”Windswept seas where men cling to frozen drakkars as they trade or raid, the chink of hammers at the soulless dwarven forges, the ice choked forests of pine that hide snow elf and gnome from the mountain freezes. Forget the farms, the livestock and the hot mead on your lips, remember that the chill spell-curser of winter is coming and all will die” Ode to the Fallen King Leifa

“The Marked Albatross” is a first level Pathfinder adventure coming and I am looking for a novice party to take it on. There will be Viking ships, there will be a taboo against dweomercrafters and their arcane magicks, and there will be ice dragons for those that stay the course.
Also there are Qin, inscrutable elven traders from an Empire across the sea, desperate to gain more weapons and foodstuffs in their battle against the demonic races over the Marble Wall.

Beyond that I intend to read Kingmaker carefully so there may be an element or two of that in this game, also I hope to include some Ravenloft (a setting that ranks second only to my love of Arabian adventures) and finally the adventure will take advantage of my play-by-post experience gained over the last three years on these boards.

The Commitment
My other current game is moving at about the pace I’d like to see this one at, that means if you cannot commit to posting daily during the week then don’t volunteer to join in. Expect me to NPC your actions, especially during combats if you are holding the play up without the simple courtesy of notice or a warning. If that continues, don’t be surprised if your PC is killed off or simply walks away. It sounds harsh and I know that real life can get in the way of play but I just want people to understand their commitment when I am investing a fair amount of my free time to running this and all the other players are champing at the bit to get on with things.

As you can probably tell, I have been involved with some bad apples, players in the past, who have tainted my enjoyment. So priority to play in this game will be along these lines;
1) Mark Laverock, Flash-cxxi, Khaladon and Mothman get first refusal to play since they were the last men standing in my game which ended around Christmas.
2) Anyone else who I have gamed with successfully such as therealthom, Rags, Brett, etc. The list is pretty long and I hope you guys and gals know who you are; even if you cannot play because of all the other stuff you are playing in.
3) The enthusiastic others.

I’ll give it a few days so that anyone interested gets a chance to throw their hats in the ring and then I’ll choose about five or six suitable gamers and an alternate or three.

Also between now and then on the Discussion Thread, I’ll start providing a more detailed Players Guide to help everyone.

I'm interested Although If you don't mind me asking will it just be pathfinder races?

The Exchange

Probably yes to that one, Kevin.

Thanks

I've got a half-Orc Cleric of Besmara (God of Pirates) whom I'm playing in a real life game if you think that would fit.

I'm interested, if you'll have me in. I'm on all the time and I run two games, so I'll be around a lot.

I am interested. Sounds like an interesting game.

I did a pretty good Viking skald (a Bard) in a one-shot game a friend ran for us just before I moved house - would a bard be appropriate for this game? If so I can recreate Ethelbert ...

FW, this game sounds awesome, especially with the cast you're trying to pull together. I, unfortunately, am feeling somewhat maxed out. Running a second PbP has really got me spending more time on the computer: the second game is suffering and RL is getting cheated too. So I must bow out. I wish you all the best with this though.

Liberty's Edge

I'll play mate!

Cleric for hire as always!

Cheers

Brett

Hi French Wolf

I would like to give your game my utmost attention, so hope you will let me play

Thanks

Mark

There seems to be an intelligent (relatively) human Barbarian (who may get a level or Rogue thrown in) who seems to be knocking at the door of my creativity chamber. If he and I will be welcome I'd love to let him out to play. Hmmm, or He may even be a She! Could be interesting to have a tough as nails warrior making her living in a male dominated viking-like environment.

Also, I fully understand, agree with and will abide to your rules and sentiment on making a commitment to playing this game.

Hrrmmm … I have a Viking type character around for a game that never really got off the game … but I think I might have to regretfully decline the kind offer on this one FW. It’s just too early in the working year for me to know if the craziness that was the second half of last year is going to continue or not – if it does, I don’t think I’ll realistically be able to stick to as regular a posting schedule as you and I would like.

Good luck, and thanks again for the offer.

I've finished work now and am off to bed, but I just wanted to say a quick thank you for all those that responded already.

It might be a good idea to think about what class/race combo you want to play after I've started on the guide to the area.

The first parts of that will be done in the next twenty four hours or so.

Cheers and Good night.

I'd love to come along for the adventure! I've just recently discovered PBP (D&D 4e over at enworld, where the DM of my very first game has apparently disappeared :) and also just picked up the PFRPG Core rulebook from my local bookstore in order to enjoy some 3.5 goodness.

Posting frequently is not a problem (software engineer, so I'm always on) - though this would be my first Pathfinder game, and my first 3.x game in a long time.

I love that you set expectations early on. Looking through past games (here and enworld)...many seem to have some seriously long gaps in the action.

Human Wizard is my first inclination...just imagining the badass-ity of him standing near the bow casting ice/water spells at a nearby vessel!

