Yeah, me too! I hope the first annual PaizoConUK is going great!
Well I think it went well. I certainly thoroughly enjoyed it - organising it, running games, meeting lots of great people.
First annual PaizoCon UK? You know, I think it might well be. What do other people think? Anybody want to post a review?
Any feedback, criticisms, suggestions for improvements, what went well then please let me know. And what would be a good date for the next one? ;-)

Daigle and Timitius, I'll say that the event was a complete success!
Regarding the Friday curry, Wintergreen (Dave) was expecting about 12 people, but roughly 30 turned up (although one or two taxies got lost on the way)!
I heard that 45 people turned up on the Saturday, and there was a goodly number also present today (Sunday).
The Pathfinder and other scenarios seemed to go well. I played a game of Arkham Horror with Charles Evans this afternoon and we- just- managed to prevent Azathoth from destroying the world. That game is very, very enjoyable.
It was fun meeting old faces and new ones.
Paizo donated eight (?) prizes for a raffle which was drawn this afternoon by Richard Pett. Three of the winners were Christine Schneider, Dave’s wife, and Rob Silk.
Kudos to all those who organised the event and the attendants. The event was relaxed and friendly, and I’m sure that next year’s will be even more successful!
On a different note, I wish Nic's mum a speedy recovery from her accident.
Damn, I was writing the reply then Dave beat me to it. Answering your question, it’d be fantastic if some Paizo representatives are there next year. I think such is more likely only if it’s held in off-peak times (but please, not early June, as that’s when I’ll be sitting some exams!) so that flights are cheaper; they’d also be able to bring some of the latest products then (eg. the then latest parts of the Kingmaker AP). They could also hold seminars, too!
On the latter note, James: Please assign part of Kingmaker to Richard Pett! :-)

Tried to call you earlier, but did not get through. Hope that the impromptu Sunday evening trip to Ladypool Road went more smoothly than the previous trip in terms of taxis.
Have emailed you.
Will provide more thought out impressions after some time.
Glad everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I would also like to add my vote of thanks to the team who made Paizocon UK happen.
It has been several years since I attended a Con (Gamesfair 94 I think?) , but I'm sure that I can't possibly have enjoyed them as much as this one!
I brought my son along to his first convention, and he was impressed by the standard of the GM's (thanks to tables 5,3,2,1 and 3 again) and also the friendliness of the players who made a couple of newbies feel very much at home.
The interraction between Jason and James' characters was talked about all the way home to Manchester - make sure you look after that parasol, James!! :)
We will definately be attending next year, and probably bringing the rest of our gaming group along for the ride too.
Andy

And yes, in the tradition of the "meet and eat", you ALWAYS get more attendees than you figured. When you say "curry", are you talking Indian food, or is this Brit slang for something else.
Cuz, I likes me a good Indian curry. Hmmmm, perhaps next year for PaizoCon......

It was a major success in my view.
Very compressed timescale, so there was a little burnout if you tried to play in all five games. It might be a better for next year (please be a next year) to have the slot 3 on Saturday evening be pure board games/social rather than squeezing five scenarios into the two days. But that aside, it was well organised and run and Dave and Sarah were very helpful when I was bugging them.
However, the weekend only schedule was a very good idea and I'd like to stick with that. Makes it much easier to get to. Need to get between slot food easier, though. I delayed my table's slot 3 as the in school bar didn't get my food to me for a long time after I'd ordered it.
I had a great time overall, meeting old comrades and new ones. As mentioned, the atmosphere was very friendly, so kudos to all the organisers, GMs and players.

With regard to food I believe that in theory it may have been possible to telephone an order for food through ten minutes beforehand to the Gosta Green (one of the two pubs within five minutes scurry of the convention) so as to have something ready and waiting. I'll have to double check that for next-year. :-?

Makes a mental note, expect 'death by fez' to place highly in the 'most embarrassing deaths of the convention' rankings.
Runners up for the wooden spoon award...
The 'friendly fire' incident, when I blew up the sewers. The only damage done to the party all game. "Hey, they'd been bigging themselves up, how much higher level they were. How was I to know not everyone gets Evasion?"
Nearly getting squashed by a giant cabbage, trying to complete someone else's mission, which I (player) knew had already been completed, but my PC did not, would have been a rather sad way to go.
Me and the monk (Eltanin?) both nearly being punched unconscious by a small child.

