Whenever you get a chance, can you stat up a young dog for your profile?

One puppy added to the profile. I think I may want to keep him at home until he gets a little bigger.

Right over to you guys. Stuvoy is pretty busy dealing with the missing fishermen (ask Kurn) and preparing for the Festival. There will be people coming from the outlying smaller villages like Umea, perhaps.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

Kurn will lead a service or remembrance at the shrine for villagers apparently captured/killed by the pirates. After the service, Kurn sends a message to Sawrik and requests a meeting with him and fishermen to discuss ways of dealing with the pirate threat to the fishing fleet.

Kurn will talk to Ragnar on the quiet as a fellow sailor to ask his opinion. "We need to find a way of either arming/protecting the fishing fleet and/or dealing with the pirate threat if possible, or there won't be a fishing fleet left at this rate. I've asked Sawrik for a meeting to discuss the situation. What is your view my friend? I would value your opinion and of course we need to talk to Stefnir and the others about the whole situation with Stuvoy in general"

Maybe we should have a party level discussion about the future of Stuvoy and our part in it before Ragnar and I talk to Sawrik?

If it's ok with you FW I'm making both Anya's events to have happened the same day.

Anya walks back into town leading a beautiful mare. The animal is obviously still wild yet it seems to have been tamed by the big woman. As she heads to her sister Helga notices Anya's expression to be a thoughtful one. In answer to the question the babrbarian pulls her sister to the side and says quietly "Tell me more about the dverge..."

FW

Spoiler:

1-Before I decide, can you tell me more about Shire Horses?
2-Didn't Anya meet the Dwarf prisoner? And what became of him anyway??

The Exchange

Kurn - I see no reason that the party cannot meet up for a chat at your longhouse on the evening after the three weeks are up.

Anya

Spoiler:
Shire horses are very large animals with thick shaggy coats and manes. They were used in Britain to plough fields and you may have seen the like in "Thirteenth Warrior". Treat as a heavy horse which someone may be able to train up into a combat animal. As for the dverge, the prisoner is still in the High Hall and yes, Anya did meet him.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

To Anya:

"The dverge? What little I know of them is that they are hardy people, small but powerful. They mine the earth and forge fine weapons and armour, but are rarely found above the ground in numbers unless compelled by circumstance or war. They are always presented as honourable people who keep their word and hold to any contracts made. To break a treaty with a dverge is to invite war. Why, Anya, what has happened?"

You can make that check but the main essential is that Votagor's drakkar cannot be easily beaten by small fishing vessels, unless they are in swarms. There is a drakkar in the cove, an unmmanned drakkar which everyone saw a Qin warrior practice on when the Albatross arrived.

Okay, with that roll here is a general reminder of the gossip in Stuvoy.

The Qin drakkar lost its crew of Krieglanders, leaving the Qin high and dry. The crew either left to join Votagor or fled into the woods.

As for the warships of Stuvoy, Bombur used them to ferry his warriors to war against the dwarves. At that time, last spring, there was no Votagor and no raiding fleet. There were men working in Stuvoy. Now there is little of anything, except threats.

Okay, with that roll here is some of fisherfolk gossip in Stuvoy, stuff that Ragnar must have picked up during the last weeks.

The Qin drakkar lost its crew of Krieglanders, leaving the Qin high and dry. The crew either left to join Votagor or fled into the woods. The reasons for this are not widely talked about, especially by the closed-mouthed Qin.

To Sawrik:

"My sister, Anya, saw something you should be aware of: a group of dverge, patrolling the forest near here, and I am thinking our prisoner's friends may be intending to visit.

"I have given the matter of this prisoner some thought ... perhaps there is a way to resolve this matter honourably without coming to blows with the dverge? I do not deny that he slew the man, but perhaps the dverge can be persuaded to buy his life with a weregild? With his blood not spilled there's no need to fight, and surely Stuvoy has enemies enough for now.

"Indeed, if we got them to pay with, say, swords or other weapons, the village would be the stronger to face other threats."

I mentioned it to Wellard but he's kind of over-booked at the moment. Helga knows nothing of Ari's quest, so she won't think of informing him of the dverge here.

