Speaking of Leng, Sense of the Sleight of Hand Man is out... It seems like a really cool adventure. Do you have it yet?

Hey James, first time posting in this thread! :D

I'm wanting to make a Demon Lord (since now we have the Demon Lord Qualities, and finally have one statted up) based on Dracula from the Castlevania games. My questions are:

1) Could a demon lord be undead? Would it be over the top to have the demon lord traits and the vampire/undead traits?

2) I was thinking of whether to use all undead HD to stat the demon lord up, since its supposed to also be a vampire, or to use outsider HD instead (with the assumption being that the Abyss has remade the creature into demon lord) and give it an ability saying that it has all the undead qualities and has all abilities of a vampire.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'll happily talk about daemons over on my ask thread, but everything there that I say is prefaced with the 'if it's not in a book it's not canon and I'm not an employee'.

Is there room in Pathfinder for adventures dealing with alternate timelines? Like an alternate version of Golarion where the Worldwound has spread even further, or where Taldor never lost control of Cheliax, etc.

Ah, okay. For some reason, having an idea where the races are based makes them feel more grounded in Golarion to me...not to mention giving some ideas when it comes to coming up with a character's background!

1) It might be too early to ask this, but would an android PC be a good idea for the Iron Gods AP, or would it be better to keep them as NPCs for it? I've been thinking about playing a sage bloodline android sorcerer for awhile...

2) Would you say that someone with multiple personality disorder could have a persona of another alignment than himself, or one that worships another deity than the original personality? If so, what would happen if they died while a persona of a different alignment or worshiper of another deity was in control?

3) What gods do you think azatas would be most inclined to either worship or serve? And how easy do you think it is for a celestial to get to meet their god in general, though that probably depends a lot on the god...gotta find Desna first, after all...

1) Androids, be they NPCs or PCs, will have an important role to play in Iron Gods.

2) It's certainly possible, but depends on how far your GM wants to take the concept.

3) Empyrial lords, Desna, Milani, or other Chaotic Good gods.

also Hard Root Beer RULES!!!!! (in moderation:)

1) Many times. The two most memorable were Alauniira Mlezzir (a halfling psionicist who worshiped Eilistraee) and Thistle Ambermead (a halfling paladin who got himself killed by a demon). Thistle lasted for only a few sessions in that Planescape game and was replaced by Ameiko, while Aluniira lasted an entire campaign.

Of course that makes it hard for a paladin to come from Shoanti stock.

How would these things work for someone who was raised outside Shoanti society, though? For instance, if I wanted to play Curse of the Crimson Throne as a Shoanti-blooded person who grew up in Korvosa's ghettos, similar to things like Sherman Alexie's descriptions of growing up on Native American reservations. And how do Shoanti view interbreeding with non-humans? Half-orcs it states are shunned and never welcome due to the strong enmity the Shoanti have for them, and the fact that such offspring are often the result of defeat and humiliation in the worst way. But how do the Shoanti view half-elves? They're at least tolerant to outsiders if they're not Chelaxian, but I'm not sure how a Shoanti community would react if, for example a visiting elf pursued an affair with one of their warriors.

Hmmm...the more I read about them, the less appropriate a Shoanti paladin kind of characters seems for Curse of the Crimson Throne. Not because it's unworkable, you understand, but that the kind of backgrounds in CotCT seem more oriented towards urban-born characters, and part of the whole schtick in Pathfinder 10 is that they ARE outsiders. Having a character already be Shoanti kind of defeats the purpose of the tests in that episode...

Sounds about right... you could certainly have a Shoanti worship a deity, but if that Shoanti was also part of a tribe, he would be unusual. If you're Shoanti but grew up outside of the tribe system, which happens plenty, then that's not as much an issue.

A Shoanti raised outside of the tribe would likely take on the mannerisms of whatever society raised him to a certain extent. Sheriff Hemlock in Sandpoint's a good example of a Shoanti who has a much more Varisian viewpoint on the world. In any event, a paladin Shoanti would likely be treated very much as an outlander in part 10 of Crimson THrone.

So given how awesome Wrath of the Righteous is looking right now, and given that several things about mythic adventures were more to my liking than I had initially expected, I started giving thought to the matter of mythic rules in relation to APs.

APs where the PCs gain mythic tiers should of course be rare, even if the rules DO catch on strongly, because mythic is only so when it's special - I can't imagine seeing much more than a single mythic campaign every couple of years or so, with maybe a mythic module every once in a while too.

The scope of WotR is something that is going to be hard to replicate too often. It truly is about Golarion shaking events. So I was thinking, "do all mythic APs have to end with PCs at level 20 with 10 mythic tiers? do all mythic APs have to give mythic to the PCs as early as adventure 1?"

And I guess now I'm directing those questions at you - would it be possible to see for example an AP that only gives PCS mythic tiers at the end of part 4, and ends at level 18 with like 3 mythic tiers or something like that? The way mythic tiers work means that an adventure of just about any level can be "mythic", without having to include CR 30 foes in it...