What can I say,
This was a brilliant weekend of excellent gaming, Dave thanks very much mate. The GMing was of a very high standard and enjoyable, thanks to Rob, Andrew and Dave who unfortunately had to GM me.
Also to the other players whom I sat with, Andy never have I seen negotiations with demons done so well, pity about the Taldorian soldiers though Old hags and crones tongue makes me shudder and thank god for endure elements cos there was no way I was taking my spangly new plate off no matter how hot it gets.
Much kudos to the whole thing, can't wait for the next one.
Cheers,
Les

Made it to the afternoon session, and I witnessed a PC death in the Styes....
Obituary:
Name of PC: Merisiel
Day Job: 'Pathfinder Iconic'
Cause of Death: Poison arrow trap, whilst chasing 'The Monkey' home to the lair of The Organ-grinder
Real Cause of Death: The twisted genius that is Richard Pett
<Cut>
Alas poor Merisiel, she died as she lived... obliviously, stupidly and spectacularly. At least Ezren couldn't taunt her about growing a second head any more, and I got to play a conveniently-hanging-around Amiri (who would probably have died too, from a building collapsing on her whilst she wildly attacked a huge fire elemental, if it hadn't been for Rich rolling a one at just the right time; for a save against a highly-unlikely-to-succeed dismissal attempt from the cleric).
And I hear that, whilst the adventure was never published, it may well become available at some point :).
Fantastic weekend, special thanks to Wintergreen and everyone else who helped with the organisation, all the players I had the honour of adventuring with and my wonderful GMs: Ted, Rich and Frenchwolf (twice). Oh and to Ben for writing a scenario that truly made me fear for my character's life :P.
I'd agree with Paul that I'd prefer to have something more social/light/drop-in-drop-out in slot 3. I'll freely admit I dropped out of slot 3 because I just can't hack 12 hours of nothing but D&D, especially after the rather intense Styes game; if there'd been some light board-games or other silly and not too taxing activities, I could definately have gone for that rather than just sneaking off to the pub :).
Oh, I can't remember who was asking for a link now, but Pete's aborted diary of my CotCT game can be found here.
Here's to next year!

The atmosphere and the way that everyone played was superb. It was a treat to see so many old friends again and to get people wanting to play at my table.
Although having a 13 year old McGee girl at my table made me feel old, especially when I can remember DMing her parents with her in a cot nearby.
Also it was a bonus that Richard Pett lead us through his Styes, the girallon-flesh golem was a touch unnerving but when you rarely get to play, you really want it to be special and it was. Thanks.
Lastly I want to thank Dave and Sarah and Rob (and any other organisers I may not have been aware of) because I took two friends who had never been to a Con and they are converts. You did good.
To Paizo itself, thank you the prizes, getting the Jackal's Price after the raffle was nice, but I would have liked the opportunity to meet and game with one or two more of you staffers too. Maybe next time.
Cheers

Thanks to the organisers, my GMs and my fellow players! I had a good couple of games on the Saturday (I only attended for Slots 1 & 2). My half orc druid Grelow Harnson and his mangy dog Barrow were pretty damn ineffective (I don't think I actually hit anything the entire two games) but I enjoyed playing the character.
In terms of suggestions, I would say still have the option for people to play a scenario in slot 3 as some people may only attend in time for the afternoon and / or evening slots on the Saturday and so they should have the opportunity to play.
Unfortunately I heard that one of the GMs wasn't up-to-scratch (luckily my GMs were) and so I wonder whether for next year those volunteering to GM may have to either be a known quantity (i.e. the organisers have previously witnessed his / her GMing abilities) or "try out" and possibly run a short encounter or even a scenario for the organisers.
Its never an easy thing to do, but if the event is to grow it needs quality GMs. This becomes even more important when we hit Season 1 and start using the Pathfinder RPG rules - a GM will need to show that they have learned the new systems (CMB & CMD) and have recognised the small tweaks and changes.
Overall though a good con it seems! Cheers!

