similar style though.

James, how would you stat up a genetically engineered human like Khan from Wrath of Khan/Into Darkness?
25 point buy?
Advanced creature template on top?
He seems to have some kind of DR/Regen/Fast Healing judging from Into Darkness.
Advanced creature template works best. Plus give him a 25 point buy and PC gear.

These days it's quite obscure. It's an AD&D module done to a LP record, in England. It's narrator is the great Valentine Dyall. He played The Black Guardian in Doctor Who during the 70's I believe.

Wow, thanks for the answers regarding Shelyn's holy symbol! That really has me intrigued. I thought the bird might be extinct, considering how settled some parts of the Inner Sea are. Here are a few follow-up questions.
1) What region(s) would you say the bird was native to?
2) What primarily drove it to extinction? Loss of habitat, killed for its feathers, hunted down by evil faiths?
3) What name would you suggest for it? Ones I've considered are the Shelynite Thrush, the Rainbow-tailed Thrush, the Muse's Thrush, and the Divine Thrush.
4) Would you say celestial versions exist? Perhaps native to Nirvana or Shelyn's realm there?
4a) If a celestial version does exist, would it be available as an Improved Familiar and to be summoned? Maybe using the stats for a celestial thrush or celestial eagle?
5) Would finding a way to reintroduce the bird to Golarion be a suitably epic quest for a Shelynite PC?

Mr. James Jacobs,

I would... but I'm not the one who handles that. Wes is the one said applicant would need to beg forgiveness from.

Even if they may not always be such a great idea in the end.

Oh ... oh my. You're absolutely right. I have no idea why I thought it was a 4th level spell! And I could spend that gold on a bunch of items that give me competence bonuses and/or insight bonuses on Disguise checks instead, maybe get a headband of vast intellect that grants me ranks in Disguise too while I'm at it. I could get so good at mundane Disguises that no one could ever tell the difference!
You, sir, are a brilliant man-dinosaur-Director.
Or make a deal with another Rakshasa. Ask him to impersonate the one you killed.

Do npcs with class levels get favored class bonuses?
Also can magical horseshoes, such as horseshoes of speed or horseshoes of the zephyr be used by creature's that are only horse-like? such as nightmares, dragon horses or eidolons with a horse-like appearance (including hooves)?
They can if that's the class they chose as their favored class.
I'd let magic horseshoes work on anything that has four legs and horse feet.

I'm Neutral Good. I'm more likely to try and kill the new rakshasa. : / Especially if he's anything like our last rakshasa, who embodied the societal taboos of pedophilia and incest. >_<
With that said, the particular course of action my character has chosen to deal with the pirates (classic spy-and-subterfuge missions with a sprinkle of assassinations) could very easily steer him away from his alignment. While that might be interesting, I'm more interested in trying to figure out how someone who is Neutral Good could justify doing some of the things he is going to have to do. I was planning on growing a religious experience out of it.
My character is currently agnostic in that he acknowledges the gods but doesn't really worship them, and I think that is something that most RPG settings don't capture very well. Virtually all of such settings have people who worship gods for power and tangible blessings, but very few present characters who embody the very real idea that worshiping a higher power can be spiritually invigorating in its own right. Many people are religious (or spiritual) simply because that faith gives them the strength to carry on against insurmountable odds.
Those are my favorite kinds of religious characters, anyway. The ones that aren't zealously devoted, but instead worship for spiritual strength, fortitude, forgiveness, and redemption.

Tell me what you think about this. I have devised a house rule for people to identify people with class levels. It is a Knowledge check based on the knowledge that are listed as class skills for that class. The thought there is if it a field of study and you have done things in that you are likely to be known among that circle. The DC is set at 25 minus the level of the person indicating the more you have done the more likely you are known. The DC to know specific details about them as far as equipment used or weakness falls back to 10 + CR gaining more information for every 5 pts you exceed the DC. I use this in conjunction with a title system that gives every level a title.
For example; The man before you seems weathered from many travels, his armor and sword have seen much action. (pc's ask to identify him roll and succeed but fail to know specifics about him)
You recognize him to be a Shield Sergeant (8th lv) with the Crossed Swords Guilds his name is Istaban Greenfields, however you don't recall much more than that.
This gives PC's and NPC's a way of identifying each other or estimating the other persons level.

James,
Player showed me the Darksire Amulet for tieflings. That's a pretty neat item for them. However, it says under the creation guidelines that a tiefling, half-fiend, or true fiend are required to create it. Does this also mean that a half-fiend and a true fiend can wear this amulet and gain the same +5 bonus to resistances?

James,
How rare are the classes in the Advanced Class Guide? If the ones from the Core are the most common and APG are next after that, does that make the likes of Shaman, Swashbucklers, etc very rare in Golarion? Do people even make those distinctions?
From say an Oracle, Paladin, Cleric and Warpriest?

Oooo, I love Arazni's story. She resonated with me most as I first got to know Golarion. I really want to have my Paladin lead an assault into Geb to free her from lichdom and free the Graveknights also.
We have stats for Arazni in Mythic Realms, right? Would the Graveknights who were raised from the knights who tried to rescue/end her be unique? Do you think we may be getting stats for them as well, and would they be Mythic?

Why is Arazni okay with being called the Harlot Queen?
I surely would take offense at the first word if I were her.
Does she have that much free will to care, or is she Geb's creature?
Did you create Arazni as a lich with backstory, or was she originally alive when you brought her forth into your original campaign?

Cool, Uncool, or Insane:
For my home campaign that I run, I recently sat down and mapped out the region that my PCs have been exploring for the past year or so (real-world time) and are now starting to do some kingdom building of their own. After finishing the map, I went onto Adobe Illustrator and made a Hex grid that was of the appropriate scale (1 Hex = 12 Miles, spaced enough so that the map's area shows a region roughly the size of California) and then took this PDF file to Staples and had it printed onto a transparency sheet of plastic.
Before leaving, I bought a three-subject notebook and ripped out the subject dividers to have roughly 120 undivided sheets of paper. When I got home, I immediately started breaking up the book into sections of nine lines, with each page possessing three "sections." These sections were split into groups of 25 and labelled with the letters "A through W" to correlate with my Hex Grid; there are roughly 525 hexes on this grid and every section was labelled with a standard format like the following:
HEX # / Hex Owner
Hex Type
Hex Element(s)
Hex Improvements
Next I colored the map and drew in major landmarks as well as labelled important features on the map itself. On the transparency, I marked off political boundaries and then immediately started inscribing this information into my notebook, one hex at a time. After completing an entire letter's worth of pages, I go back and randomly determine on a d% if that hex has a settlement in it (95 - 100 indicates a settlement) before moving on to the next letter.
Its been a lot of work, but I'm hoping it'll allow me to bring an equal amount of depth to the region when my players start exploring those hexes!

I guess that's okay... but I also think it's kind of overcomplicating things a bit.
At the very least, I'd simplify it down to making a Knowledge (local) check to know about local personalities.

Nope. It remains an amulet for tieflings regardless of who makes it.
Which doesn't mean someone else couldn't build the exact same rules effects into a completely differently flavored magic item to affect any other race, of course.

How often/how much do you use 3PP stuff?
Relatively often—you can check out any Adventure Path's OGL to see proof of the fact that we use different 3PP stuff all the time. I don't normally use a HUGE range of other products, and generally focus in pretty tightly on a few books by a few companies, though.

Wouldn't it be better to let the Knights of Ozem use up their resources and watch them from afar, then perhaps send those minions up to Lastwall to mess with them when their attention is diverted?