I'd be interested if you have room, I'll probably select a class to enhance or round out the party.

Another game with Mark, Keegan & Kevin... count me the hell in, that's the makings of a Grade A game right there! :D

Plus the fact that you mentioned Ravenloft hooked me straight in... Ravenloft is my favourite Setting and I've been attempting to find a Ravenloft PbP to take part in to no avail...

When you say "a taboo against dweomercrafters and their arcane magicks", do you mean that there is no magic, no Arcane magic, or just that Arcane magic is frowned upon and anyone who wields it will be looked down upon/roasted at the spit? I only ask because a few of my concepts involve magic, both Arcane and Divine and this would colour my choice.

Some ideas I am playing with currently:
Rogue/Wizard or Sorcerer (with the possibility of utilising Arcane Trickster): I have a character I'm currently playing, who is one of my earliest PbP characters and who I love playing but I wanted to have another shot at a similar style of character.
Inquisitor: This Class looks interesting and I would like to give it a try.
Oracle: I love this Class and was going to attempt to play it in Louchaude Keep but obviously I missed that opportunity (no hard feeling just in case that sounded like I was sour or something...). I have a feeling that Natashja won't exactly fit into this game, so possibly another type of Oracle... Air or Water perhaps?
Sorcerer: I'm always looking for another excuse to play a Sorcerer (it is by far my favourite Class at the moment after the Bloodline treatment given it by Pathfinder). I've attempted a few of the Bloodlines so far and I have a few concepts floating around for others.
Sorcerer/Oracle/Mystic Theurge: I'd like to look into trying something with this combination.
You mentioned Ice Dragons above and so any chance to attempt another Dragon Disciple build is always welcome to me... I currently have 2 I've built (Charsis & Ryethil) and have at least 2 more concepts, one of which involves a Silver Dragon (cold environment?), but I'd be happy to hear about your Ice Dragons and incorporate that into a concept.
In most of these cases I would be thinking Human, although I was also contemplating a Half-Orc with the Veiled Vileness Feat from the Golarion Campaign Setting book for the Inquisitor.
Just so as you know too, I tend to play my Spellcasters differently to the way a lot would probably say is the "right" way t do it. I play to a RPing theme rather than a power build (this includes Spell Selection). If you don't think this fits and people want a DPS or Buff monster then I'd probably think about playing a non-caster.

I'm assuming that you're only going to be using Core Pathfinder Classes and Races (ie. from the Core Rulebook only) and no 3PP Pathfinder sources? I only ask as there are a few Races and Classes from both other Pathfinder material (AP/Chronicles/Companion) and some of the published 3PP books that I am interested in playing. I don't care if you're not allowing this, I just thought I would mention it as a possibility in case.

OK, so that will do for a start... hope that wasn't too much for you. :)

As an aside: FW, do you have a copy of Cities of Golarion? I only ask because when I read about your setting I immediately thought of the writeup on Whitethrone in that book. I just thought you might be able to mine it for some story ideas. :)

First off, therealthom and Mothman I seem to be blessed with good players for this and I understand how busy you both are. I didn't expect this many responses so let's cut things off now.

Before I start talking about who is in already, I'd like to reiterate that in the past I have chosen players randomly or on a first-come first-served basis, this time it is purely a subjective decision based firstly on whether or not I know something of your track record on these boards. This is highly unfair but should mean that the game benefits in the long run and as the DM that is my main concern.

Right, Mark Laverock, Khaladon and Flash you are all in.

Then the players that I know from previous games (and incidentally I rate all of you in the "thank you for being interested" league)
Brett1815
Dabbler
James Keegan
Kevin Mack
Mark Thomas
scranford

I'd like to DM all of you but nine players is just a bit too cumbersome for me to handle in the long run. I'll think about a way of resolving that while I start on the guide. Maybe that information will make a couple of you chaps lose that interest.....

Celestial Half-Porc and Yzard I shall respectfully say "no thank you" at this point, however please can I keep your posts on file for when one or more of the players drops out and I need a good replacement?

Cheers and I think we can move over to the Discussion Thread now anyway.

Heh, I knew from the post count of French Wolf's other game and the names appearing in this thread that it was going to be one hell of a group. Good viking guys!

The Exchange

Cheers Set.

Looks like the beginning of yet ANOTHER thread I shall spend too much time reading! :)

Thanks for the offer FW, But like the others I'll have to bow out of this one. RL is becoming quite the annoyance at times. I appreciate the consideration, but for now it's all I can do to keep up with the threads I'm in!

You all have fun! And I'd buckle up. If I know FW, it's gonna be a ride! ;)

Cheers!

The Exchange

Rags I'll see you in the two, no, three other games we play in together.

Cheers

Wolf - Cool, thanks for the opportunity. And definitely PM me if something opens up!

Dark Archive

Not meaning any disrespect but I believe I shall pass on this one

The Exchange

Kevin, thanks for showing an interest. Luckily I have your company in two other games.

Cheers
