Just received the contract so I will be sending off that and the deposit asap so it is official, 11th and 12th July 2009 at Aston Business School Conference Centre, Aston University in Birmingham.

Hurrah! On to the next stage of the campaign. When and where (if at all) do you want volunteers, helpers, suggestion-makers to meet online to discuss the planning, etc?*

If you do not have any venues of your own preference: *DM Tools (Paizo Chatroom) link*

I think having the discussion continue here on the boards is good advertising!

I've just had a look at the DM Tools Paizo Chatroom and it looks good for having a proper conversation so I think it will be useful in discussing things with volunteer helpers.
I'm intending to use the paizocon uk yahoo group I've created for communicating with people who have paid for the convention.

Well I have my PFS character done at long last...bog standard fighter and 1st level but at least I have one.

Any further word on payment details Wintergreen...it would be nice if we could pay by Paypal.

Excellent. My character is a bog standard fighter too (just got to 2nd level though).

I'm looking into payment methods but I'm afraid you probably won't be able to pay via Paypal as I believe there is a charge for having money paid into your account. I'm rather busy next week with non-gaming stuff but will have some more info out at the end of the week.

It increasingly doubtful that GenCon UK will run this year those in the know are not confirming one way or another

However as one of the founders involved in running Conception UK at Highcliffe in Jan/Feb each year and as a point of contact for both Indiecon and Consequences I need to tell you that UK Expo is at Birmingham in June from the 4th to the 7th if memory serves

If I can help in anyway please don't hesitate to contact me email is best and if Rob Silk is involved I'll do everything I can to help

Thanks John.

Yep, I've recruited Rob to run at this.
I've been asked by Kithran to run some Pathfinder at the Birmingham UK Expo in June and may also be helping with LIHR stuff if it is running there.
Again, thanks for the offer of help.

PAIZOCON UK! This is fantastic news! Well done Dave, brilliant work. I am one hundred and ten percent on board for DM'ing or whatever you need.

I have a couple of my regulars interested already and I know this is going to be a sell-out. I have a hunch we'll be needed those extra rooms.

Wouldn't it be great if we could get those two nice guys, Nick Logue and Richard Pett along to DM a game or two? Wow.

It's also a great opportunity for a local trader because the market is so focused. They can trot out all their Pathfinder stuff and know they'll be bang on target for sales.

Liberty's Edge

Hurray for John! I was counting on ya. Glad to hear the players didn't get to hang you in "Stay of Execution"?

Hurray for Andy Glenn, too! Counting on you, too. I still have Denn's alphabet book when you need it, to return to LIHR to use your woodie.

Wintergreen:
With regard to the proposed 9 AM (Saturday) start for scenarios, does that mean the doors open at 8:45 AM (or earlier) so that people will have some time to chat and mix beforehand?

If there is sufficient interest/income, how late can you leave it to book an additional room?

And do you have any means you're happy to post to contact you, or would you like me to ask the PostMonster General to forward my email address to you?

Edit:
(Possible subject for email/chatroom discussions.) Wayland's Forge (games store, central Birmingham) has a noticeboard for gamers to post information about groups/meetings/events in the Birmingham area; if it were okay with the owners, I could try to get some basic information/pleas for assistance up there, if nobody else in Birmingham has done so already.

This is great news as things starting to become formalized. Once you have confirmed secure ways to book you will have at least 2 of my group booking. I'm our groups Pathfinder G.M. for the Rise of the Runelords campaign and one of my group (Digitalmage) has already run Pathfinder Society scenarios at other cons. I'm sure some of my other players might be interested in attending too. Good job so far with getting this organized in a pretty short time lets hope it becomes a regular event.

I'm arranging for doors to be open for 8:30am (with organisers able to be in at 8am).

The latest we could leave booking an additional room would be four weeks.
I've set up paizoconuk@hotmail.com if people want to email me directly. (More details about booking, payment, rooms, etc at the end of this week.
I was thinking of contacting Wayland's Forge about this. Once I hear back from Paizo with permission to use the pathfinder society logo in advertising then I'll have something I can send out.

