What is the "transmogrify" spell?

Round 2: Summoner and Witch

Grand Lodge

Hi,

I was reading through the Summoner description and on page 6 under the Evolution Pool section there is mention of a transmogriphy spell, though it does not appear in the spell list for the Summoner. Any details on this, as it appears that the spell would allow for a summoner to change the eidolon's evolutions more frequently than just at level boundaries.

Thanks.

It is a reference to a spell that is not yet released.. basically, it allows you to reconfigure your eidolon... but it has a long casting time and a material component.

Even though i haven't read the spell, I would like to see this as a class ability - else it sounds too much as a must-have-spell.
EDIT: Ok, that's sounds a little different. Still not sure.

I think what we have here is an old Calvin & Hobbes? refference, where the boy Calvin in this comic strip often used a Transmorgriphy device, so what they are saying prob'ly just the polymorphy spell thingies, is my guess... ;-)

Edit: I could be wrong of course ;-P

Any chance we could find out what level it's planned on being?

Thanks.

Transmogrify

Material Component: A cardboard box, on which you have written the word 'Transmogrifier,' and made a dial.

Yeah, but does the dial go to 11?

Without that spell I'm not sure we can completely test out the Eidolon to full affect. Will we get to see it soon to try it out?

There are a lot of spells that I would like to add to this class, and I may have time to polish them off before the playtest ends, but right now, I have bigger priorities.

Given the prominence the spell is given in the text, and how it can significantly effect an Eidolon's performance, do you feel we can adequately play the Eidolons or is it not as powerful as I'm thinking it is?

Its not as powerful as you think it is and it is not really something that you would ever use in combat. The material component price will be significant.

Why do you absolutely NEED the spell... it's a playtest. If the Summoner is an NPC change the Eidolon as you see fit for each encounter. K.I.S.S. If it's a player let them blow a wad of cash if they want it changed... say 1,000gp (similar to Reincarnate).

I'm not saying I absolutely need it, hence the question. The text to me read like it was possibly more significant then it was and I wanted to clarify the point. Thanks Jason for clearing that up.

The material component cost should scale with level. it shouldn't be too prohibitively expensive, but it also shouldn't be something the player does every day or before every encounter. I mainly see it as a just in case spell for when you really need to tailor it for a specific Adventure or when you hit 20th level and are like "Damn... That last respec I did on my Eidolon made him totally suck. I wish I had the epic level handbook..."

<Sigh.> Right. I'll need 1500 in gold dust, two hamsters, some turtle wax and a feather. I don't know, any kind of feather!"

As opposed to the Vrocket Pack, which is great for those with lofty aspirations?

Good idea to plan ahead and throw in two items to keep the rest of the party amused while the summoner is using the remainder for the spell, given the long casting time. ;)
