Liberty's Edge

Rurik fires his crossbow into the melee, but trying to avoid hitting the injured Dresiro leads him to fire quite wide and into the stone wall.

Flash draws back his arm with a dagger, watching for the orc to have an opening.

Osric, you are up next, followed by Dresiro.

"FINISH HIM!!" Wolf-Sark roars in battle-lust.

Subzero wins! Flawless victory......sorry couldn't help myself

With every last bit of energy, Dresiro brings his sword around in an arc down on the orc leader.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Damage 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Male Half Orc Fighter

why is it I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn?

Liberty's Edge

Osric moves forward, swinging wide with his falchion though the orc manages to bat the blade away with his own sword, narrowing his eyes at the half-blood.

The distraction of the attack is enough to let Dresiro bring up his own sword in his shaky hands, cutting the leader across his chest and splitting him open. The orc drops to the ground, though with his strength waning Dresiro collapses with him.

Making the attack will leave Dresiro bleeding, though combat is now really over.

The dice can be a fickle beast, Osric.

Flash moves to the fallen elf and tries to stop the bleeding.

Heal check 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15

"Hah! Well done, elf! You have earned the right to fight again with your valor."

Wolf-Sark lays his hands on Dresiro and pours the last of his healing energy into him.

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Darn, wasted a good roll.

Liberty's Edge

The warmth flows out from Wolf's hands into the body of the paladin, even as Flash quickly works to stop the bleeding from wounds that magically heal over. Dresiro comes to an instant later, leaving you all alone in the massive hall.

Flash gets up from the floor after seeing his efforts rewarded, and looks around the hall. He says to the group "Let me have a look at the throne for a moment."

Cast Detect Magic and walk down the hall until the throne comes into range. Concentrate as needed to pick up any info.

Male Half Orc Fighter

"There are many rats infesting this hole. I begin to wonder why."

Male Half Orc Fighter

~Osric will slowly walk to AI31 to look through the door~

Wolf-Sark checks the bodies of the dead beastmen (and women) for loot, also checking for magical auras.

Liberty's Edge

Ugh, I had put up a post right after flash said he was detecting magic and it must have gotten eaten. I didn't realize until just now.

Looking over the room for any signs of magic, the room itself seems to be empty. However, the two casters who search around would notice that there are hints of a very powerful magical aura that appears to be leaking in from around the edges of the door in the middle of the northern wall(AI31).

Gear on the corpses:

Banded mail
Greataxe x2
Chain mail
Heavy shield
Masterwork longsword
Falchion
Hide armor
Studded leather

"Thank you Wolf-Sark, I am glad my valor pleases you. I am still injured and am going to stay farther back till I can recover more."

Flash after concentrating for a moment sees Osric heading towards the door and says to him:Hold warrior, that door has some magical auras around it appearing to come from the other side. I would advise you to wait at least until we are ready to proceed!"

"I hate cowardice, but you should all know that I can heal no more today. So if you fight, be ready to greet Death with glad arms!"

Wolf-Sark examines the banded mail. "I could use some better armor, but I've already taken my share of loot for today." He pats the fine (albeit dingy) longsword he took from the other room. "Grab whatever strikes your eye, comrades!"

"I would like this longsword and shield if no one objects. I shall brave the front line, hopefully this makes me harder to hit." Wolf-Sark's words strike courage into the heart of Dresiro.

"Osric, it looks like you have first right to this fine armor, if you like," Wolf-Sark indicates the banded mail. "And someone else can take the chain mail."

Is the Heavy Shield Steel or Wood?

Isn't the only real difference weight, selling price and what effect some spells have?

"Heavy magic behind this door? Must be awfully important." Rurik kneels down next to the door and inspects if for any sign of traps, arcane or mechanical.

Taking 20 on the Perception check, if we've got the time. (25 total)

Liberty's Edge

The shield is steel.

Rurik looks over the door carefully, examining it for any signs of danger and finding none.

As Rurik examines the door, he says"Are we pressing onwards then?"

Dresiro straps his curve blade to his back then picks up his newly acquired sword and shield, "This will have to do. Shall we men?"

Male Human Bard 1

Seeing nothing he needs really, Karth recovers what arrows he can and readies for the next room "Yes, I say we go forward. I also say we bundle this and take what we are not keeping back to the other room with the rest." He says as he readies to move on

Liberty's Edge

If you guys are continuing to press on, just let me know which door you plan on heading through next.

If we can wait for two minutes, and if no one else minds, Wolf-Sark will put on the chainmail armor (with some help from his friends). After that, we'll open the door to the magic aura.