I suspect that Mythic APs will indeed have PCs ending at 20th level, simply because that's what level it looks like you'll hit in 6 parts, in the same way a non-mythic AP tops out around 16th.

Weird Question: Does worship have to be admiration? For example, there were plenty of "Gods" in Greek and Roman mythology that were worshiped more out of fear rather than love.

If so, are there any examples of this on Golarion? And does this 'nega-worship' still grant a deity powers?

And if the above is true, could the *Blame Cosmo* thread represent Cosmo's Mythic Ascension into demigodhood?

Worship can be admiration, lust, fear, jealousy, awe, or anything else.

What exactly is granted to a deity or demigod from being worshiped isn't something we've explained, and nor shall we, I suspect.

Hi,
So, been awhile since I posted in this thread (it grows so fast it's hard to keep up with it!).

Got a couple of questions if you don't mind them?

1) Tieflings (Blood of Fiends) have an alternate ability that says 'You do not require sleep, you are not immune to sleep effects'. Not asking for an FAQ entry, asking your personal opinion on it. My GM is looking for input on it. Does not need to sleep would seem to indicate that you don't need to sleep to recover your energy under normal circumstances, but it's not accompanied by the 'immune to fatigue' that construct races get. So, it seems to me that just running around doing whatever wouldn't fatigue you, but things like waves of fatigue or thin air in high mountains would. On the fence about pushing your walking day, IE: traveling 16 hours. If you never need to sleep, then that seems to argue you don't need to sleep to get rid of the fatigued state, maybe just rest the hour you normally need to get rid of it. On a related note, not sleeping would be kind of boring, so I'm thinking that they'd need a hobby (much like Warforged did in 3.5), carving, painting, something quiet to do while their allies are sleeping. Presumeably they'd be able to get in 8 hours of crafting (carving, etc) over night, and 8 hours of travel. Last part of this, the Wizard spell rules state you need 8 hours of rest, or if you don't need to sleep, you have to have a calm restful time. But calm restful isn't really defined. So would this be basically sitting doing nothing (which is listed for rest, which is before restful calm), or does it basically mean he needs to be lounging around the campsight, keeping an eye out for someone attacking, things like that?

2) This is somewhat related. :) Androids. Same question on the lack of sleep, immunity to fatigue, etc. 8 hours of travel, 8 hours of crafting (again, carving, painting, writing, etc). Since they don't get tired, can they craft more than the normal limit of 8 hours? I'm sure they can walk 24/7 without stopping. And same question about a wizard/witch/etc arcane prepared caster as the Tiefling above, what is restful calm vs rest? And does sitting around painting a painting or writing constitute restful calm (I find painting miniatures very calming personally).

3) Did you enjoy con?

1) Being immune to sleep is not the same as immunity to fatigue. They are separate conditions.

2) Up to your GM, but probably, yeah. I would say so. They'd still need to rest to prepare spells though. Restful calm is basically sitting or lying or reclining in a state of mostly motionlessness. Meditation, for example. Painting, crafting, reading, writing, are not "restful calm."

3) Not really. I enjoyed talking to folks, and Paizo did VERY well... but I don't generally enjoy conventions. Or the sickness they bring.

There'll be a little info on all the realms, but not a lot.

Hm.. sounds good. I guess that means I can have plenty of leeway on working with Nurgal's realm in my upcoming homebrew campaign, then, as the players will be likely visiting that realm long before that book comes out.

Spoiler:
I'm aiming for a southwestern United States feel (Arizona/New Mexico), with mesas, canyons, and plains, with a mix between 'living' deserts (Cacti, shrubs, etc) and regular sandy deserts, along with ruins in the side of the canyons/mesas, similar to the ruins in Arizona. The Abyssal Cacti will be particularly dangerous and come in many different 'flavors'.

Inhabitants will include lots of fiendish felines, fiendish draconic races (Fiendish Blue Dragons!), and a sect of Ancient Azlanti worshippers of Nurgal who fled into the Abyss during Earthfall and have been there ever since, adapting and thriving in the less-than-hospitable landscape. They'd be heavily tainted, of course, and might either have become Demon-Spawn Tieflings or acquired the Fiendish template.

At least, thats my personal idea for the realm..

1) The ability doesn't make you immune to sleep, it says you never NEED to sleep (it actually says you specifically are not immune to sleep). That's why it's kind of confusing. And I said, Fatigue could certainly apply from doing things like spells, or high altitude, but if you don't need to sleep, I'm not sure what would cause fatigue for just doing whatever you do normally as long as you don't push yourself (like walking 9 hours straight without a break). That's why I asked the question.

2) Seems like it's pretty much a useless ability then for a prepared spellcaster, since you have to sit motionless for 8 hours a day anyway. Much better to just do spontaneous arcane or divine, since neither has to do that.