Obituary:
Name of PC: Merisiel
Day Job: 'Pathfinder Iconic'
Cause of Death: Poison arrow trap, whilst chasing 'The Monkey' home to the lair of The Organ-grinder
Real Cause of Death: The twisted genius that is Richard PettDetails:
Alas, poor Merisiel.
Earlier in the adventure, whilst pursuing a two-headed villain, high amongst the rooftops of the Styes, she had failed a balance check whilst tumbling past an unusual variant of fire elemental onto a narrow wooden plank, and would have fallen to a messy end on the cobbles below, had it not been for a fly spell which was still active on her from earlier in the adventure.Having shortly after dispatched and then interrogated the deceased two headed villain by means of a speak with the dead spell, the PCs learned that they needed to pursue inquiries with a fellow known as 'The Organ-grinder'. Arriving at a market where he was believed to hang out, the PCs were spotted lurking suspiciously by The Organ-grinder's sinister monkey companion, and the villain and his monkey associate split.
Whilst the rest of the party took on The Organ-grinder, Merisiel pursued the monkey back to its master's home, and rather than await the arrival of the rest of the party, Merisiel rashly flung open the front door.
She took a critical hit from a [wyvern] poison arrow trap, failed the save, took nine constitution damage, and the DM then drew a 'bleed' result from the critical hits deck.
Reduced to negative hitpoints, and with her companions in arms still several rounds behind, Merisiel bled out on the cobbles, before her body was kicked into the waters of the Styes for the local marine life to feast upon by the flesh golem that emerged from The Organ-grinder's domicile.
There were only a few pieces left by the time that the rest of the party arrived...This looked a very fun adventure and it was a shame that it never saw print...
Huzzah!
Can the annals confirm that the Styes was responsible for the first ever PaizoCon UK death, and also go on to say that Merisel gets 10 out of 10 for entering the sprit of the town of decay by getting despatched in such a gruesomely spectacular way - bravo madam!

Cheers
Alas, i would have, but those pesky 'no pvp' and 'no evil characters' rules really crimped my style on that one ;)
But next time i'll make sure i have a black jack to hand :)
It was very nice to meet you. Thank you for the company at sunday breakfast.

I did mate and you ran the game very well despite what you may think, especially under the pressure of the TPK comments/chants :). Everyone on the table commented on the good time/enjoyment had so in all honesty what more can be asked from an adventure.
Also, yes I am that trip machine in a sense :), he is built to be in future a very mobile fighter with the idea being to tumble into position then not let anyone move away from him hence the use of trips. High AC and 5 AOO a round tripping will hopefully give a bit of battlefield control and give the ranged/mages some room.
Granted its yet to be seen if said machine continues to be viable under PF final but gladly hes a viable mobile front line whatever happens.
I also at least had the nice manners to leave the cliched spiked chain at home :) and just put it as an additional part of the armoury, the spear did very well throughout the weekend to be honest.

We are also obviously going to hold you to the Part 2 comments.
With more death chickens creating garden ornaments.
Well, i will certainly write a return to the flint tower as an event for next years paizo con up, or if people are more interested, an expedition to the tomb of rasma the sage.

I would certainly be happy for a follow-on tracking the story of Rasma the Sage. It would give a very good sense of continuity as we progress through the seasons.
As far as continuity throught the seasons, you'd have to pester paizo for that, but as i said, i will definately prepare something for next years paizo con UK that follows up on some of the loose ends in the story.

I should like to add my hearty thanks to Dave and the team (organisers & DMs) for pulling together an excellent PaizoCon UK 2009.
Fun mods and good fellow players too.
Things that worked for me, in no particular order, by way of feedback:
- Despite the time constraints of a convention, there was time for role-playing, yet still getting the mods finished.
- Aston University was a good venue – the main room and facilities worked well: air-con, bar close by with food, etc., ease of parking
- Marshalling of the tables before hand – no confusion of the usual table musters, yet we had some flexibility to move tables if needed
- Quality of the mods, especially Ben’s!
- Special Guests – managed to have, albeit brief, chats with all of them – very interesting and approachable people – glad they were there
- An hour’s gap between mods to gather thoughts / eat – this made 5 slots in a row quite tolerable for me – I wouldn’t need a board game break as has been suggested elsewhere
- Good, well prepared, entertaining, non rules focused DMs [I discovered that some of the DMs had eaten mods in order to DM them at PaizoCon - extra thanks]
- Players not arguing DM decisions
- Blessing of Paizo and Erik’s welcome note
- Organisation beforehand / usefulness of the website
- England saving the First Test
I would certainly consider attending a 2010 gathering.
I believe Septimus has a few words to say too - see below.
Cheers
Jason

