I would have preferred someplace with more walkability.
If you have never been part of a committee that has run a con before, I'll tell you from first hand knowledge that booking that perfect hotel never happens. Just when you think you have that perfect place, large enough for your needs, reasonably priced, close to bus lines, close to food, then for no good reason they yank their offer and you're starting fresh looking for a new place.
Going to any small convention I'm dancing with joy singing Hallelujah Glorioski for any food in a five block radius!

Come to PaizoCon UK 2010 (if you can travel to the UK). If we are able to make our lair in Aston university business school again next year, besides the business school bar in the centre (admittedly charging business school rates) there are two pubs on campus plus the city centre a ten minute walk away with eating venues galore. :)

While it might push the cost up, I wonder if Paizocon...
Unfortunately, downtown Seattle would push the cost up considerably, and probably prevent a number of folks from attending.
I usually put visiting guests up at the Marriot at Redmond Town Center - lots of food and shops all within walking distance. And a game store! Plus it's right on the bus line straight to downtown.

If you guys are interested in a growing southeast convention where gaming is much more in the forefront, check out ConCarolinas in Charlotte, NC. Yes, it's in my backyard. I usually attend as a gaming guest and serve on some of the gaming panels. So I'm more than a little biased. But it's got a better gaming vibe to it than most cons, while remaining small enough to avoid the overwhelming crush of attendees drawn by DragonCon.
Just my two-cents,

That's pretty darn close to where I live. I think I can swing a 1 and a half hour drive to Charlotte for a good con. Plus, the potential of playing in a game with you is a bonus. :)
I kinda like StellarCon and MACE, which are in my backyard, but my son's band schedule has kept us from going lately.
When is the con? Is the hotel rate good? (There's probably a link somewhere out there--off to search)

Ah, my Brothers Kikai, Frost, Shadowborn & Daigle! I had not realized that we were all of such holy leanings!
I, myself, am ordained the Right Reverend Clinton J. Boomer by the Universal Life Church, and I'm pleased as ... PUNCH to learn that we're a denominationally-inclined collective!
Perhaps we can get our next PaizoCon tax-free ...
You can add my name to that list as well. In addition my brother and one of my best friends from the Marines are ordained as well.

I did StellarCon a couple times a few years ago. But not lately. ConCarolinas has grown larger each year and I don't have to drive or even get a hotel room for it. I live within 30 minutes of the convention.
As for MACE, the same guy who coordinates the gaming for MACE also does ConCarolinas and he's a personal friend of mine. So, if you've enjoyed MACE (which is a 100% gaming con), you'll probably like ConCarolinas, too (which is a combination of gaming, fandom, literary tracks, art room, dealer's room, etc....i.e., something for everyone).
When is the con? Is the hotel rate good?
It's June 4-6, 2010 at the University Hilton in Charlotte, NC. This will be the second year they've had it at that site. It used to be at a much smaller Marriott hotel on the south side of town. Now, it's closer to UNC-Charlotte. Here's the website:
They're also combining it with DeepSouthCon 48 this year. So, I suspect it will be even larger. Parking is limited. And there's TONS of restaurants in the university area within walking distance. So, if you come, check in early. Grab a parking space. And never move your car again or you might not get your space back.
Hope to see you there,
--Neil

Dang Taig, I'm about 1.5 hrs from Charlotte as well ... what part of the state are you in?
I would be all about a Paizo presence at this con, even if it's limited to folks from the messageboards (though I would be overjoyed if folks from Paizo made it to this coast for a con).
Got to pencil in those dates for this upcoming year.

Oh, yeah. I remember--you live near Ashville, right? I live in the Triad, Kernersville specifically.
I'm definitely up for a Paizo messageboarder gathering there. If the school schedule fits, I'll bring my kids (who will be 13 and almost-16 by then).

I wish my son had as understanding a band director as you. He can miss one game during the season, and that's it, and he can't miss a competition, which usually conflicts with MACE.

Somebody needs to grab Todd Stewart out of Raleigh and get him down for ConCarolinas, too. They may be a few Paizo messageboarders out of SC or TN we could attract as well. So far, there's a strong RPGA presence for gaming at ConCarolinas...and there's independent gaming that probably matches that...but no PFS organized play as yet.

I'd love to come to PaizoCon finally. The first was simply not an option for me, and the second fell through due to conflicting prior committments on my part. The problem with this one would be where I end up for graduate school, and the need to save money for it. Course, if I end up in U of Washington Seattle, then I'd just take a jaunty stroll over to the land of PaizoCon! We'll see.

The season is growing close again, soon he would'nt be alone... Soon there would be "others" to play with. Until then he would have to wait. the childlike remanant sits upon a crait kicking its tiny legs as it begins to hum a tune to a ratty doll

By the time Paizocon rolls around, Link Light rail should go from the airport to downtown Seattle. From downtown there are a number of buses that go all over. Maybe if I am feeling generous I'll write up instructions/directions via public transit to the hotel/airport/etc.

That would be very helpful!
