Owning the current Campaign Setting book I see a LOT of parallels between the Low Templar PrC and the Inquisitor as well as the Caviler. It is pretty obvious that these two classes were pretty heavily influenced by this class.

Do you currently have plans on revising/updating the Low Templar class for the new Inner Sea World Guide like how the pathfinder chronicler was updated?
Also by extension, what about the other classes like the Harrower, Red Mantis Assassin, and Shackles Pirate?

The revised World Guide: The Inner Sea book will have updated prestige class entries for the Harrower, the Red Mantis assassin, the Low Templar, and the Hellknight (a 10-level version of the prestige class as opposed to the more "experimental" 15 level version we published during Council of Thieves).

The Shackles Pirate prestige class is more or less going away; it's far too regional a class that has no real use outside of skirting the Eye of Abendego, and thus it's "spot" in the book was replaced by the Hellknight.

Which Knight is Right?

Seriously though, which Hellknight is going to be the 'default' Hellknight for future references?

I'm VERY much looking forward to it.

My current guess for villains: Two-Face will be the main villain (since I read that Nolan considers "Dark Knight" to refer to both Bruce Wayne AND Harvey Dent), with Cat Girl in the mix, and perhaps Ras Ah-ghul or however you spell that guy's name coming back from the dead to torment Batman some more.

I know its a super hero movie and all, but

Spoiler:
Harvey Dent died at the end of Dark Knight

My guess is the Riddler because there is a guy name Mr. Ees.

Who would you like to see play Catwoman?

Unfortunately the Riddler is not likely to be in it The Riddler and Mr Freeze are 2 villains he specifically said were not in it.

The World Guide: The Inner Sea will be the one we use in future publications starting in February.

Which one folks use in their home game is up to the GM, likely depending on whether or not the GM approves of 15 level prestige classes.

That said, in-world there won't be much of a difference. Both classes can build the same character and result in the same flavor.

"xxx died at the end" doesn't mean anything, ESPECIALLY in superhero movies.

I've heard confirmation from several sources that the Riddler is not in the movie, and there's also been a fair amount of buzz about a casting call for an actress, so I think Catwoman is probably in for sure.

I'd like to see Zoe Saldana play Catwoman. Even though she kind of already did in "Avatar."

Mr. Jacobs, have you or any of the Paizo staff ever played strip D&D or Pathfinder? Or, strip Call of Cthulhu?

LIST OF THE COOLEST FILMS

I'm sure that within a few minutes of me hitting "Submit Post" I'll remember a few that SHOULD have been on the list as well.

I see that you are a massive Kurosawa fan - Ran was the first of his films that I saw and it is my favourite foreign film.

My wife bought me a Kurosawa boxed set... I am ashamed to say I haven't watched them all yet.

I am not sure if you have watched them but I can recommend some good (and so bad that they are good) Australian/New Zealand films.

The Proposition

Breaker Morant

Gallipoli

Razorback

Van Diemen's Land

The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith

Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! Is a documentary about the bad old days of the government subsidised Australian film industry - Its explains why such movies as Mad Max and Razorback came to be... Very interesting and you would be surprised at the Hollywood stars that and famous directors that took part.

Kiwi Movies

Once Were Warriors

These ones are Peter Jackson movies

Bad Taste

Braindead

Meet the Feebles . A warning about Meet the Feebles it will warp your brain, it is terrible and brilliant at the same time.

Kurosawa's one of my favorite directors (the other four, to round out my five favorites, would be: John Carpenter, Stephen Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Werner Herzog).

As I mentioned though, I didn't include Australian or New Zealand movies since those aren't subtitled. I would list the following as my favorites from that category, though:

Bad Taste
Dead Alive
Mad Max
Rogue
Forgotten Silver
The Last Wave
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Road Warrior

Razorback would certainly get honorable mention. Fond memories of that one!

(I'm deliberately NOT including the Lord of the Rings movies, although technically I guess they could go on this list...)

Taking the second question first: Ramen is not my least favorite food, but I've probably eaten enough of it over the course of college that I don't need to go back there anytime soon.

As for the first question: since Boardwalk Empire is on in 3 minutes, and since that potion thread looks unnecessarily overcomplicated and because I'm not a huge fan of overly-pedantic internet rules arguments... I'll pass.

If I were to weigh in on that thread, though, my advice would be: "Ask your GM and don't be a jerk if your GM responds with an answer that won't let you cheat."

Does this make me a jerk GM?

Game Spoiler:
The fighter got killed at the last gaming session just before reaching level 5. The PCs had just done a huge favor to the city of Egorian. So they go back to they're hellknight liaison tell them they would like to forgo reward for having their friend raised from the dead. The liaison agrees telling them he's sure he would have connections to do that. So I go into a nice solo description for the dead PC.