Septimus would like to add that anyone thinking of messing with his spell book will invoke a whack across the head with his quarterstaff – a weapon of more potency than anything the fighters were wielding; he’ll apparently have you know.
He would also like to thank all the lackeys and minions that came with him to support him on his great quests for the Pathfinder Society, despite some surliness from one or two colonials; some of you may even be lucky enough to accompany him again.
It was, of course, a pleasure meeting the other Taldan nobles to whom he extends a warm welcome of a reunion at his club in Oppara or Absalom.

Ha! One lucky hit with his little stick and the wizard fancies himself a warrior, does he? By that standard, Wulf is a wizard because he once passed a Knowledge (Arcana) check.
Perhaps we should ask Grind whom the warriors are?

Oh, Paul, sorry I didn't properly say goodbye, I kind of lost you at the end there. :)
No problem. I kind of vanished as soon as my game was done so I could get home in reasonable time. It was good to meet up with you, Clare, Andy and Ted again. See you at the 2010 event (sorry, Dave, but you're committed now.)

Sounds like everybody had a great time! I wish we could have been there. Perhaps in the future. Many thanks to the organizers for getting this all set up and running so well. It was just this kind of initiative that got Paizocon US off the ground and got us involved. I can't promise anything for next year (since that is so, so far away), but I'd love to find a way for us to be more involved next go around.

Is very relieved Septimus forgot to mention his parasol otherwise I might have been required to open it in a very dark place...ie one where the sun does not shine..
Seriously though I had a great time...5 adventures.(thanks to Rob, Mark and Dave for making Golarion come alive)some truely cinematic moments..our cleric Bull rushing D'pont out of the ritual circle and bashing him up against a wall stands out..a few too many parasol jokes (but you have to take the rough with the smooth)and best off all I didn't die.though I did come close on more than one ocassion
Biggest Highlight?...completing the Third Riddle with only 4 characters in the party (Fighter,Paladin, Ranger, Monk)and only losing 5 strength points and a very few hp between us..Clinton's going to have to make them harder.
And winning a prize in the raffle was nice too.
Thanks to all the organisers and I'll be ready for next year...btw does any one know where or when there is any more official PFS games going on in the UK...so I can level up to 3rd?

Oh while i remember. Who ever it was who located the curry house, and i think it was charles or rob, can't rmember which at the momment. Thank you very much indeed.
Dave chose it; I simply double-checked the location the day before, and gave directions when our taxi driver got lost, after not being up to date on the fact that the balti had recently changed address... :)

I was there, with Othello Benson, who I now term a Utility Mage to prevent people expecting him to Fireball everything! I think he was pretty successful with his spells and the ladies (The Triplet Redheads will, no doubt, be mentioned extensively in the Chronicles).
The convention itself was fantastic too. Excellent DM's and players, especially the group I found myself in for most of it. Got into a pretty well oiled machine towards the end, which was helpful for Christine's game. I can't believe that's her first DMed game in English.
The discussions during both our curry nights (Yeah, five of us went on Sunday!) were very friendly, and I certainly learnt a thing or two. I think that's a good thing about a convention like this, everyone came into it with a lot of goodwill and really tried to be friendly. Also, it was small enough so that everyone could at least know each other by sight. Shame that more people couldn't match the person to the online persona though, but hey, next year I'll sure we can work something out.
Speaking of next year, I'll certainly plan to come, though that depends on where it fits in on the calendar. But as long as it's not the same weekend as Gencon UK, I'll try damn hard to get down there. Even if I have to walk!

Glad to have met you, at last.
Yes, Sunday night was good company.I didn't mind going back there; I certainly didn't need my arm twisting by 'The Mage with no Name'since I'd 'saved' a few pounds with my unexpected upgrade.
