Not a problem; we're all here to help.
Ok, still working on it, but I'm closer. Got a few questions.
Can anyone (quickly?) tell me how to do/calculate/choose skills? I don't have many points (six I think) so it shouldn't take too long.
I'm thinking about taking shield proficiency -- do I need to take two weapon fighting to be effective with it? Should I take something else?
I'll post what I've got in just a moment.
Urizen |
Correct. You do have 6 skill points, but you can pick up 3 more (an additonal +1 per level) if you want to take advantage of +1 skill pt to designate Paladin as a favored class (or take +1 hp per level).
Your bonus Skill Focus feat will allow you to apply an additional +3 to a skill you specialize in. If you're putting at least a single rank into a class skill, you automatically get to put an additional +3 modifier on there. Is there any skill that you want to specalize in?
You don't need to spend on a Shield Proficiency Feat; you're already proficient automatically due to your Paladin class. Take a look at others for your 3rd level feat.
Since you're wearing breastplate armor, your movement will be reduced to 20' while wearing it.
IIRC, FDM is trusting us on our hp. The way I did it is that I took max on my 1st level and then rolled the next two and added my bonuses.
In your case, it'd be 12 + (2d10+4) or if you take the extra hp per level, it'd be 13 + (2d10+6). If it were me and you're rolling the d10, I'd let you take anywhere in 6 to 10 roll range. But I'm just the player.
Helps some?

Honestly this week is looking really bad for me now. I'm trying to find a spare moment, but I'm trying to get my classes finished up and I just found out I have a meeting tonight I really can't skip. Do you guys think you could wait on me until next week? After Tuesday?
Kristin has finals, and right now we are down to just one laptop (mine went kaputski) so we should be able to start after next tuesday. Is that all right with everyone else?
Urizen |
Ok, I think I'm done. Someone want to check my character out to make sure everything is correct?
If you're worried about a +1 to your AC, dump Shield Focus and pick up Dodge as you have the minimium dex required. If for some reason you decide to dump using a shield or happen to be without one, you'll thank yourself.
As for your Weapon Focus, you need to define the one weapon that you're focusing on to get the +1 for the attack roll.
Finally, am I reading this correctly(?):
Ranged: Jyg +4 (1d8+2 /x2), Light Hammer +4 (1d4+2 /x2), Dagger +4 (1d4+2 /19-20 x2)
Did you list my PC as a ranged missile weapon? Heh. But seriously, you'll want to include the range for each weapon for quick reference.

Possibly. But I don't like the dodge "tree" for this character and was considering focusing more on the shield. (But maybe there's not enough there either since my dex isn't 15 and I'm not a fighter.)
I'm still not sure. I'll think about it. It's the age-old thing with Paladins -- you can't distribute your stats around enough.

So what is your range? (Actually I was just really making sure that someone actually read the character sheet.) What was it called in the X-Men? Fastball Special?

You basically answered your own question. You're limited by the one you'd like to progress in whereas the other I suggest you may not be interested in going further through its tree of feats, but it'll give you more instances of having that +1 that you seemed to intend to want because of the shield. But it's your character. I've given mine certain limitations that I didn't necessarily need. :P

I thought it was hilarious; I approve. :D
Not sure what what my range would be. How far can one toss a midget, anyway?

+1
That's what the throw anything feat states. If it doesn't have a range increment treat it as 10'
now all we have to figure out the damage for Jyg'g
Maulfeuer Brandstifter |
In addition to finding out what impact damage is involved ... I will have those spiked gauntlets ...
... and then I could start raging in a grapple and bite as well.
Yes....so looking forward to it.

Woody - I haven't forgotten about the background bit. I'm procrastinating. :D
same here for the background. The loner type is so overdone but it seems to fit the character. Why am I picturing us as a walking Abbot and Costello routine with me as Abbot and Jyg'g as Costello

Damn! Yes. I was thinking along those lines too. ;)
The part I'm wracking my brain is .... how did we meet? Has to be something f'd-up but funny as hell.

Character from some of the Drizzt novels. He's basically a dwarven lawn dart.
Now back to lurking...
EDIT: Oh, they changed how dots work. No reason to post under an alias then since I'm getting a dot anyway.

