Not...loving it. I think it's okay but it's too black where as Thor has a lot of primary colors in his costume. And where's the damn helmet! Also, why does he have that weird legband only on his right leg?
Because he's gay? Or is that only earrings?
My high hopes for this movie are being lowered. Dude's pretty skinny, the costume looks like... well, a costume. Not gonna keep me from seeing it, but...

It's a mashup of the new (JMS/Olivier Coipel) Thor from the main (616) continuity (red cloak, block hammer, gridmail shirt), and Ultimate Thor (tunic, pants, boots, van dyke).

I wasn't a big fan of the axe combo from the Ultimates, but I did like the fact that they made Mjolnir big enough to look like an actual weapon and not something you hang from the rear-view mirror. Ideally I would have liked to see them keep the 616 hammer head, but taken the size of the Ultimates version.

I hope they kept the helm and I'm glad they kept the cape. I hated the axe-hammer of the Ultimates Thor, in fact... I didn't like very much about the Ultimates Thor.
The beard, how could you at the very least not like the beard? The only Norse god who should be clean shaven is Loki, and that's only to let you know you can't trust him.

The van dyke gets no love from me, it made him look like he should picking up some coffee at Starbucks while reading the New Yorker.

Okay, I need to ask...
What's the difference between a goatee and a van dyke?
Edit : All right, I checked...
The goatee is basically a small beard on the chin, sometimes with a mustache, connected or not. Funny, it is also called french beard. Yes, I know, I am french and I have one. Ha-ha.
The Vandyck, or van Dyke (stupid filter), is quite similar, with a major mustache and a small tuff on the chin. More like Napoleon III, Richelieu or the Three Musketeers.

7 screen grabs from the 1st Thor footage (Odin revealed!)
There's also a 4+ minutes video embedded in the article.

He looks too pop culturish to me. I can see the Vikings laughing now as this she-god showed up in battle with all those colourful clothes. A Valkyrie maybe; God of Thunder, no way. Seriously, shouldn't he be covered in grime and salt spray and have a ragged beard? Too bad they never went that direction with it. The guy is friggin huge though.

Seems just about right for Marvel Comic's Thor, to me at least. After all, that is what we are talking about.
Although, looking at some of the actual depictions of Thor throug the ages, it seems like this new movie incarnation is, if anything, a little too swarthy and beareded, and not pretty enough.
And I don't know what to make of the old statuettes that look like garden gnomes.

This Thor is repulsive. Make the damn guy look like a Viking
Yeah, these initial shots are not promising.
Someone like the big viking from The Thirteenth Warrior (who may be too old for this now), or that other Skaarsgard dude (his son?) seems to fit both the build and the look better, IMO.
This guy might have made a better Captain America than Chris Evans, on the other hand (although the dude from The Human Target would be better than both of them, IMO).
Still, the hammer looks dorky in the comic books, and they are clearly trying to stay true-ish to that look, so I can't complain *too* much about how silly it looked at the end of Iron Man 2, and in these sneak previews.
In a case like this, leaked previews of Asgardian sketch-designs or concept art of a troll or something might have been a better 'first glimpse' than showing off Thor or Mjolnir. They kinda shot their wad by showing us the last thing first, it seems.

For the Marvel Thor, I think, he look pretty good. I only read a few of the comics with Thor in them, but in none of those I read did he look like a rugged Viking and on a few panels he looked much more 'pop culture' than on these movie pictures.
I'm still as sceptical as I was to begin with (when I first heard they were doing a Thor movie) bot not more so.

Maybe one of the crewmembers convinced the producers to release it in the hopes that it WOULD backfire, and that they would fire the head of costume design... (maybe that person had been unfireable due to being the son or daughter of someone important... wow, it's like I'm trying to come up with evil DM plots in everything I do! :P )

yeah; well not to many 6"10 inch, heavily muscled guys who are actors who could play the part.
I remember Thor when he had a bit on tv back in the 80's; was pretty skinny then too; his costume; yeah; bit hokey; but could be worse. The guy just looks way to clean cut for me; has no presence. Thor should be larger than life; solid and generally grim and look very noble. I agree; to much black; way to much black; like what the hey; he is not goth; he is a viking; rubber souls; well; maybe their Beatles fans; but it doesnt look to good.
Cant say I would be pleased no matter who they picked; have a few ideas; that guy from the movie; the wrestler; he has the look Thor should have; just needs to be bigger; but they can do that with movie magic; they did with the Lord of the Rings. Mickey Rourke wasnt it?
Mjolnir needs to look massive and deadly. Remember Conan's sword back in the original movie; the weapon master who taught Arnold couldnt even lift it very long; a massive blade. I think Thor's hammer should have about a 4ft haft and look like a 20 lb sledge.
OK the forgot the muscles.
I knew it, another rickety fitness underwear model playing a hugely muscled barbarian god.
I thought I had seen it all with Momoa as Conan.

You probably mean make him look like a Northman; Viking is a verb that pretty much means to go pirate; thus one goes viking not is a viking. Thor being well versed in Mitgard clothing; well, everybody gets a make over now and again; they decided to drop the thees and thous and make him more modern; with one goes the other.
This Thor is repulsive. Make the damn guy look like a Viking for Christ's sake. This looks like he robbed a Stag Shop and got away with some questionable he-she items...

Nice job on the Destroyer - exactly as it appears in the book.
I think the pic looks awesome. Asgard is a little shinier than I would prefer, but then again Marvel Asgard has usually had a bit of a sci-fi sheen on it all the way back to Kirby, so I think I'm good with it.

I think the writers are going for 'magic is super advanced technology' for the movie.
