Damn! I guess that will happen whenever you update Gods and Magic?

The crossbow is currently filling a really important niche—it's the strongest ranged simple weapon. Making it equal to a bow means it's a martial weapon, and suddenly all the classes that rely on it being a simple weapon are out of luck. The solution of having feats be able to "upgrade" crossbows is the only type of solution we'll be pursuing for them, since I don't see crossbows as being "worse" than bows at a baseline as a bad thing in the first place. They're SUPPOSED to be inferior to bows, whether or not that makes sense compared to the real world, that's the way it has to be for game balance and variety.

But... Van Helsing! ;_;

Besides, the repeating crossbow is an exotic weapon. Can we get larger magazines, pretty please? ;)

I'd put out ultimate magic as a prediction for where, but as it's a core book and setting neutral, i doubt it.

That'd be a nice place to do just that. We have no plans to update Gods and Magic anytime soon, though.

Larger magazines for repeating crossbows aren't a bad idea. We don't have a big equipment book on the schedule for now, though—equipment isn't going to be a big part of either "Ultimate Magic" or "Ultimate Combat," but beyond that... we'll see.

Also, citing "Van Helsing" isn't sweetening the deal. Despite Kate Beckinsale being in the movie, I didn't really like that movie much at all.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about magazines *that* size. :p But the leather coat and awesome hat were really pretty sweet. Well, ahem, Solomon Kane totally would have used a repeating crossbow, if only it would have had a larger magazine. ;)

Aw . . . how can you not like a movie where the physiology of where a human's heart is has to be "reimagined" because you can't stake the actress through her implants?

(Van Helsing's werewolf form was pretty cool looking though)

Hey! I posted that a bit before. Great scenario. It would make a good one-off for PF, since the setting is so isolated-- the 1920s environment barely registers.

I actually quite like all the other races. Elves and halflings and gnomes in particular are pretty neat. I've just never been a big fan of dwarves at all. I honestly wouldn't call it "hate," but of the seven core races, dwarves are easily my least favorite.

I did indeed know that Camazots appears in a CoC game. That's not something I would actually call "parallel development" though.

I've been playing Call of Cthulhu since 1982 or thereabouts, in any event. And I've been buying CoC games ever since.

In avoiding the Banana Blight future where there are no bananas because they've all died, which tactic do you think will work best: selective breeding or genetic engineering?

Both have their downsides. Both have their upsides. Selective breeding worked once before, when the pre-1970s species of (strongly flavored, sweet, tastes like the Runts flavor) banana was all but wiped out and our current (tasteless, starchy) commercial banana was created. Genetic engineering [science]can just insert the resistance genes and then mass-clone a bunch of plants, they just have to find the right genes and the right vector and we've already found a couple of really good vectors.[/science]

Book of the Damned 1 came out in 2009.

Book of the Damned 2 came out in 2010.

My wife is the office manager at a yacht club here in the Puget Sound area. Good people. Most of the members are worker types, so they spend a lot of time doing maintenance themselves. Some take it to their "guy," drop it off for a week, then pick it up again with all maintenance completed for the half year or year.

That having been said, when you do buy a boat (and let's assume now that it is the first if you are to have many), do you know what you would want to name it?

Are you ready for the surge of friends you will have each year during Seafair? Fourth of July for fireworks over Lake Union? Would you participate in the Christmas light boat parades?

Who if any would you say was the coolest pirate? Fictional or factual, or both if you like?

Why do you think people are so keen on adding things to historical people, like the horns on Viking helmets? And why is it that most people either prefer the "tarted" up version or believe it to be the real one?

Doctors are quite common in the role of antagonist in various books and movies, as are dentists and nurses, why is that do you think?

What would you say is the most scary occupation a villain can have?

I'm still a long way away from naming it, but someone a few posts back suggested I name it after my favorite Pathfinder Iconic, Merisiel. And at this point, if I bought a boat tomorrow, that'd be what I'd do.

And if having a boat increases the circle of friends, that's a good thing, yeah? As long as they're GOOD friends and not BAD friends.

Jack Sparrow.

Because some people are too creative for their own good.

Because we're afraid of doctors because of the fear that they'll tell you something really bad is going on with you that you didn't know about; fear of doctors is a sort of proxy fear for fear of disease or death.

Clown.

Clown.