I got to do some yard work today, but I hope to have some sort of a background before evening's end.
Where's everyone else on this?
I don't want the initial enthusiasm to die down. :/
Finals week just ended for me. as far as background I am drawing a blank still.
Jyg'g Mikrotherion |
Preliminary introduction. May need a little polishing. It includes two other participants ... one who has a 'speaking role' done on my behalf.
Harvested from an unholy union from a realm best left unknown, Jyg’g was on the run from a rabid band of dire vegepygmies; angered by his poaching of rhubarbs from their garden. He was not about to let them corner him at the edge of the approaching cliff. With a quick flash of a rude gesture, Jyg’g leaped with reckless abandon and fell quickly down into a dark, deep chasm. He was able to control his descent due to the ring of feather falling he wore on his index finger (he had conveniently discovered it on a ogre’s decapitated hand; never mind the fact that he had sliced the beast’s neck a moment’s prior due to its inability to deliver a humorous ‘short’ joke…).
His eyes accustomed to the dark, he waited for the right moment to reach out for a jagged precipice of stone that appeared to connect to a tunnel. As he pulled himself over, he felt a strong gale of wind push him with immense force into the dark, dank cavern. Jyg’g had trouble focusing his eyes as there were flashes of different colors of light appearing at random intervals. Unable to withstand the velocity of the speed he was traveling, he quickly became queasy and tried with difficulty to keep the contents within his stomach from flowing upwards to his mouth.
Jyg’g felt quite constricted and claustrophobic as the walls of the cavern narrowed to the point where he could no longer freely move his limbs. At this point, he was unable to contain within the tumultuous burbling of bile flowing into his mouth. As the vomit began spewing forth, a bright light suddenly appeared. Jyg’g then found himself flying through the air as if he were shot out from a cannon. With tremendous force, he barreled head first into the chest of what appeared to be a ghastly dark-complexioned humanoid; covering him in spewed chunks of partially digested rhubarbs.
Stunned for only a mere moment, he lifted his head and turned around to see the astonished face of a nubile raven-haired half-elven woman on what appeared to be a stage. To his left and his right, he could see a number of individuals rising out of their chairs. Some appeared dumbfounded while others were whistling and cheering with glee; pumping their fists up in the air and clapping loudly for an encore. As he was about to scramble away, the humanoid grabbed him by the scruff of his collar and swiftly dragged him out of the theater.
“Lemme goes! Lets Jyg’g goes!” he howled defiantly.
“How’d you get in there? The woman didn’t show no signs. Now you quit your wiggling or ole Maulfeuer here will see to it … permanently.” Jyg’g took his word for it and stopped squirming. “Never mind now … we got to get you out of here. All the mess that you made. The Marquis will not be pleased. Come now; ole Maulfeuer knows the way.” Without waiting for Jyg’g to react, he tugged him by the scruff of his collar, scooped him up into his right arm and proceeded to run out into the street. After a couple of sharp turns and retracing his tracks to ensure they were not being followed, Maulfeuer ducked into a dark alley between a pair of dilapidated abandoned warehouses.
He casually dropped Jyg’g onto the ground. “Yeah,” he muttered under his breath. “You definitely made a mess. This just won’t do.” With quick movement, he lit what appeared to be a match on fire off the heel of his boot. He carefully burned off some of the bile and chunks of rhubarb off of his clothes; swiftly disintegrating into ashes. Jyg’g’s eyes opened wide with amazement as he then witnessed Maulfeuer scooping the ashes with the palm of his hand and shoveled it into his mouth. “Tastes good when cooked; it sure does,” he chuckled with a sinister sneer. “Now then… what the hell are you?”
“Jyg’g.” was the response.
“Where you from?” Maulfeuer continued to inquire. He received only a silent shrug of the shoulders as the response. “Well….then. You’re too ugly to be a halfling and too short to be an orc, so ole Maulfeuer’s gonna call you an orcling. How’s that sound to you, boy? Now let’s get moving’ as all this commotion you caused will light a huge fire under the Marquis for damaging’ his club.”
“Jyg’g like huge fire!”
“You’re in good company then, boy,” Maulfeuer sneered. “Now hustle… damn you can move!” as Jyg’g sprinted quickly ahead of him.

I like it period or I like it exclamation point or I like it question mark or I like it ellipses? I'm having a Double Honors self-doubt and need ego-stroking reassurances moment. It was a first draft and I shouldn't be speaking on behalf of other PCs. You're more than welcome to revise what you would have said and/or done.

Here is where you FAIL, Urizen. Self-doubt and ego-neediness was only before DOUBLE HONORS. Now, and ever after, there is only DOUBLE HONORS.
