The Ungart clan has always been great merchants, and Rurik's father was no exception. Of course, being the third son, Rurik had little chance of inheriting a major position in the family business. Still, that didn't mean Rurik couldn't have a major position in the business. Noticing Rurik's intelligence, his father sent him to a prestigious wizard's acadamy, as you xan never have too many powerful wizards working for you. Of course, when Rurik got there, he got a little distracted.
Cut to one year later. Rurik has learned plenty of things. Unfortunately, they were all things like archery or lockpicking, and not things like cantrips. When his father found out he was paying that much for his son to learn nothing, he was enraged. Tuition was cut, and Rurik was cast out of the clan. He wandered around for a few years when he heard about the Dungeon of Doom (or whatever this place is called). Then, he decided. He was either going to become powerful enough that his father would have to welcome him back into the clan, or he would die trying.