Liberty's Edge

The door opens into a short hallway that ends at a tattered black curtain half covering an archway. Looking past the curtain the walls of this oddly-shaped temple are partially covered in tattered red and black curtains. The vaulted ceiling above is painted black. Spattered bloodstains cover the floor, particularly around the plain stone altar resting in front of the deep eastern recess. The place stinks of murder and pain, as well as the musk of some angry beast.

As each of you enter the room you feel an odd sense of anger wash over you. Its not overwhelming, so much as enticing, something that feels like it could be controlled and focused.Effectively you can act as if under the effects of the barbarians base rage power while in this room. It lasts for three rounds or until you leave the room.

Knowledge(Religion) DC 16

Spoiler:
The shrine looks to be dedicated to the beast god. You get the feeling that giving into the power of the room would be similar to giving an altar to the beast god.

Updated Map

Male Half Orc Fighter

Osric will take time and cleans the Banded mail.

"Should we hold up here for a time and eat and recover a bit, then press on? My blade has yet to be fed so pressing on does sound good."

Knowledge Religion 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

As Dresiro moves into the room, he recognizes the crude altar and warns his friends of the lingering feeling. "This altar is dedicated to the beast god. Do not succumb to the hatred that beckons us, it will only taint your soul."

Male Dwarf Rogue 1(Favored Class: Wizard)

"You want to sleep in the temple of a dark god? I thought you had more sense that that. Still, there could be good loot in here, if we were willing to commit sacrilege."

Flash chimes in "Well what did we come for, but if not to loot and pillage these temples and other such chambers? Still, I would not want to lay in this place, and perhaps wake up strapped to the altar."

"Let's loot this place quickly, and then begone. I'll start by smashing this foul altar."

Wolf-Sark grabs a piece of furniture and tries to bash the altar into pieces with it.

Str check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Liberty's Edge

The altar proves to be surprisingly resistant, but taking some time you are able to bash it apart, cracking the stone and toppling it to the floor. Behind where the altar stood, you can see faded images on the wall of some sort of fey creatures and animals in a woodland scene. It looks like it runs up behind the curtains that surround the room.

I'm going to move some of the information that Delirium had about the gods into the discussion thread, and I'll add a bit about the beast god too. I should keep that updated as you uncover new things. As a question, there is some writing about what can be expected in a dungeon like this. None of it is spoiler-ish, but it gives a good idea of the mindset the dungeon is built with. Is anyone else interested in this sort of information?

Sure! Sounds like some interesting stuff.

Male Human Bard 1

"Aye, loot and leave. I have no interest in laying in such a chamber"

Encase they might help to ID the scene
Know nature 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Know,dungeenring 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Liberty's Edge

Its hard to make out much of the scene, but Karth doesn't recognize a lot of the plants in the images. It seems likely that either the plants are purely the result of the artists imagination or are otherworldly.

Knowledge Planar DC:14

Spoiler:
You recognize some of the imagery as that used to describe the fey homeworld.

Male Half Orc Fighter

Osric hangs to the back of the room ever watchful of some new menace and at the same time seems almost fearful to touch the now despoiled alter.

Yeah any extra info would be nice

Flash murmers to himself "Well, I wonder if the destruction of the altar has affected the magical aura in this room." He holds up his hand and points at the broken altar, concentrating for a moment...

cast Detect Magic at the altar, full 3 rounds if necessary.

Liberty's Edge

The broken altar seems to have a stronger remaining aura than the rest of the room, but the entire room seems to be aglow with the power. If you had to guess, it seems more like the room itself seems to be letting off the power but the altar was particularly infused with it.

Is the plan to continue on further at this point or are you thinking to rest? If you want to push forward, which direction are you heading?

Updated Map

What schools of magic does the altar and room radiate?

Liberty's Edge

Enchantment is by far the most powerful school, but there is some abjuration as well.

Flash realizes the enchantment is probably causing the feelings of rage he felt when he first entered the room. Since there is still an enchantment in the room, he doesn't feel comfortable resting here.

"There are still lingering auras in this room. I'd advise finding another place to recuperate."

"Aye, let's go back to the inn to rest. Maybe we can sell some of the swords and other weapons we picked up."

Male Dwarf Rogue 1(Favored Class: Wizard)

"No, going to the inn and back would take too much time. I say we just sleep in one of the storerooms."

I agree, Rurik. One of the other rooms should be safe enough, if not altogether comfortable.

Liberty's Edge

If resting, and staying in one of the rooms looks to be the consensus, any thoughts on what room and what precautions look to be? Give me an idea of that and we can jump ahead to anything that may come or to the next morning, depending. It will also give me a better idea of what I can assume to be your normal night watch.

With Osric gone for a while, you can assume him to be ready to stand watch as needed since he doesn't require a straight 8 hours sleep to refresh.