Francois! You have to come along. We can quest for Taldor once again! (And maybe have a curry or something later)

I wish I can. For the moment count me in. I may have to cancel later due to work (or lack of) issues and the fact I'm moving soon (cost).

I have noted the dates, I'm not clear yet, but if I understood everything, there is no formal registration yet ?

A few of my usual players may be joining this time as well, though not all have answered.

Will there be a post office box/mail address option for those who prefer to pay in advance by non-electronic means (cheque, postal order, etc)?

Edit:
I am not expecting an immediate answer to this one, since it seems to me the sort of information which might be answered 'at the end of the week'. :)

I have posted an inquiry over on the main PaizoCon thread, asking what happens if we want to use PFS symbols or the like on web-pages or promotional material, as I am not certain that a fan license would cover it given that entry fees must be charged.

With regard to promotional material or any artwork, if anyone has any ideas they want executed, I would like to recommend some consideration be given to possibly asking some of the (excellent) artists we have on these boards, such as Butterfrog, Lilith, Lynora, and The Eldritch Mr. Shiny, if they have any time spare in their busy schedules.

That thought had occurred to me too. I've sent an email to Josh asking about using the PFS symbols for PaizoCon UK and I'm waiting for a reply.

Update: Buses, etc in Birmingham
Today I checked the ‘outward’ (from the city centre) bus stop across the road from Aston University today, and discovered that West Midlands Travel by no means advised me of all the buses which stop there. Besides the 65 and 67, the 67A, 104, 104A, 105, 108, 110, 112, 114, 115, 116, 902, 904, 905, 914, and 915 all currently stop there. The bus stop is marked ‘Corporation Street, Aston University’, and perhaps thirty or forty yards from a pair of pedestrian crossings that make their way across the busy road to the University. Some of these buses depart the city centre from the same stops on Corporation Street that the 65 and 67 use, whilst others leave from Bull Street and are closer to the stations.
It is not very far on foot from the City Centre Corporation Street stops to Aston University; from those bus stops, just down the hill and across the roundabout of Dartmouth Circus, some of the dark brick buildings of Aston University can be seen rising (majestically?) behind the white clock tower of the West Midlands Fire Service building.

There is one picture for representing PaizoCon UK that I've been thinking of. The Paizo golem striding over an image of the UK. It's iconic, easy to draw and reproduce and, I think, would look rather striking.

I really like that idea.

Of some of the chatroom artists, Butterfrog has confirmed that he might be able to fit artwork requests for Paizocon UK into his schedule, but Lilith is very busy at present between her job, her werecabbage writing activities, and the fan magazine she is assembling/editing for the Seattle PaizoCon event.

Edit:
Any word yet from Josh on which logos, etc, we may be able to use on material?

Sort of BBC News weathermap 'looking from space at an angle' UK, 'typical British scene' UK, or some other concept UK?

Hmm. Further thought; would we want the '2009' in, or just PaizoCon UK (maybe text arched over the striding golem/framing the top half of the picture? - second thoughts not sure how much of a good idea doing this to text would be) and space underneath for adding the year; after all we may want to re-use a good image for future years.... :)

BBC News weathermap type UK image, yeah. Though the Paizo Golem drinking a cup of tea, playing some cricket or just transposed over the Union Flag would be fun too. :D

I think that's more one for convention t-shirts if anyone gets any organised/done. The moment I saw your 'tea' suggestion, I thought of a Paizo golem with a cup and saucer instead instead of that spark (and hands in a slightly different position, to hold it, of course :D ).

Sorry I haven't posted earlier. Real life has been a bit hectic.
Here is some more information on PaizoCon UK.