"Your floating on a gray featureless void moving toward some unseeable goal. Other souls around you float in different directions. Suddenly small eddies of fire appear around you, no bigger than a silver dollar. Burning hot chains erupt from the eddies hooking into you with searing pain, you struggle to get them out of you but as you rip one from your soul essence 3 more take it's place and pull taught. A large eddy erupts from beneath you, you struggle but to no avail the chains have you hopelessly caught, the pain is unimaginably awful. You get pulled in to the large eddy, you fall through a large fiery tunnel searing chains burning in your soul essence fire scorching you from the tunnel.
Suddenly you wake up flailing. Your on an obsidian slab in a large cathedral made of red veined black marbel, giant red tinted stained glass windows run the length of the cathedral, pentagrams embossed on the windows. A man in black red lined robes stands over you.
He speaks "My contract is fulfilled, you will find your things in the next room"
As you get up the man pauses "Your resurrection has taken a toll on your spirit, you will not be as strong as you once were. You must be more careful in future. (he pauses) But I may be able to help you with that (he smiles)."
PC: "I have no more gold for to offer"
The robed man pulls a scroll from a nearby drawer and shows it to the PC. It basically reads that a boon can be offered for either the PCs eternal soul or an equivalent boon given back to the church of Asmodeus.

The player takes nearly 10 minutes to decide and finally agrees because he doesn't want to be lower than the rest of the party. He signs the scroll in blood.

I then describe how the robed man starts chanting and he begins to feel warmth building up inside, then he the warmth builds to a slightly painful burn. Finally as the man chants louder it becomes unbearably painful blood spills from his eyes and mouth, his skin turns a painful red. He falls to his knees and screams in agony almost passing out, and then it stops all at once and he's 5th level. A raw burn mark appears on his chest in the shape of a pentagram. The robed man tells him that when the time is right he will be called upon and if he tries to renege on the contract the pentagram would burn into his chest all the way to his heart killing him outright. The robed man then smiles and tells to have a wonderful life.

The PC is now kinda angry I made him move his alignment one step closer to LE. Do you think I'm being a jerk. This game just started last night and it was awesome so I don't want to drive him off but seriously he chose to sign a contract with Asmodeus.

Monkeygod wrote:

Not for sure, but my guesses:

1) A sandbox is a blank slate; what you do in the sandbox is not limited by anything but what you can make from the sand.

2) Some wargames use thign callled sand tables, where you can use damp sand to shape into whatever terrain features you want.

Jeremy Mcgillan wrote:

** spoiler omitted **...

Nope; that's what players get for asking Hellknights to tinker with their souls.

That said, if the player wants to restore his alignment, that's only an atonement spell away. Or, if the player's soured on paying for others to cast spells on him, an adventure hook away, I guess.

Jeremy Mcgillan wrote:

I know this is for James and he already answered, but I feel compelled to chime in as well:

What you did was well within the normal role of a DM/GM. You created an "adventure" which resulted in a dead PC. His party then reacted in such a way that put the PC in a situation where he had an option. Choosing one had a side affect that he didn't like, but it was fully his choice.

what would be a jerk move would be to fully force the character into LE, totally against the player's will without any chance or choice of redemption.

That's NOT funny at all James. Inadvertently or not, you just called half the people in that thread cheaters. If I had thought it a deliberate insult I would have flagged your post as an attack.

It's certainly not intended as an attack, but it WAS intended as a plea to gamers everywhere to ease back on the obsession with rule interpretation. The game does not get better when you microexamine and overanalyze every single rule. It is, in fact, a great disservice to the game to do this, I think. The fact that GMs exist and, in theory, are capable of making their own rulings on strange corner cases or rules interpretations is what makes tabletop RPGs so much more capable of being so much more than a computer RPG, which is limited to what it can do because it essentially has a computer or robot for a GM.

Also: it's this type of response (the "Don't joke around—rules arguments are SERIOUS BUSINESS") that kind of makes me not want to chime in on rules arguments. I've done so before, usually with an attempt to say, "This is how I would do things, but I encourage you to do what is best for your game" only to have people micro-examine and dissect every letter of my post in order to fuel even more rules arguments.

Not a fan of that.

If you want to be a jerk, sure!

I never said "rules don't matter," and this post, while (I hope) meant to be in fun, is also a shining example of someone taking a post I made and twisting its words around to serve their own sinister agenda.

The only thing as bad as blind slavery to the rules is completely ignoring the rules. Believe it or not, you CAN play the game somewhere along the midline between those two extremes.