Clown originally meant a rough, rustic, foolish guy, often with a big club (Klunni, Norse = clumsy). Villain meant a poor peasant (person from the villa[ge])... They mean the same thing.

In other words, hicks. Clowns and Villains have been the same thing since a long time ago.

Facepaint and a fascination with kids doesn't really help, though.

I can't recall many villainous clowns in Golarion outside of the Carnival of Tears.

Who would be the fiend responsible for evil clowns in Golarion?

Paizo Employee Creative Director

I suspect Norgorber's behind most of the clown-related activity in Golarion. He's the closest thing the gods have to a serial killer.

Upon being shown the pictures of Aldern Foxglove, Ironbriar and the other Norborger cultists while playing through the Skinsaw Murders, our group began referring comically to the lot of them as the "Insane Clown Posse".

In Pathfinder #1, on page 72, the opening of the article on Thassilon has a picture of a big bridge running into a mountain with a face carved into it, with what i think is a city at the mountain's base.

My party and I are level 2 characters who have just defeated Gogmurt and his tiger and breached Thistletop. We hacked our way into the makeshift walls of the fortress and got rid of all the goblins in the barracks, as well as a token force that apparently heard us in the thorn maze and came to investigate. Our group consists of a barbarian, a rogue, a cleric, and an alchemist. The alchemist has exhausted his bombs and healing for the day, and is too blind to shoot anything and too weak to deal melee damage (he took the Old age adjustments to jack his mental scores up).

We hear the sounds of goblin dogs (we think) scratching behind a door just beyond the main entrance to the goblin fort. If we turn back, we are likely to be eaten by a grue. Or the Sandpoint Devil. If we push on, we will be short on rations, and we dare not sleep here. Do we kill and eat the alchemist, or press forward and spare his life?

Sweeping alignment changes do not bother us in the slightest.

That's a picture of Runelord Alaznist's capital city, Xin-Bakhrakahn, at the base of Hollow Mountain just as the fall of Thassilon was hitting and her empire was being destroyed during Earthfall. That bridge, when it was intact, ran all the way to where Magnimar is today.

Hollow Mountain gets a 10 page entry in the upcoming "Dungeons of Golarion."

For the purposes of transformation, yeah, extracts count as spells. You can't activate spell trigger or spell completion devices, but you can activate normal magic items. Basically, the spell turns you into a fighter, so think of it that way as for what you can and can't do while under its effects.

A magazine of 50 crossbow bolts seems unnecessarily excessive, considering that bolts normally get transported in batches of 10...

The concept of MOST superhero stories is a bit silly. That said, I've always been bored by Captain America. Among the various superbowl movie trailers... the one for Captain America was the least interesting. And that's saying something, considering that there was a trailer for "Transformers 3," sequal to my most hated movie of 2009.

There's been alien/UFO movies all the time. They do seem to come in clots, though. Of the ones you mention, the ones I'm most interested in seeing are "Battle LA" and "Apollo 18." The one I want to see the MOST, though, is "Super 8." "Cowboys & Aliens" looks like it could be really cool too, but I'm looking forward to those other three a lot more. "Paul" could be funny... "Sean of the Dead" was brilliant, after all. I'll go see "I Am Number Four," but I don't expect much from it... I'm getting a vibe from it that makes me think it'll be this year's "Pusher" or "Jumper." And finally, "Skyline" already came out. I saw it, and thought it was perhaps the worst movie of 2010. TERRIBLE movie.'

As for why there's so many coming out this year... because Hollywood does that now and then. One idea comes along, then several other studios do the same thing. Kind of like how parallel development works in the RPG industry, I guess.

Zark wrote:

I'm not sure I could actually compile that list, since my brain doesn't filter movies like "Alien" out of lists of Alien movies. Can't be done. What I CAN do is list my top six Alien/UFO movies and leave "Alien" off the number 1 spot, in which case that list would probably be:

2: John Carpenter's The Thing
3: District 9
4: War of the Worlds
5: The Day the Earth Stood Still
6: Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Honorable mentions include: Fire in the Sky, Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers, V, X-Files: Fight the Future, It! The Terror From Beyond Space!, Forbidden Planet, The Arrival, Angry Red Planet, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, all of the Quatermass movies, The Thing From Another World, They Live, Starman, and The Abyss (even though that one's technically a USO movie)