1. I am still waiting for official permission to use the name PaizoCon UK and any logos so please do not post anything on any other websites or create any logos. Word of mouth about this is fine but I don’t want to get in trouble with Paizo over this.
2. The venue is booked and deposit paid so there will definitely be a Pathfinder Society based convention on the 11th and 12th July at Aston University.
3. A website is in the process of being arranged but until then, official communication will be via these messageboards and the email address paizoconuk@hotmail.com.
4. If you are still interested in attending, contact me via paizoconuk@hotmail.com with your real world name, messageboards username, pathfinder society number, character class and level. I will then send you my postal address so that you can send a cheque for payment. At present, there is no electronic booking available. If you wish to be in the same group as some friends then please make a group booking.
5. The final date for purchasing a two day ticket will be 31st May. If numbers exceed 40 then I will have to look at booking an additional room at Aston University or limiting numbers. So the sooner you book, the better. Currently ticket prices are: For two days gaming = £23.50; For one day gaming = £12.
6. One day tickets will be available. On the door tickets will have to depend on the number of bookings.
7. Once you have made payment you will be invited to join the paizoconuk yahoo group where further information will be made available.
8. I’m still looking for GMs to volunteer. If you run 5 slots then you attend for free. Running 3 slots will give you one day free. Anything else we can come to an arrangement. GMs will also be invited to join the paizoconuk yahoo group.
9. Games will be arranged by tier so it is important that we have information on your character. I will make sure that there are tables for those new to Pathfinder Society but it is preferred that characters are generated beforehand. I will have pre-generated characters available too.
10. Accommodation will be available on Aston University campus in the student halls of residence. I will provide further information on this as soon as possible.

Thank you for the update Wintergreen. :)

Hi

Thanks for the info re cost of games, but what about accommodation? Uni was suggested, but how much, and how close is it to the venue?

Checked out train/coach to Aston Uni, not very good for travelling up each day....

Since (AFAIK) there's no GenconUK this year, looking into a gaming weekend away if it's not too expensive.

Cheers

I've made sure there is university accommodation available in the halls of residence which are on campus. So very close to the venue. I'm speaking with Aston Uni about how much they will cost. At present they are talking about £20 to £40 per night.

For those looking for something other than university halls as accomodation, there is a Premier Inn very close by, but they charge Premier Inn prices, which according to the current information on their website starts at £65 a night (or starts at £58 a night over the weekend).

Much communication upon the electronic aether with regard to organisation behind the scenes.... :)

Main thing to report is that we should be able to use the name PaizoCon UK.

The Exchange

We are currently working on inviting some Paizo contributors who are in the UK. Would people be more interested in coming along if they knew there were some guests in attendance?

[And I'd like to encourage anybody who wants to GM to volunteer. This should be a nice, friendly con where everybody wants to have fun playing Pathfinder so it should be perfect for a first time convention GM.]

The Exchange

I am trying to sort out a carload from Devon and if I come I'll DM Wintergreen. The others would all be newbies.

Let you know when (and if) it gets sorted. Guests are good but I'd come to meet friends, new and old.

Fantastic. The venue is all sorted so 'if you come, it will run!'

Would you be willing to run 5 slots? If so, let me know via paizoconuk[@]hotmail.com

At other cons, I've always enjoyed chatting to industry figures and blowing way too much money on both the stands from distributors that have turned up and from the car-loads of 2nd hand stuff that folks have brought along to sell.

I'm not sure whether trying to arrange that side of things as well as the gaming sessions would be over the top for the first PaizoCon UK though.

I do owe Mr Jacobs an apology beer at some point for suggesting they reflow the Bestiary PDF to put each monster on its own page for easy printing - apparently the thought made him want to eat broken glass :( So if any of the major Pazonians can make it that would be cool.

Dark Archive

I'm tentatively in. Money permitting, we have a babysitter for the Friday night, so I'll be coming down, staying over and spending most of Saturday gaming....

Would love to met some Guests, and would be willing to run a game, although I'd rather play, and as I say, I wont be able to confirm until probably about a week before.....
