As Stefnir conjures a ball of flames into his hand he choses the nearesturchin in its niche high in the ceiling. With a long over-arm throw, the ball sails up and impacts on the niche. Most of the fire causes no harm but some does enter burning into the creature.
Kurn's healing provides succor for Anya in her hour of need. Ari bravely stays and fights.
Then the vine strikes out at one of the Krieglanders.
Chosen at random Anya=1, Ari=2, Kurn=3, Ragnar=4 1d4 ⇒ 4
Vine attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26, Damage 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15. Grab and constrict attempt on Ragnar 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30, Damage 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11. Total damage 26 pts.
The main vine slashes across at Ragnar's face and almost opens his jugular but the thorns slice into scarred flesh at his throat instead. Before he can respond, Ragnar feels the shock and pain as the thick vine twists round his neck and begins to crush his shoulders and arms.
Ragnar Stolen-Voice |
Vision swimming, the sound of his own pumping blood filling his ears, Ragnar struggles for one last slash at the vine before blacking out.
Dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
And I am now unconscious at -1

Yes on all counts however its -2 to attack and Ragnar will indeed end up on -1 hits. Rest of the party to act now, i.e. Jorgen, Ragnar and Helga. No one else please act in case something happens at the end of the round (that does not include reactig to any successful Perception checks).
Brett, let's try to read what I am writing just a bit better please.

Anya is fighting on but has taken some serious hits, Ragnar is a floppy constricted thing - unconscious and bleeding. Everyone else is fairly okay, although Ari has to make a Fort save vs poison DC13. Stefnir also needs to save a Reflex save vs being entangled - something I've only just noticed on my map.
Anya Fiend-Fury |
Squaring her feet to support herself on her shaky legs, Anya grits her teeth in fury and again tries to hue the plant down.
Attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage:1d12 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
thanks again FW, very fair of you. Also just wanted to check as you didn't mention it, Anya's attack missed last turn?

Just to give you an insight for the future had I rolled a 1, the vines would have gone for Anya and slotted her in all probability. I'm not that fair or soft and cuddly. The last attack did miss on a 13.
Anya's axe rips into the main body of the vines and green leaves scatter. The plant monster keeps on fighting.
French Wolf |
NPC Jorgen
Perception check 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Jorgen turns and runs outside.
Jorgen
French Wolf |
Jorgen breaks into a run, barrelling down the beach towards the chaos.
How long will it take to get there at a run?
Jorgen can reach the boats on this side of the cove. Then it is about 300 feet or more across the open water to the stony beach and the terrified fisherfolk. There are two large fishing boats waiting with an old man and old woman in a bit of a shocked daze standing near the inquisitor.
French Wolf |
The strikes of Ari, Stefnir and Anya bite home. Ragnar regains conscious as his bonds ease and the vines all stop moving. With a collective sigh of relief, the air is punctured by the sound of phut, phut.
Urchin spine at Stefnir 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4, and Kurn 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The last of the mossy vines slides to a stop against the walls of the shrine. And Kurn's desperate plea brings the sound of gurgling and crashing waves all about.
Kurn
Ragnar Stolen-Voice |
Ragnar rises to his feet, surveying the situation. He loads a bullet into his sling, watching the urchins above the party.
Rising and loading the sling are move actions, so that would be my turn.
Anya Fiend-Fury |
Hearing her sister Anya suddenly remembers the strange feeling she had regarding the people om the beach.
Grinding one arm of the plant thing under her heel out of pure spite the barbarian allows her fury to fade.
Fatigue and renewed pain from herb wounds washes over her but the stalwart warrior still manages to make her way outside as fast as she can. Still careful those of any attacks from the spine creatures
Is a Ref or acrobatics roll needed to avoid an AoO?
French Wolf |
Anyone that stays in the Krakis Shrine is in rounds, otherwise things are a bit more fluid. I'll describe what the scene across the cove when I have a bit more time.
Feel free to roleplay a little bit if you wish as you leave.
Jorgen is already outside commanding one old man at his fishing boat to hurry, Kurn is staggering out white as a sheet, Anya has charged out after Helga.
Ragnar Stolen-Voice |
The mute sailor picks up his dropped axe and dagger from the shrine floor, sparing a murderous glance at the urchins above. He staggers out behind the rest, pausing to hack and cough. He spits blood and phlegm onto the beach and turns to see what the commotion is about.
Anya Fiend-Fury |
As the healing energy washes over her Anya turns a grateful smile on her sister.
Then, noticing Ragnar, Anya grabs Helga's shoulder, pointing him out and hoping her talented sister can do something to help the gravely injured warrior as well.
Anya is now at 18hp I believe. Oh, and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & an early Happy New Years everyone! : )