3) Blech, I hate being sick. I don't go to cons much, but the last time I did go to a big event, I actually took dayquil every day, and took vitamins and drank a lot of orange juice the two weeks before and the two days I was there.

Hey, hope you had a great Gen Con!

I'm running Rise of the Runelords, and in my campaign, Nualia got away at Thistletop. My initial thought is that I'd like her to have become a half-fiend, which is especially attractive given the variants in the new Demons Revisited. With that inspiration, I've decided I don't want to use the out-of-the-box half-fiend template given in the Bestiary.

My problem comes in deciding what sort of demon blood to give her. She seems like she's all about wrath, so half-vrock seems the most appropriate. However, she's getting her power from Lamashtu, and while Lamashtu does have some vrocks under her command, that really does seem like a Pazuzu thing. The text suggests that she might even become a succubus, but lust seems like it plays a very small part in her makeup.

So what's your suggestion? Is there another type of demon that I should look at, or should I come up with my own variant?

1) If you could have three different non-unique outsiders under your command in real life that would do whatever you said, but would be inclined to follow their natural inclinations for anything you didn't specifically cover, which three would you want? By different, I mean if you pick, say, a succubus, the other two options couldn't be another kind of demon, much less another succubus...

2) If you could have the spellcasting of a 1st level sorcerer with no bloodline (so, you get eschew materials for free, four cantrips to use at-will, and two 1st level spells to use 3/day), what spells would you pick? Presume, hypothetically, your Charisma is around 11 if that makes a difference.

3) Which three of the existing deific heralds in the Golarion setting are your favorites?

Well I could see among other things, Amiri cutting up Gregor Clegane Guts the Black Swordsman-style and Kyra pwning Melisandre in a divine magic duel.

And Merisiel and Valeros becoming frequent customers of all the major brothels in King's Landing. ;)

Hey James,

What is the difference between how Calistria views lust...and how succubus lead mortals to damnation with it?

I mean why don't every Calistrian go to the Abyss(I am sure some do)?

Do succubus target Calistria followers as easy targets...or aviod as they are more in touch with that particular base instinct to not easily fall for it?

I'm not James, but I'd say it's intent that separates a Calistrian from a succubus. Calistrians view lust as a normal part of life, and their interest is largely just sating it consensual-like. They don't look beyond the act of sex itself. It's not a means to an end, but rather the end itself. For a succubus, lust and sexuality ARE a means to an end, specifically the end of tempting mortals to do depraved acts. A succubus may be lustful, but most of it's just an act to get easily manipulated mortals to serve them so she can gain sustenance from them and lead their souls to the Abyss for their demonic master. A Calistrian on the negative side of morality may do it to get back at someone or to blackmail them, though honestly that makes them a lot like succubi, though that probably means they're more in tune with Nocticula than Calistria, if their souls are evil enough to merit the Abyss rather than going to her, and thus they're pretty much succubi in training anyway.

Mr. James Jacobs,

I was hoping for your thought on something. I have a aberrant-esque CG demigod shaping up. His portfolio will contain Darkness, Retribution, and endurance. You might remember my previous posts to you about him.

My question is about his domains. Chaos, Good, and Darkness are a no brainer, but the fourth domain I remain undecided on. In your estimation which would fir better: the Strength domain or the Protection domain? Although if you have a better idea from the other domains feel free to mention that one. Thank you in advance.

Out of curiosity - where can I find more info on Lymneris? The Pathfinder Wiki has info somewhere in the vicinity of 'smeg' and 'all'.

For reference; that's Martin Freeman, aka Dr John Watson, aka Arthur Dent, aka the bloke that treated Manny after he swallowed the Little Book of Calm.

Dear Mr. Jacobs,

as i´m really looking forward to the "Iron Gods"-AP, are there any bits of information you could already spoil about the dominion of the black? Will it receive a support article in the AP?

And, as Jalmeray is part of the Inner Sea region, will the Inner Sea Gods hardcover have some information about the Vudrani pantheon?

Thank´s in advance!

A little question about Shattered Star. In Shards of Sin, we learn that Sheila Heidmarch founded a loyal companion and "personal protector" in Thuvia in the person of an awakened mountain gorilla. Can we suppose that she took him with her when she went back to Magnimar (and so the PC could possibly come across him) ?

He's been known to do some beatboxing too.

Welcome!!!

1) Yes, you can have an undead demon lord. Zura might be undead, for example.

2) I would probably use outsider HD and just give it undead traits. Kinda like how we did inevitables as outsiders with construct traits.

Thanks for the reply James!

I have one more question I hope you can help with/provide insight on:

Running with your example of the inevitables and their "Constructed" trait, im thinking of giving this demon lord a trait called "Vampiric" and having it provide the obvious undead traits (no con score, etc.) and all of the abilities of a vampire, but with a decidedly over-the-top demon lord twist to them. That's what I'm shooting for as of now. The only thing throwing a wrench in is the mythic vampire template. I don't know if I should apply any of the MV abilities to this guy. Thoughts?

Thanks for your time!