Anya nods her head to Helga's suggestion, trusting her sister to use the right words to explain things.

As Anya enters the longhouse, she leads the huge horse right in behind her. Ignoring the comments and squawks from any who are bothered by this she walks right up to the young lord. Without preamble she says "Lord Mercik. On my last day of the hunt the fates bestowed upon me the chance to catch this mighty mare. It took some work to bring her in line but should be trainable now. I prefer my own two feet to get about though so, as this great steed is obviously fit for none less than a Lord, I propose a trade. Sometimes I'd wait to see if a dice roll is really needed, this time it isn't.

Lord Mercik claps his hands and jumps down from the high seat to pat the mare. He seems very happy indeed and lost in the world of horses.

Saorise/stardust

Spoiler:
Saorise has taken a few weeks to recover from the burning of Drago's ship. The ice sorceress had been trained to hunt down and stop the actions of rogue and power-hungry mages acting for themselves. She had not been able to discuss the matter with Jorgen, the matter of what happened when the shrine was cleansed.
Her fragmented memories come back in ones and twos while she sleeps and dozes during the days, probably more will return over time. Three of the strongest are these
1.....when left on board there was darkness all around and then blackness engulfing and swallowing the soul. There was a bitter and angry hate that filled every inch of the body, fingering and gripping every nook and cranny....
2....there lay the body of Drago left by the foolish warriors, the rune magic took hours to grow and bend, to carve the runes on the leg plank and embed the magic into his dead body and no blood spurted or dripped from the corpse. Never forget the hot pleasure of power when Drago's eyes opened and that soulless green and red fire burned within him. The power to bring back to life the dead! But Drago had no strength of mind, no will and no heart, and who can forget the words slipping out of my mouth, "kill the villagers! kill them all!" Saorise hid under the ship as the ex-captain and zombie slowly disembarked. The last thing she heard was the screams....
3.....oh the fear of burning, the fear that brought intense pain and even strength of mind to almost break free. But the runecaster and dwarf had power too and he held on for grim death. The light, the light of freedom that said it could help, that it was cold and in the blood, like a pet or friend able to bring that extra ounce of ambition to break free. Without that presence and support, my body would have burnt but instead as the blackness fled, I jumped into the sea in agony but no longer possessed. Thank Krakis for the cooling sea......
It is hard to face up to the damage and power that that possession marked her with. isn't it? What will Jorgen do when there is no sign that the runecaster is no longer inside?

Welcome Stardust : )

Anya can't help but smile slightly at the young lord enthusiasim, as well as his slip of the tongue. However Anya is a simple woman, of simple needs and wants and greed has never been one of her failings. Female Human Barbarian/2

Anya simply nods her head at the young Lord, signifying that she is satisfied with that arrangement, for now. She pat's the mare's flank affectionately and with a rather stern look at the young man says "Take good care of her." Without waiting for a reply she then turns and indulges in the festivities.

At some point, feeling a strange feeling, which she eventually realizes is guilt, she heads over towards Breda. She brings over a flagon, passes it the woman and, clapping her over the shoulders, hoists her mug and says "For your father. He died bravely, as a warrior should, and surely now he is drinking and whoring and telling tall tales in the halls of Valhala."

The Exchange

Okay, I'd rather everyone contributes over the next week to resolve all their loose ends and try to decide a course of action. Otherwise the game will drag on another week and I'll have to be more directive instead of letting you guys spend time planning and the like. We all know what can happen to games that don't remain energised so lets post!

Anya finds Breda cold and distant company. She is preparing to patrol along the coast towards the next villages and bring back anyone willing to come to the Festival of Samthain in five days time. Mercik leads the horse away with a solid smile.

I have Kurn, Ari, Jorgen, Ragnar, Helga and Saorise in the longhouse. Can we assume that Stefnir and Anya return for a meet.

As Helga leads him into the long house, Jorgen takes in Saorise with an expression none can recall seeing on his face before... a smile, warm and heart-felt, relief radiating from the man, sloughing off a tension that until now was not allowed to show.
