BACKGROUND

History:
Fredrick was born to an unusual life. His father Stefano Chiarugi was a minor illusionist, though not the wizardly sort. He was truly a stage magician, putting on simple tricks of slight of hand and ledgermein for peasants too poor to have ever seen real magic, though it seemed he had a bit of sorcery in his blood that gave his tricks a bit of special flash. His life was spent traveling from village to dale in a rickety covered wagon decorated with flames and stars and gargoyles.

A young noblewoman named Minerva Williams was slumming at one of these events in a small village and met the charming hustler and it was from the love that bloomed from this that Fredrick was born. Fredrick's father never could give up the life of a magician however and by the time the boy was 10 much of his mother's fortune had been lost to the road, but Fredrick was happy in his life. His mother insisted that he was classically educated and he spent his mornings and late nights among the books she had saved. However he always had a love for his father's act and every evening and afternoon was spent helping prepare and serving as an assistant for the show.

The boy never had quite the same knack for using his hands that his father had, however, and as he grew older he began to take to his studies to try and find new ways to mimic it and by his 16th birthday his father had to admit that he had surpassed it, the small illusions he performed awing those who came to see them. Still, he wasn't satisfied with what he had learned and was capable of. The books had taught him other things as well, talking of some of the great wizards of old and the knowledges the held.

Not long afterwards, his father left on a journey and promised to return back to him, and show him further arcane secrets. He has not returned. One day he was going to leave the village and find what he is looking for and rescue his mother from this impoverished place.

As it turned out, he was not successful in finding his father, although during his search, but he did discover his father was related to a high ranking wizard elsewhere in Elsmyr Dale. His father was the nephew of Immerstal, who he later learned had arranged for the boy to be spirited away for reasons he still has not been informed. When he asked Immerstal about it, he was told, "Now is not the time." At least he was able to provide for his mother, managing to secure some property near Valehaven for her to settle.

Fredrik was not sure what he meant by that, but then the old wizard offered to sponsor him in a new organization, just created to help secure area from external threats and also combat the growing evils threatening the stability of Elsmyr Vale from the Daemonshade, and other shadowy organizations which were recently exposed by Princess Alis and her retainers .

This new organization called themselves the Guardians, a subsect of the Mages of the Arcane Order. They consist partially of warrior/mages trained in a new fighting style initially developed by the elves of Ilmarond. Melding the fighting style of sword and spell, these souls are known as Magi...

Freddie is confident he can contribute to the defense of his land with this new training. Of course, his first assignment was spent touring the lands of Elsmyr Vale.

Then the call came from...and he was on his way to Port Eldarion to assist Princess Alis in securing her fledgling government....
